  1. I personally would never fly without a reserve (and a well rehearsed routine of how to use it). I understand it is less necessary when learning and doing circuits at a low height, I never had one when doing my CP for paragliding. This importance has driven home through watching two friends use a reserve very successfully after a collision. Just my opinion (and I only have 14 hours / 26 flights)
  2. Hi bernoulli, we are staying not far from Red Wharf Bay so that sounds ideal. I'm aware of the flying restrictions of a Matz but I will be staying well clear and fancy just messing about up and down the coast. Many thanks for the tips Guys. Stuart
  3. Hi All, I'm off of holiday for a week to Anglesey, North Wales. I see there is some airspace to avoid but was thinking about the nice beaches in the North East for some flying. A week with the In-Laws so I hope to get some form of escape. Does anyone have some experience of flying there and hints on places to take off from (beach?) Cheers Stuart
  4. I'm happy to report that both pilots are okay. One had a nasty back injury but is back on his feet. The other twisted his ankle. They were flying the same way and at a good separation but while they were both enjoying the view, it looks like they were gradually converging. One reserve was thrown immediately and deployed the other was thrown too late (probably due to tangled lines everywhere). I don't know if the video footage will be available but I'm so grateful both guys are okay, and a stark reminder to look of for each other. Stu
  5. I've found the tips can stay in a bit but it never worries me and they always pop out before i leave the ground. I've found if I lay out straight the outside A risers bring up the outsides first and the wing can fold up. I always lay out in a big V now so the front A's take hold first.
  6. How accurate can GPS altitude be? What about flying out of cell network? I'll stick with my Garmin with barometric pressure and map (which I never need). The phone is for the tunes!
  7. I love iMovie, so easy to use and gives great results. Once you go Mac.....
  8. Mine came this morning too. The cable is not too strong so I will probably have to tape it or zip tie it to the HT lead. You Guys find the same? Is it okay to cut the wire down to an appropriate length? Cheers Stu
  9. Hello, I live in Perth and travel all round Scotland with work. Happy to catch you for a chat if you like. Stuart you can email me on "stuart at suth .net" if you like.
  10. Hi Michael, there are loads of posts about pros and cons of radio types in this forum. I too have my airband licence (and marine from a long long time ago) but I choose not to fly where I would need it. I live in Perth and I don't need to go near airfields or airspace that requires it. I have a 2m radio but not yet used it properly in the air. I am aware of all the legalities around all the radio types. I think it is personal preference really.
  11. Hi Alan, Ive only ever flown the Synthesis (on power) but I find it very easy to launch (once I'd got the hang of it). It does come up a lot easier on 0 trim. It does hang back a bit on full slow. I trim to 1 or 2 when there is some wind for a reverse. Cheers Stuart
  12. I format the card before every use, assuming you don't need anything left on the card. Do it on the Gopro and it is usually works great.
  13. that sounds like the business. They quote 80+ kg thrust, would be great to get some feedback about fuel economy etc
  14. Hi Tom, I've had the leaking gray paste too. I figured it was because I left the Parajet charger on for to long. I bought one of the Optimate chargers and have never had an issue again. You can just leave it on. I bought a generic YT4L-BS from a local scooter shop for about £20 and it works great. Stuart
  15. I thought the music through the adapter was fine - I couldn't notice a difference between that and a line in. I'm selling mine as I'm not fussed about taking calls when flying and it's just another ting to remember / charge! Ebay link if interested. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320832743534? ... 807wt_1396
  16. I use a mac book pro. Its not just because the hardware is good. I use iMovie and it is just a pleasure to make a movie with! Once you go Mac, you dont go back!
  17. Hi Alan, thanks for all the advice. I've now built it all up again. I used Carb cleaner (got a tiny splash in my eye and the pain told me it should do a bloody good job on the carb!). I used the paper gasket and rubber layer too - hopefully that will help things. On the other side it was using the paper gasket and the rubber layer too, the guide said use the Teflon see through one so I went with that. I'll run it up tomorrow and see what happens. I'll let you know! Thanks again Stuart
  18. Right Alan, I have a question. I've been following this set of steps. https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/docum ... =TECH00038 Section 5B mentions there are meant to be 2 gaskets but I only have one. See photo with it still in the carb. The other photo is what I have in the service pack. So, should I replace like for like (the middle one) or add in the very thin one at the top (I think it is a one way flap) as shown in the guide (link above). Many thanks. Stuart
  19. I can't believe he survived that. Get well soon Jeb
  20. I've had fogging before - I changed to the vented back and it has never happened again. Stu
  21. Thanks Alan, I have no idea what fulcrum height and pop off pressure is. But ask me next weekend and I hope to have a whole new carb knowledge! Or a new carb!
  22. Alan, found a UK supplier. http://www.kartingdirect.co.uk/product.php/1098/0 Cheers
  23. That sounds like a plan - thanks a lot for your time on this. I'll make that this weeks plan and it will be easy to assess if it helps.
  24. Hi Pete, I have been flying on neutral trim. My problem is the revs dont creep up as I squeeze the throttle, they almost jump up in steps. I don't have a Tiny Tach but they are significant jumps in excess of 1000rpm. Not all through the range but mainly where I want better control ie level flight. It is not really an issue high up as I accept Ill always be climbing or descending. My carb is leaking a bit of oil and I have some splattering around that area. Is it easy enough to take the carb apart and change seals / gasgets? Cheers Stuart
