Like said seems like you do have to travel to get a better deal over there, but do we take it your sorted and flying now ?, did you out source equipment or settle for ex trained gear ?

Hi Terry, i'm slightly younger than you at 53 but also do weigh similar at 92kgs, shape you beat me at as I've got an ongoing heart problem and currently on meds for a type of cancer, i was a bit premature and bought a paramotor over 2yrs ago and cheap wing , but thankfully in the UK its slightly different yes some like you to have your own equipment, but some will train you with theirs and like USA some expect you to buy from them. Several friends learnt a couple years back right as i had my heart problem, so yes it got shelved but i knew i would do it so kept all my gear, if you could hold of for a little on buying a paramotor, but i'd say get a used wing as ground handling is a big part of your training, and if you own a wing practice as much as possible with weather and lifestyle allowing, then when you do go back to your training hopefully you've learnt more of the basics, and also training should become cheaper and you should progress quicker thru the stages, plus also forget the running part you'll slowly get fitter as you progress, also my trainiing has said if i'm running i'm doing it wrong, he says all you should be doing is walking fast slightly supporting your Motor, if your in the right position the fan will push you along and you just support the weight until the wing and forward thrust kicks in and up you go. So look around as there's several schools over their and if you have to travel then so be it, it will be worth it in the end.
  3. Si or anyone else trainer or not having watched this now in slow mo, i think he's a very lucky man to of got to a safe height to deploy his chute, as its clear to see it only slipped off because he applied left brake, which in turn fractionally unloaded the right side and out it popped (almost out anyway). So my question is I've never been told which direction to place my carabiners in, but from a safety aspect i thought they are trying to pull outwards so open side in, and i have an older paramotor where carabiners are located in the breast straps. I have only been told to make sure clipped in pre check flight So correct or not ? Til watching this I've never thought about it Please tell me Also is there such a thing as a towing carabiner or do you just use higher tensile strength load rated ones.
  4. Bob in my experience i'd be surprised if it turns out to be pressure leak, sounds more like an electrical breakdown when warm. I know you did a cold compression check, but have you done it after warm when it won't restart ?
  5. Thanks Si thats an easy 1, But without inspecting Carabiner hard to determine if its operator error or equipment failure .
  6. AndyB find a bigger field with shorter grass but i know how you feel, i know most of my comments are very repetitive but i'm committed to getting most of it down, more so others especially newbies can see the route we take, and then learn that yes we too possibly took a similar route and learning curve. Yesterday was a good day for ground handling (8-13mph wind) so yes you guessed it i did , sounds repetitive and boring but i've convinced myself to train as much as possible, i want to be able to kite the wing in my sleep not yet dreamt it , but they say practice makes perfect so every opportunity i get i will take, extremely happy with my reverse training but i'm sure my trainer will point out my faults , so just waiting for more nil or low wind days to start forward training, i have set my self a realistic schedule and so far slightly ahead of it (in my eyes) . I know when i see chilly next he's talking about being able to wing walk thru cones, could be funny for those watching but we'll see. until next episode cya
  7. Si if you haven't ordered excellent weather i'm going to put sugar in your tank, as its not a 10 minute drive down the road for me plus working on Saturday, so i'm expecting lots of you ferka's flying as i need plenty to learn from
  8. Hi All, Anybody got 1 they do Not use anymore obviously cheaper the better as not 100% sure i'll use it, doesn't even need to be 100% perfect condition as its more of an experiment, i can be anal and tend to enjoy folding up my wing after flights, but my trainer swears by his so really need to try one just to see if i agree and see if i can get on with them Problem solved just need time now to see how i get on.
  9. 2. Horrible thought. It has been suggested to me that it might be the crankshaft seals. OK when cold and when running, but left for 20 mins and they go soft? Doesn't make sense to me as it runs so nicely when first started. I've seen it suggested on a forum that to test the seals one should pour 2 stroke mix straight into the engine and see if it leaks. There must be an easier way. Best way to test for crankcase leaks is remove carburetor and exhaust, make up blanking plates for holes then make an airline inlet easiest with an old plug, you need to pressurize them and brush over seals and mating surfaces with soapy water, and then you'll know if any leaks virtually immediately, and like previously said thats paramotors. Just curious have you done compression check ?, or pulled motor down and done measurement checks ? on piston + rings ? and condition of barrel ?
  10. Cas i gotta ask is the insurance reference sarcasm towards another previous post in the last few days
  11. Its not literally chasing the high tide water more of location identity and just a great flying weekend get together of like minded Paramotorists
  12. Si can you please confirm for me , i thought there was only a pilot flying limit and not an attending limit ?, as i was looking to just turn up for a chat to you and eveyone else and those beers you owe me , but as yet not put name down for said reason. so am i right or wrong ( misinformed as usual) as i'm never wrong
  13. Darius if you want more performance sharpen the port angles plus smooth the surfaces a little and mill the head down but it becomes borderline on starting, its just basic 2 stroke tuning.
  14. They have an internal decompression port, why wanting to fit a valve? read above you'll possibly get problems, plus if you haven't your port may need drilling thru to clean it out.
  15. Why not just remove the decompression valve you fitted and blank that off , lot easier than messing about with the cylinder sidewall
  16. That does not explain much did you reverse or forward launch ? and did you ground handle (kiting ) come on spill the beans, this is meant to be your training blog
  17. My Solo 210 never had a decomp valve but electric start only and NO problems starting at all. Have you checked coil gap ?
  18. it's a ball socket for a reason and applying sealant or compound might work for a short period of time, but my next step would be replace socket area at least or complete exhaust.
  19. You'll know how it goes before we will
  20. Dan i'm also a newbie and part way thru my training, but like advised above no need to buy equipment especially if your going with Si + Little Col, i know i have but would agree i was to keen also . Must admit paid sod all for a ground handling wing and now looking at newer reflex wings, and my Paramotor although older model was low hours and not a budget breaker, but many before me have learnt on exact same model, and thought for my 1st few flights i'd rather bash this than a more expensive newer one, but hindsight is a marvelous thing and now having talked to trainer and fellow pilots, i wish i'd gone for something like a Bulldog or Parajet as probably sturdier and parts possibly more readily available.(Other Makes Available). But having said that i was a welder fabricator so cage repairs or new stronger cage at a later time is no big problem. So be patient as there's plenty of equipment about new and used and listen to the wiser & experienced.
