  1. There is the Bailey hornet plus others about. Norbert used to fly a twin cylinder direct prop drive for many years, about 320cc and heavy but very reliable, trying to think of the make, JPX 320 perhaps?
  2. Bailey V5 is indeed 20hp and I don't mind the weight, you get used to it. I also have a moster based paramotor that I've done six flights on, there is quite a difference having that extra 5hp.
  3. It rather depends on if you wish to actually paraglide (BHPA) or just go directly to paramotoring. I trained for paramotoring without any previous paragliding experience and have nil desire to free fly. If you go down the BHPA route you have to learn to paraglide first in two stages (I believe) before you then progress to paramotoring. Cut out the middleman and go with the PMC.
  4. Tiny Tach's are all internal battery. They last for years and years.
  5. I don't believe it to be a problem. Always test your kill switch before you take off>
  6. I have had fun and games with an identical looking starter motor. Cleaned all the commutator as you have but it still stops in certain positions where it doesn't take any current and remains stationary. From the burning and lack of starting I would guess you do have a short. Sorry I don't know the make and model.
  7. That's interesting, I didn't know that Simon. @Ben Butler A lot of people have tried the license free radios and to be honest they aren't very good. They are on UHF at 446MHz btw. The problem with a lot if not all hand held radios is that the microphone sensitivity is designed for the radio to be held about 8-10 cm away, with a paramotor clattering away directly behind you that is very easily picked up. With a close miked headset pilots tend to shout a little and the resulting speech is often unintelligible. I have reduced the mic sensitivity on all the radios I use. The 446MHz radios are also in the hands of every Tom, Dick and Harry (read kids) and finding or keeping a free channel is nigh on impossible, as in reality there are only 8 channels.
  8. Very interesting concept. Yes do keep us posted.
  9. I thought I might be a bit low, you are in a better position to gauge it
  10. Judging by the rapid rate that the fly-ins fill up and that not everyone will go due to location or other commitments, I would hazard a guess at around 1000.
  11. I flew a Reaction 29 for 288 hours, starting at 30 hours experience. It is a very solid wing, with your sons PG experience I can't see any problem. It is slow by modern wings standard and needs a lot of wind for reverse inflation. I still have it as a spare wing, I might sell it.
  12. #borechasers I hope it's not dry grass chasers.
  13. I have asked around a lot and as soon as aircraft is mentioned it's a no.

When are you going to get the Partners Membership sorted Si?
  15. That's honest, accurate and a fantastic report.
  16. I have varifocal glasses for general use but specifically have bi-focals for driving and flying. Very well suited for distance vision looking out but equally suited when glancing down at the instruments. (Old codgers club)
  17. Here is the Free Line tube at a lot cheaper price https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Freeline-Racing-Fuel-Pipe-1m-x-6mm-I-D-Go-Kart-Karting-Race-Racing-/361297006174?hash=item541eface5e
  18. Sounds like wind gusting to me. Do you have a wind sock or streamer? I have a streamer with 3 metres of ribbon that shows gust and direction change very well. With A's and D's you need to move the D's away from the tip that is climbing, not just towards you. If the left tip is climbing move the D's smartly to the right and vice versa.
  19. Wing towards the wind? Do you mean the wind is towards the wing? If one tip is climbing then you need to pull the brake on that side.
  20. Great description of kiting, love it.
  21. That is fantastic. A really really good hack. Inner A line, let lines drop over risers then one last (obvious) twist, brilliant.
  22. Looks like the martians have landed. Really pleased it was a great day. Too foggy all day yesterday at my field, drat. Managed two flights this afternoon, YAY!
  23. Welcome to the world of PPG. I haven't flown one but the V King is slow in comparison to most PPG wings. If/when you find yourself flying with others you will get left behind and everyone will moan that you are too slow (humorously of course).
  24. It's basically patience. Hold the riser up above your head so you can see the lines going towards the wing. Hold the A, B, C risers down a little as necessary to see where each individual line is, then you should be able to see if some are twisted.
  25. With exposure to the line arrangement you do get used to the way they should lie. Tangles now take a maximum of 30 seconds to sort out. Whatever you do don't start disconnecting them.
