  1. Had an attack of the insane zombie cows/bulls licking my car in the field today. They also had a go at my paramotor and upper lines. I managed to use some water from my bottle to wash the lines. No damage as far as I can see. I can't find anything on the web about cow spit and paraglider lines. Should I be concerned? (Service due in November). Some of my launches look as if I've got mad cow disease, so I'm not bothered about that sort of thing. Richard PS - Managed a couple of nice flights today though, if a little bumpy and some wind shear.
  2. Clearly an uncertified wing at that point in time, on full trims and bar. I'd want my money back if my ENC wing did that to me! Lesson for all the newbies on wing choice and flying low? Hope the pilot fully recovers quickly. Richard
  3. Pal had a really bad accident recently, ended up in a coma for 2 weeks. He's well on the way to a full recovery now. His accident was nothing to do with acro, just a launch issue with a prototype wing he was test flying. Richard
  4. Carl, No ideas as yet. Always the same this time of year for most farmer's sites. My old site used to get the grass cut reasonably regularly. Wonder if Jock / Phil J have any suggestions? Tom, 400-600ft/min is normal on a good day in the UK. 200ft/min is a bit slow and tiring. 800-1200ft/min can be too much for some, but this is rare in the UK. A UK record PG XC day last w/e and mainly due to the strength of the thermals, due to the relatively cold air at this latitude for the time of year. Richard Richard
  5. Powick not cut. Took off from a gravel track next to my local Clent field..... not a beginner option ...... Glad there was a decent wind. Glad your machine will be ready soon. Will keep a watch for the weather next week, but will need a decent field to use. Richard
  6. You should've been up earlier. Had a bostin afternoon in the thermals. Bit rough just after 1pm, but great flying across 4 flights till 830pm. Engine off for 20+ minutes a number of times. Even drained the batteries in the GPS. Great stuff! Richard
  7. Could've been a small cravat. This has happened to me a couple of times and it needed a pump out on the brakes/stab line tweak to get the cravat out. Richard
  8. I use one of these motorcycle helmets for PG http://www.shark-evoline.com/English.html . Great versatility with visor, full/open face and built in sunglasses, but the noise attenuation isn't as good as my PPG helmet http://www.flycom.co.uk/flying_helmets.htm Richard
  9. Really is quite minor damage, but Carl wants his motor to look pristine (he wouldn't be happy with mine....). 3 minor welds (one needed doing before Sunday), one small bend, a bit of netting and a buff of the petrol tank will be all that's required. (oh, and a new spare prop) Can't see another flyable day this week so far, so some breathing space for the repairs. Richard
  10. Needed a strong breeze to beat the knee high grass. took 2.5 hours waiting for the right wind. Several changes of direction & strength. Can't fly from there again until it's cut. 1h24m fiesty conditions, lift from as low as 100ft. Couldn't get down a few times, engine off for a while. Wing moved around quite a bit. Got rained on! Severn still very high in places. Landing quite hard as hit massive sink, so needed to rest knee after that. Richard.
  11. Be careful Jock, the hill will be full of flyers desperate for a flight in the weak conditions, after such a long layoff. Richard.
  12. Same times as in my first post. see you there. Richard
  13. It's 12km away, so issues there. I won't be flying near them, it'll upset their thermals anyway. Carl are you going to Powick? Richard
  14. I'm game should anyone else be going? 5mph ENE, no rain. If others are going I'll be there from 1130 until 530 (ish), otherwise I'll stay local. Guessing it'll be a bit wet underfoot, but not flooded. Richard
  15. Apco beginner wings always lasted longer in schools due to their use of the Gelvenor cloth. Heavier than the Skytex, but more durable. Richard
  16. I wonder how much this hand strike and others recently, has anything to do with 'exposed' props on the newer machines? I was brought up on paramotors just after the deregulation in 96 and everyone had 'enclosed' props on the their machines (cage covered the prop completely) in those days (and now for me). I've fallen over a few times on my 'enclosed' version over the years without lines damaged or injury. I bet at least one of my falls would've been a lot more serious with an open prop. My backup kill switch is the choke. Richard
  17. Nice to see some sunny shots from altitude. 1st April was the last time I flew. Wettest UK April on record apparently and we're officially still in a drought! Richard
  18. Cracking shots, make the most of the good weather, my tortoise's lettuce's are ruined.....
  19. Don't forget this w/e in Scotland. There's going to be some massive PG XC's Saturday and Sunday:- http://rasp.inn.leedsmet.ac.uk/RASPtable.html Normalised surface sun, thermal updraft and thermal height maps all indicating a cracker! Expect a few 200km+ out and return scores, possibly 300km+. Richard
  20. I fly the Delta 30 under power at 140-145kg. A most excellent agile wing for efficiency/thermaling. You must test the Speedster before buying, it is quite a bit different to the Delta for feel in thermals, but faster and more stable on full trims/full bar. Richard
  21. Go for the larger wing if you're keen on thermaling. 55kph should be fine at the weight you stated. A larger wing is better for landing and taking off, lower revs/noise and better fuel efficiency. The larger Speedster wing also has a better EN test - 3 B's and 1 C, compared to the 28 size which has 4 B's and 2 C's. This may also be an important consideration if thermaling. Richard
  22. My engine was built in Germany with Italian heads, British exhaust and Swedish ignition. Has a French frame, French Harness, Japanese starter battery, Italian starter, Israeli reserve, Taiwan rev counter, Korean CHT guage, British/American GPS, German Vario, French mailons, British Helmet, American headset, Japanese radio, British flying suit, French gloves, Italian boots, Thailand prop, French/British/German/Malaysian Wing. Richard
  23. I would've expected more speed from a glider with that tiny surface area, at that weight. Although they do say it's trimmed for competition acro turns, rather than flat out running. An uncertified glider though - will it be allowed to compete 'normal' PPG championships? Thought the very sad debacle at the Piedrahita PG Worlds last year meant that the FAI (CIVL) has banned the use of non certified gliders in comps, at least for the time being? Richard
  24. Tom, Our Konig engine group is here:- http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SC430-SD570/ Lots of info and reading, if you're keen. There are a few boys on there from close to your area of the world. cheers, Richard
  25. OK, We were lucky with the weather this time Tom, but 9 times out of 10 your weather will be better than ours! Richard
