  1. I'm from the PG community and still use an ENC Ozone Delta PG wing under power when thermic conditions prevail for some switched off engine fun. The Roadster 2 ENB is also in the 'quiver rack' if I just want to blast around instead. Richard
  2. I've always been confusing these terms for more than 20 years. A picture helps. Richard
  3. Not sure it's as easy to calculate as first thought. G/R is crucial at the chosen wing/brake/trimmer setting. (Say) 130kg all up weight and realistic trim off hands off glide of 7:1 then you'll need 18.5kg of thrust to stay level. What revs/prop combo will give you 18.5kg of thrust (and therefore hp/kWh)? Considerable differences expected given which wing & size, size of cage, flying position, prop efficiency, etc. Richard
  4. We trained with Dave Bullard's outfit in 1996 on the Epsilon 1 (and later with the Epsilon 2). Never had any issues with either under power, albeit a slow wing, but never flew the 3rd version. E1&2 had super easy launching. From memory, I think the E1 was the wing which needed it's lines stretching occasionally. Make sure it's fully serviced/tested before flying. Richard
  5. Done before, but neat looking this time. Glad the noise issues have been solved ........ Richard
  6. Such a shame. Especially with Mick's death in February/March this year. My 21 years of of flying these chair-o-planes have seen lots of reports of unnecessary UK deaths, either via acro manoeuvres, or not fully trained. Perhaps we should start an active campaign to save all current and future flappers? RIP, so sad. Richard
  7. Good news indeed Alan. I spent a whole week traversing farms in my vicinity before I found a new home 4 years ago. My old farmer had been willing to let me use his land for 16 years until he went fully agricultural. Now I pay a little for exclusive private use of this new farm, but the benefit is I get all of the 28 allowable flying days each year. good work! Richard.
  8. Great news about multi aircraft - watch out for the 28 day ruling. From memory the Sluka is pretty similar to the Thruster. With 2 up, the Thruster would easily do 100kph on the flat and level. You'll be doing very well to keep up with it on powered parachute technology. Richard.
  9. That's the result of having my own private local farm land launch sites - too convenient when compared to the alternative M5 south road work traffic jams this year. I have flown down past Worcester a few times this year (mainly evenings), but seen no one in the air for ages. Catch you soon. (I will fly weekends over the winter when weather allows). Richard.
  10. Great news Jock. Just rebuilt my Konig sc430 again following a blown head cap on cyl 3 causing me to landout at a local Rugby ground last month. I've managed to stay up on 2 cyls before on old floaty wings, but no chance on these modern quickies. Richard
  11. Don't think the Force 2 has any independent recovery test certification. Not suggesting that had anything to do with this particular issue, but worth considering when flying. There was a famous Mac stall on a beach nearly landing on a dog which may have similarities: Glad no serious injuries Richard
  12. Any issues the rest of us should know about? I've flown around that area since deregulation in 96. I think there's a small PM group who fly from Churchill which is nearby. There have been a few reports of low flying in Stourbridge in the past, but never been able to identify the flyer(s). Richard
  13. Wow, Swyre hill brings back some memories. Ringstead next! Careful though, it needs a 1km glide to the cliffs from launch on the NT property. Would be good to know if the R2 can get to the cliffs. Another 15 hours experience should be enough before tackling that site - can also be very rough getting to the cliffs in thermic air. I have a couple of old vids of Ringstead on my YT channel, but on a PG. Richard
  14. Ben, remember the R2 is also not EN certified for accelerated fight. Be careful, especially on a day in the UK like today (Saturday). It's likely to be quite windy, thermic and rough in the air. A great day for the PG comp pilots chasing records, but not for low airtimers. Richard.
  15. Remember to keep the Ozone recommended EN trim setting for free flight. Anything other than this will mean the glider is uncertified. It doesn't mean the thing will fall out of the air, just that departures from normal fight (collapses) are not tested for speed of recovery, etc. Just education for those with very limited hours in the air, or very low experience of free flying (especially in thermic air). Richard
  16. Bit of education for those with very limited hours in the air or very low experience of a cross section of wings:- http://www.xcmag.com/2016/04/go-further ... ness-help/ Can't find an independent comparative for a paramotor cage yet. Richard
  17. My 2011 mid spec ENC PG wing with a paramotor on my back will glide at about 7.5:1. The 2014 designed R2 ENB PPG wing doesn't do better than 7:1 according to my 96 Garmin glide computer and square pattern flight checks. Richard
  18. https://www.paramotorclub.org/forum/vie ... 30&p=70363 He's a member here. Definitely worth a chat. Richard
  19. R2 is fine for ridge soaring, but it's not particularly good at thermal coring (tends to lean in too much on trim, (not lift sensitive enough), needing at lot of outside braking) nor downwind glide chases. I reckon it's somewhere between 5 to 10 glide points behind an equivalent ENB PG wing at best glide trim setting. R2 satisfies the speed and stability requirements much better than a PG wing. Richard
  20. Nick is a good lad. Fledgling business, but growing fast. Known him for 2 years. Nothing bad to say in my experience. Richard.
  21. There's a bland review of the R2 in the latest free aero mag. Nothing to enlighten anyone except a statement that the top speed is in excess of 53kph. Now, it's a free mag so not too much criticism is justified, but I get average top speeds over 60kph. Perhaps not 63kph on the 28 at 145kg, as I was thinking it could be a typo. Richard.

  23. Forget the heated gloves. Eat something 15 mins before launch. Invest in a Blazewear heated gillet under an Ozee millennium suit. I was 'toastie' all afternoon today. Richard.
  24. Extra weight or smaller wing won't affect glide at our low speeds, at least not measurably (Reynolds etc.). Just speed is increased in flight, along with take off and landing speeds. Sink rate increases only due to the extra speed along the same glide angle. Richard
