  1. Bill, If you could do me one favor. I would love to know, with everything on ready to fly zero gas what it weighs just post it here if you get the time. The wait is going to kill you! Have you ordered some nerve p i l ls lol cheers!
  2. Small correction French/British/German/Vietnam Wing.
  3. Too funny Dell SchanzeSchanze loves the 2nd amendment and he loves gunsSchanze once had an employee caught stealing 10 k work of computer equipment. Schanze responded to the incident saying “when you are making 100 k a day its a little hard to notice when someone steals 10k worth of equipment. Schanze is a return L.D.S missionary and a devout Mormon Understood at a very young age that the words “Totally Awesome” have a certain power over Utahns in making purchase decisions. Former owner of Totally Awesome Computers and Totally Awesome Guns and Range “Super Dell” opened many locations of his computer shops before his fast driving and gun slinging antics got him in trouble. He was chased down by angry neighbors for speeding in their cul-de-sac. The neighbors caught up with Dell and he pulled his 45 on them, or maybe it was a 37. Dell was recently cited for flying his motored paraglide too close to the freeway. Schanze blames the demise of his business on the unfair media coverage he received. Come on Utah Stories Dell and we will give you the last word.
  4. Last flight here in Brazil I found myself 500m or so up and enjoying the view of the coast. I'm finding this view seems to be enjoyed by almost every pilot of small aircraft. During this flight I found myself relatively close to a small 3seater of some sort. This is not the first time this has happen. I think its normal for these small planes to take people out and enjoy the view. Most times I question how much attention is being payed to whats in front/around them. Anyways this got me thinking is there a nice small alert system out there that would watch out for small aircraft and alert me if one is coming into range. to my surprise I found this. I don't really like the price.... http://www.zaon.aero/content/view/2/41/ Digital range, scalable from 5NM to 1NM Relative altitude, scalable from ±5000 ft to ±500 ft, with ascending/descending indicator Menu-driven interface A built-in altimeter provides the highest, real-time accuracy available Displays the local squawk code and altitude Audio alerts for threats and advisories Installation kits are available Super-bright red LED display is easily read, even in direct sunlight, and can be dimmed for night use Indestructible polycarbonate semi-translucent housing ensures cooler operating temperatures on the glare shield, even in direct sunlight (no burning your hands as with metal enclosures) Batteries (with 8+ hours of use) -Tough as nails
  5. Here's a short video of a place we fly about an hour north of my place. Its a nice place to rip around [youtubevideo] [/youtubevideo]
  6. Have you guys interested in the speedster looked at the Cert? Here is the two glider I own First the Nuc Nuc 29 5b"s Speed in straight flight B Behaviour in a steeply banked turn B Symmetric front collapse B Recovery from a developed full stall B Big ears B Control movement C Asymmetric collapse C B-line stall C Second the Speedster Speedster 26 2 b's Behaviour in a steeply banked turn B Speed in straight flight B 3 c's High angle of attack recovery C Asymmetric collapse C Big ears in accelerated flight C Take away Big ears in accelerated flight, man how close in the speedster to a over all B? It has a sea of A's
  7. Mother nature she can be a !@#$% lol Sounds like you have the same luck as me!
  8. Very true, obviously the amount of mishaps can be greatly reduced if a lot of time is spent ground handling with a ground handling harness and with a paramotor not running (maybe with prop removed). The average Paramotor pilot seems to spend a lot less time practising these skills than paraglider pilots. I can think of two reasons for this; 1. It is hard work practising with a motor on your back. 2. Paraglider pilots have a lot more opportunities when they are waiting on the hill for the wind to increase or decrease or change direction. I agree and dissagree I agree 100% ground handling would reduce most of these misshapes. I remember when I was learning we had a nice hill and the teacher would have the students (after you where comfortable of course) play a little game if you wished. The game was glider fights. Now the hill was cut grass, soft and the wind was perfect. I have not seen another place like this to train. In the game you launched the glider got it stable then tried to take the wind from the other or collapse his tips until they lost control. This game help us develop some great glider skills on the ground and took some of boardem out of learning to ground handle. He was always there to add a hand and grab the right line to make the loss of control without pain until you learned how to grab the right line. I disagree that more paraglider guys have better skills. I see so many people in free flight that run off the hill hoping the glider is over their head. I think paragliding is worse and demands you have these skills. It's strange your right they could practice but they never do. I still grab a glider and mess around on the ground, its fun and burns off some un-needed beer fat. Its a win win.
  9. Ah, ok. Yes, I should have mine in a few weeks. I will post a review for sure. I must say I was out for a flight this weekend in some nasty air. On the landing approach trim on "0" I was getting bounced around so bad I could barely keep the glider going straight. Wind tips on the Nuc where coming in and out like a hooker through a hotel door. But the Nuc moved through this air like no body's business. The guys on the ground where amazed at the stability of the Nuc in this air. I wanted to let the trims out and run through this air again but didn't have the balls lol. Once was enough to make areas of my body go tight! I hope the Speedster has this type of stability. I'll let you know lol I also hope to get it up to the mountains for a free flight run too.
  10. Let me know how your test goes. I'm really interested. T
  11. Did you read the thread I posted? Have a look. Nuc / speedster You are a little more them me (I'm 80k naked 115, heavy). And depends what your looking for. I`m going top end for motor and mid for free flight. I have a 29m nuc for XC with motor. I should get mine in 2 weeks or so. It`s in Canada now... Just need to get it carried to Brazil. Sounds like the 28 would be perfect for you. Also there is another good thread "Ozone Speedster" great info in there. T
  12. Alan I would love to help you out! everyone needs to fly!!!!! lol I have had six weeks of nothing but sun and rising air but like all things my little rain of terror is about to end. I hope to get a fly off in the morning but then "rain" will be the key word http://www.windguru.cz/int/index.php?go ... &sc=122062 looks like a week of it! as that say in Brazil "Porra" I made another video of this place I love to fly, really nice beach. I'm going to add some music and post. If you guys ever find yourself in Brasil I have an extra room and one hour north world class free flying same to the south. Then in the middle I have 100 beaches to exploit lol I get lonely flying solo..... Cheers... Time for beer! T
  13. You know what there is a ton of merit to the comment "itch to fly" the need to fill the itch get's allot of people in trouble. What I mean is driving all the way to the mountain some times climbing only to find the wrong conditions once there. You really need the right set of conditions to have a good free flight. Also you need to understand what going on up there and what might happen in the next few hours. Sometimes (allot of times) the itch overcomes true abilities and safety. People take off for a free flight when they should not For me motor'ing opens up so much more flying time and removes a ton of variable weather conditions i would have to factor in. Great example. I have a family lunch at 1pm Sat. No possible way go fly. We will have cloud cover this weekend with south in the mountains. So they will not be possible to fly, but people will go. However we have 2-5kns south hitting the beach. Bingo off to the beach I go for 7am to catch 3-4h of flying
  14. I don't see the issue either. It's like buying GSXR 750 for your first bike. I only goes as fast as you twist the throttle. But if you buy a XL500 to learn then really love to bike you end up selling the 500 to buy the 750 in less then one year and always lose money So..... easy with the finger lol enjoy! cheers T
  15. You need to reverse your train of thought "height is you friend" Like stated it gives you time to sort it out or panic and throw the chute heheheh. No word of a lie my instructor always said "your never dead until you hit the ground". He loved this saying. Ridge soaring is normally done in the smooth sea air or so people want to believe, but it only takes a hot day and a little nasty bubble to send your glider for a loop. people get comfortable with their sites and forget this. I'm one of them I remember at our old site scratching so hard to say up my harness was inches above the trees. Or you start wing overs 150 - 200 meters from the ground... But I did start paragliding first like you and moved to paramotor. Well I still do both tell you the truth. It's just so much easier to pack the wife and little one and head to the beach. If there is wind I kitesurf, no wind motor. Not to many wife's like to sit at the top of a mountain and wait for you to come down while they do nothing. Beach fills that nothing void. Motor gives you the ability of not using thermals to stay up. This in turn (in my view) lowers the chance of you getting "wacked" and maybe its wacked at low altitude. I personally have had a ton of collapses taking off in free flight but it was mainly our location and the way the thermals rolled up the hill. We never stayed low level there. Let face it thermals are unstable air by definition. But wonderful
  16. I was right they re-designed the risers All new trim system for speed increase with no deformation and no reflex loss: Not only is the profile entirely new – the Speedster’s riser system has been totally redesigned to maximise speed and efficiency in paramotor flight. The amount of reflex in the Speedster’s profile is calculated to react at any speed, and any angle of attack. This new trimmer system works by changing the wing’s angle of attack without any deformation in the sail. When other PPG wings are trimmed out, the trailing edge is deformed. Other designers claim this is “increasing the reflex”. However, the real result is not a real speed increase, only a marginal increase in the reflex with bad deformation of the sail. This translates into poor sink rates (needing more power/fuel) and general inefficiency. Our trimmer system (which works exactly like the accelerator) increases speed with only a small input, while maintaining high collapse resistance and very good performance.
  17. Has anyone seen these? http://www.paratour.com/content/ultra130.php My god it looks like a Miniplane with 130lbs worth of thrust. It looks like it has the ABM type weight shift too now . Here is the review from foot flyer http://footflyer.com/Equipment/Paramoto ... tra130.htm Anyone looking for a motor to pack down and travel yet wants some power this would be the ticket.
  18. Is that a beer can in the lower left hand side of the harness?
  19. lol I looked at the weather balloon readings and there was a nice 150km/h jet stream at 35k going your way but it was the -65 that got me. I can only get so much rum on the mini to keep me warm! In all seriousness great to see you guys got out and had some fun, and kudos to you it take allot to put things together for everyone! Cheers T
  20. Do you find yourself looking out the window watching the sky, trees, birds, water lol. How many times did you wake up flying? lol welcome
  21. you are flying a 29.70m wing (flat area) Projected Area - The area of the planform of a paraglider as the paraglider is in flight, or inflated, measured in square meters (m2). This is generally not used as a size reference for pilots but important Flat Area - The planform of a paraglider as it is lied out flat on the ground. Measured in square meters (m2). This is the general reference used for pilots Hope this helps.
  22. Luke, thanks for the note (nice read) Well I just got my tracking number so the 26m Speedster is on the way. The first thing I will do is take it to the mountains for some free flight. I was there this weekend and wish I had it. I think I'm going to keep the Nuc 29m and the Speed 26m. I think they will make a nice quiver. I have a little park (I like to call it a park) beside the sea and it has a bunch of dead trees that make a great slalom course. So I'll keep the 26m for the mountains and the park. The Nuc for falling a sleep doing XC down the coast I know a few of you guys have the speed, how is it in the thermals for free flight. Anyone try? I seen some vids on free flgiht but looked like ridge soaring mostly. T
