  1. Look's like the rain here in Brasil has stopped and a good weekend for flying is coming might even get a long haul PPG trip up the coast! Plan 1. need to get some fuel 2. stay out of the beer 3. connect the ground on the new digit throttle control 4. stay out of the beer 5. charge all the "fred's" (F'n ridiculous electronic devices) 6. stay out of the beer and away from people offering beer It's been a shit week at work and a nice weekend for flying is here cheers to all, lets see some pictures Monday! Tom
  2. Once you get a glimpse of heaven its a constant fight to see it again
  3. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Touching-Cloudb ... 983&sr=1-1 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Art-Paragliding ... 827&sr=1-1 If you know noting about weather you need to learn about it. I think its extremely important. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Understanding-F ... =pd_cp_b_3 Thats the video I was thinking of "Risk and Reward" its light and easy to watch.
  4. I agree with you about the "Either way its a pain setting them up especially when you want a quick getaway" Here is what I'm working on. 1. I have the optime3 (plain no radio) 2. I just found this place and ordered a pair of these baby's http://www.iasuslogistics.com/ The IASUS XSound 2 Helmet Speaker system is a superior sound experience delivered directly to your helmet, featuring outstanding, bass-enhanced audio and a slim, sturdy profile. I'm going to mount them into the ear muffs leaving me a simple 3.5 jack to plug in for flight. But if you wanted to take this further you could add a Throat Mic add PTT and have a really nice setup! next on mine I'm going to add a good BT (still shopping) but found this ti be the best so far http://uclearstore.com/products/
  5. Congrats! I just seen the pic's of your flight! Well...... what did you think? hate it eh? Did beer taste better after the flight? Me and Allen have come to the realization that beer taste 100% better after flying. Cheers, Tom
  6. I have the same Peltor optime III (no radio) these with the silicon buds work great. I also have the microavionics head set with bluetooth & radio and don't use it. I'm a little pissed with the bluetooth. When I connect it without the microavionics connector the sound is mono. What I mean is if I connect the iphone to the bluetooth and then connect a standand set up buds it goes to mono sound. anyone else have this problem? I wonder if its mono on the microavionics too and just being sent to both ear muffs. Pissed what a waste. Also buy the time I put all the kit (microavionics) on my helmet it was too much stuff if I'm not using the radio. We hardly ever use the radio here. So I put the standard Peltor III back on with not radio. Nigel what ear muffs are you using. The buds fit under the peltors no issue.
  7. 174 -> 143 congrats! I have a 29 Nuc and is it a fast wing that's for sure. I'm realizing now that I barley hit the weight range. I fly in Brazil and its generally hot so I fly in shorts. All up I'm about 110k max So I'm light on the glider. I really should have got a 27m. Anyone want to trade a 27 for a 29? Anyway being light the 26m reflex gliders at take-off trim after about 10min of flying beside me can just pass. But if we go full trim I will land and wait for them I will test but I'd be surprised if the speedster is faster. Even issues 26 of paramotor mag stated its not actually that fast. I'm going to test both with vario and see. It will not be even for the nuc as its a 29 ves 26m but it will be interesting to see min max of both. T
  8. These are what I have But before you buy anything buy the silicone ear buds first. Grab any pair of ear buds around the house and see if you like the feel of the silicone. I use these in the water when kitesurfing and they stay in quite nice so they stick really nice for paramotoring. Try to get some good quality ones I have a med ear and use the large ones once its in "its in" lol also cancels some noise the buds have to be "in ear" not the ipod types below I paid $35-$50 for the jvc's. They have some nice base. I like the buds with a little base. So add the cancellation of the ear muffs and in-ear buds and its a concert up there. I bought a pair of noise canceling ear buds but have not tried them yet I hope this helps cheers T
  9. I don't have mine yet. Well I do but its in canada and I'm in Brasil! I have the 29m Nuc and a 26m speedster. I should get the speedster in the next 2-3weeks. I'll post my thoughts once I get the speedster to Brasil. I have both my parachutes repacked and ready for some testing lol. T
  10. I will never forget my first tow. I remember hooking up, my hart pounding. The teacher took the slack out of the cable and asked if I was ready. after swallowing my hart once again I managed to say "lets go". The cable went tight and off I went. after I was 100m in the air I remember looking down and thinking "fuck me now what" Second flight I found a thermal. the teacher asked if I was ok on the radio to fly a little this time I managed "hell yea". Straight to cloud base I went on my second flight. I can tell you this when I looked down that was the second "fuck me now what" I can not describe the view and feeling at cloud base. You almost feel a little closer to god. Cheers T
  11. Welcome!!!! lol I Never fly without it. I normally have it low or off for take off then once in the air its concert time! I even kitesurf with tunes, I really hate to kite without tunes now. I was going to get a set of those bose noise canceling herdphones but honest its to much money. I have a really nice set of JVC's I put under the normal ear muffs and voila. I've tried just about everything even bluetooth but good headphones under the muffs is the best. One tip i can give you is buy clear silicone for you buds they stick in the ear and dont slide out when you sweat http://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Silic ... B004XFRLRI I started using these for kitesurfing and found they work the best for everything even running. I see Sennheiser has made their CX 680 water prof now. This is a nice set of buds for sports. Cheers T
  12. Oh they are a blast to fly its the "super man" feeling. you just need to live in the right location.
  13. I agree finding someone that has done both will be hard. However as for safety they both have their pros and cons. Is one safer then the other....... not sure but I don't think so. As for flying with convenience a paragliding wins hands down Hang Gliding 1. Is normally done in groups 2. Need a good size truck with rack for glider 3. If your good you can assemble a glider in 45min 4. landing you need another 45min and you need to carry all your parts to truck once you retrieve it. This is where the group comes in. One truck to pick up all the out landings. 5. No such thing as a quick flight 6. location needs to support a HG take off 7. Glide on a HG is great 8. Handles turbulence well 9. Good in high winds I think you can work through these point verse a paraglider or paramotor The paragliders are really mover versatile and easy to work with. Then paramotors make it even better in two fronts 1. Don't need a mountain or to fly in turbulent air (thermals) if you don't want 2. Fly from really anywhere that has some open space. You can also fly and with no wind
  14. Great video's! I'm just having a hard time understanding the music! keep em coming. Cheers T
  15. You have the carbon on? Maybe the wood would be better for a bit? just worried if you have another mishap (not that its going to happen) the carbon is a ton more $ unless your not worried then no issue Shit looks great! like nothing happen, amazing!
  16. love the video! Its nice you guys can fly over stuff like the loading docks. Man if i did that here in Brasil I would get killed from the heat coming off the concrete. Sometimes I miss the colder air! T
  17. In the video after watching numerous times you can see the wing twisting back and forth. My guess just some turbulence. Make things go tight after the lift off?
  18. Try again in normal air Are you weight shift motor? If the wind was that different at 100feet there might have been some "wind sheer" thus causing some turbulence. In this type of air as the wing adjust for the differences it can feel like the motor is twisting but in reality the wing is causing this sensation. I get this quite a bit in some of the locations here (on less there perfect days to fly during rainy season). E.g 1. Left side of the wing has a lower pressure type air then the right. 2. The lower pressure will allow that side of the risers to drop causing the motor to sightly turn to the left Does that make sense.... anyone else, correct me if I'm wrong Makes for interesting landings or at least the approach! T
  19. Agreed, you have some good advice here. There is some videos you can get cheep that help you start to understand things as you save money etc. I forget the names. Take your time, this sport can cause you to get over excited and make spot purchases. I would also advice you talk to allot of pilots. Try to understand what they like dislike etc. The sales guy will sell you everything he is selling.... and it's the best! The best buyer is an educated buyer. Take the time read, read and learn as much as you can. The instructor will help allot. However that being said I'm a little cautions of the instructor that also sells equipment I find you always learn from them then ironically end up flying everything they sell (this can be good and bad). If you can attend a fly-in too that would be great! This forum has a tom of info. The problem is you don't yet know what you like.... Also stay away from u-turn USA and the owner. Crack job at best lol Hope this helps. You will love the sport if you love to fly. Oh two more things if your married I hope your wife is understanding, you are about to pick up some habits most refer to as strange. Also you will never be able to explain to them the feeling of hanging under a cloud no matter how much you try! cheers T
  20. Nice! You made be remember one of my face plants. We have a nice place to take off at one of the beaches here but this day the school was taking the whole spot up. So I thought no issue me and another two pilots headed to the long grass to figure out a way to take off. We had a little wind but the grass 5 meters in front was at least waist high. I was the first to go. The mistake I made was not walking the take off and checking for things to mess with my feet. So the guys held the front up, I start the take off and just as everything was going good a log just in the front of the weeds took my feet out. I almost got everything sorted as I exited the weeds but all I did was slow down just before I did a graceful face plant in the sand for whole school to see. Man I lost a ton of pride that day. Make things even worse the teacher had told the school to watch the forward launch lol.
  21. Darrel, your to do the roll in the hay with the wife at home not the motor! Glad your ok with nothing more then hurt pride! looks like a bit of work to fix the motor up, you do good work! We've all been there not to worry. Nothing a cold beer will not fix! cheers T
  22. Had to do some conversion 400-600/min is 6.7-10ft/sec 2-3 meters/sec Yea 3 meters per second is a nice ride! 13-20ft/sec = 4-6meters per second are great for free flight. I have not hit these yet with the motor. Is there much difference having a motor on? Cant wait to try. I'm just a little cautious right now here. During the winter we get the rain then the next day it's 30deg and really quite unstable to head inland. I was talking to a couple of the really good pilots here that where in the comp to the north in Brasil this summer they told me they both hit 10/11meter per second in the comp. Can you imagine? Man I was in an 6-7meter/per second thermal in Australia a few years back and never really have any craving to do that again. I cannot imagine 10 or 11 for the matter. A ten is almost 2000 feet per min. Man that would be a crazy ride! You would be pinned in the harness for sure! crazy!
  23. Have a look at the last video. I just tie a typical shoelace knot repetitively and it works well. I hate to cut any line.
