  1. How are you guys Hey I need some Miniplane parts. I'm trying to get Miniplane US to ship to my parents place in Brantford Canada. Once there they will ship them to Brazil. If I can not get Miniplane US to ship the parts is there anyone on here from Canada or US that is willing to buy the parts for me and ship them? I will pay all the cost by Paypal. Or do you know a good dealer in Canada/US that I can contact? There is a dealer here in Sao Paulo but I sick and tired of trying to contact him. Tom
  2. Man you care who you fly with do you? What are you using for a cam?
  3. Pat how are you. This really simple but on no wind days I simply grab the top of the breaks. I'm to lazy to buy and install the Acro handles. I don't like to wrap the brakes with paramotors so I just grab the top of the brakes. I also grab the tops when trowing the wing around (makes the wind more responsive with less imput) But I also have a digit throttle that makes it really easy to do this. It might be a little harder with the standard throttle.
  4. daneellard We had a guy here in Brazil (same issue 65 and a bit heavy). The ground handling almost killed him. I thought he was going to give up. Then he learned a few things 1. No training on 1-3kn days. He came out only from 3-7kn days or every morning lol. Winds generally build here then drop to nothing at 5pm or it's completely blown out for the day. 2. he kept at it like paying his ex-wife 3. He realized that he would have to get really good a launching, long running was not in the cards. Now everyday we have 4-10 kns you can be sure hes at the site. He's a pop the wing up one-three step guy. But we are lucky to have some crazy good flying conditions here. I know its not so easy where you guys are. Some times we get a little tired of flying if you could imagine this lol. I kitesurf so many times I fly in the morning midday or night depending on the day then have a kite session in the middle somewhere.... sleep like a rock these nights lol
  5. I have the 26 Speedster and I'm not sure you need to use both. As you know you can use both all through the reflex range (Normal & ALC). This does not make sense to me knowing the impacts using the normal brakes have on a reflex profile but you can if you wish. So if your in reflex and want your hart to skip a beat just reach up have pull 12" on the ALC, I'm not sure why you would need the normal brakes. The ACL on the speed is another animal I've never been on a reflex wing that has a dynamic ACL like this. I fly both the Nuc and Ozone and I remember after flying the Nuc I hopped on the speed and gave the ALC's a 12" pull......wow full spiral dive in about 220deg lol
  6. "now so i've started up a new hobbie its called 'Staring at your paramotor with your mates in a cold garage'....don't think its going to catch on somehow." Add free beer and the hobby will grow faster then you could imagine! To the other Canadian (Patrick).... Taking Booze to a farmer works magic and the photo's are a great Idea!!! You know once he hangs the picture everyone the enters the house will have to here the story of how it got it!!!!! lol Simon there is an idea that might work really well for some of your site owners. Welcome to the forum Sam
  7. Shit when I seen "one life, live it!" I thought you got divorced again! lol Marry Christmas and happy New Year to All
  8. Amazing work. I find this type of work absolutely amazing. Coming from the technical world we really never get to create anything (at least I don’t feel that way). I’ve being involved in connecting continents together, on ships dropping fiber out a sea etc and for me it’s just another boring day. But I could sit and watch people make things from metal for hours….. Great project, can’t wait to see a video of it running. Cheers T
  9. Sorry I was away traveling. I'm a member of the HGFA but have never had to present anything here in Brazil free flying/paramotor. Agreed here in Victoria as long as you do not impact the commercial traffic no one will care and there is no real formed body governing the sport. We actual fly withing the normal restricted commercial zone here in Victoria. We have one beach that is half a click from the airport. We keep below the main high rises but still fly here no issue. As for take offs "any beach will do" We actually self govern ourselves and new pilots to take care of beach goers to avoid accidents. From where I see it the Brazil government is to busy robbing tax $ from the people to be concerned about some guys flying around with little motors on their backs. cheers
  10. I'm a little nervous to opens Simon's movies now? wow that is really bad Paraglider accident (stupid people tricks) T
  11. I thought the same thing!!!! BTW Nice wing! Too easy to launch!!
  12. I'm not a facebook fan. But I would love to fly Buzios area. You might know Adilson ferreira he runs a club school here (ES). I fly with the guys quite a bit. I will talk with Adilson maybe we can get a club meet one weekend soon at Buzios. T
  13. where are you guys in Rio? I'm in Vitoria ES We should get together one weekend!
  14. I was on something, although more of a shrubbery in nature Ahhh... Time Warp!!!! lol Too funny!
  15. Simon I don't think it was a system error notice the time of the post "PostPosted: Sun Nov 10, 2013 8:34 pm" I'm guessing outkast was inhaling large quantities of red at this time thus the user error. Also explaining the time travel...... cheers T
  16. So I'm watching the video all is cool, hemmmm why are that doing tattoos at the base? Keep watching..... WTF Simon I don't even want to know how you found this!!!! I was having a normal friday for once. Now its all F!@#$ed up after watching that. Thanks Simon....
  17. Steve / Pat You made me laugh! I like it FFFC Simon can we register that? We will have a ton of members?
  18. LOL Too funny! I cant drink that piss! I'll need to sell the house buy a trailer and find some guns first.... Once I have all that I can call my buddy Dell drink some beer fly around and shoot some shit! Give us a "Hell Yea" Poor new guy! Orange sorry about that we got a little carried away.... Can you believe these guys calling a Canadian a Yank? Wow harsh place.
  19. I agree You owe me a beer or two for that one!
  20. LOL I know kg (Canadian) Pat you stole that motor gear!!!! (good on you, nice kit) But good advice from Pat just get going. Cheers T
  21. Welcome! First priority..... get into the light beer! How much is 17st anyway and what the hell is a patch (Marijuana Patch)? Us North American guys need a translator to understand these posts lol Really good to have you. Cheers Tom
  22. Simon is right my apologizes I missed the "cold" part in your note. That will change things for sure to a degree. Simon "I actually think that Meteorology is a subject that you never stop learning but it is essentual to have the basics taught to you. " I agree it's an area where if you have the interest you can learn something new every flight. And just when your think you understand whats going on something new and unexpected happens. Here is a book I picked up way back, But still bring it with me from time to time and try to understand what is going on up there. Its a dry read like most. "Understanding the Sky by Dennis Pagen" is a paragliding pilots' must read to understand the invisible medium that allows free flight. Paramount for paragliding safety to decide when to fly or not and also for performance to understand sources of lift. Essential reading for P1 beginner to P4 advanced paraglider pilots. Recommended companion book for our When I first pick this up I carried it with me and tried to understand the day and then predict what was coming in the next two days. You can actually get quite good at this. It amazes me the number of people that fly and know 0 about what they are flying in. cheers T
  23. I can not tell you about Spain but I can tell you about Brazil. When your talking about thermals there is tons of variables so you need to take care and learn more about them (learning weather and general flying environment is one of the best things a pilot can do). Two high level things affecting thermals and intensity 1. Time of year (sun intensity) 2. Weather (level of instability) There are others but just to keep it simple (grab a book or Google). Keep in mind max sun intensity normally happens between 12-3pm An example; So here in Brazil say your out for a fly on the beach and it's mid summer and you turn inland and start heading for the mountains. Once away from the beach you will notice clouds starting to form in front of you around 2-3k in. They will not form beside the beach due to the sea breeze cooling the land and breaking up the thermals building process. But before you reach them you will already be in fear do to the poorly formed (broken) thermals that are hitting you. They are sharp and really moving fast thus hitting your wing hard 3-8m/s. Say this has not made you turn back yet and you continue on. You will now start to hit some better and bigger formed thermals (still generally a mess) moving at 3-5m/s. If you keep going you will then start hitting the land that has been heated all day and experience large fast moving turbulent thermals 6-10m/s (keep in mind 10m/s is 36km/h up). With thermals you need to understand its a moving mass and when a mass of anything moves the location it once occupied must be filled buy something else. So as the thermal rips up at 8m/s and the air on its outer edge is moving down at 8m/s or so trying to fill the void ( this is called shear, you will read about this). Shear is a horrible thing I'm sure all the guys here have a stories or two about shear and I don't really care to make more. Also ever see a twister? This is caused by a large thermal moving up really fast and the air is coming in under the thermal as fast as it can to replace the missing mass of air thus causing a twister (this is why you should never fly low inland during times of heavy thermal creation) . This is but one reason if your going to travel inland you gain altitude of 1k meters at least first lol (things are allot calmer the higher you are up (I will not go into detail why). Unless you connect with a thermal and it takes you through the convergence laver (but I will not go into this) scary ride! Pick up a book and read a ton about the environment you fly in but can not see! Oh and just because it's blue does not mean the above is not happening. There is a time and a place to fly anywhere you want (in most cases) You need to learn the time and the place. Hope this helps a little T
  24. But looking at heat generation I can see solar farms generating thermals. 1. A black surface absorbs the light converting it to heat. The darker the better conversion rate. 2. A mirror or white surface reflects the light quite well and does not generate heat (while line on road) I'm guessing the solar farm units will generate some heat but not as much as a drark surface. I think it also depends on the panel Dark type (could generate more heat) Mirror type (less heat) maybe less then dark land forms Wow Great to see we are finding clean power! Hard to say what it would be like to fly over one. Anyone here done this? T
