  1. Man I want to fly there! hurts to watch this video.
  2. Hope this helps. For me (as we are not getting and younger lol) and I like to keep thing simple. I also came from 5+ years of paragliding. I wanted weight shift and light light light….. I didn't want to take up motoring unless I could find a system under 20k with some sort of weight shift system (my personal goals when I started looking). You are the almost the same weigh as me (I’m 78-81k on any given day). Now I also fly in the hotter climates and most times in shorts. On a cold day or high altitude day my flying suit is jeans and a 500g flying jacket. Just keep this in mind when thinking about weight. If you’re looking for the same type of system then you only have a few options. If you’re not worried about the weight you have tons of options. That motor your looking at is only a few kg away from my entire motor setup. So I’m guessing it might be a good motor but (in my view) heavy. I'm in Brazil with no real support for my motor. I ordered a few extra parts that I know could brake other then that I watch the motor for any parts wearing and order them on the first signs of issues. I didn't want to be limited to the local dealers for a motor. Check your wing and see if you need to change the risers to add the motor. I doubt it but worth a check. One good thing I know for you is the Ozone wings are made right beside you if you choose to go this way I can send you the Global reps number and email. I’m guessing they will drop ship to you (they did this for me in Brazil). LOL where in TL are you? I would love to go there again (with wife lol). Man what a great place to fly! I've thought many times about packing my gear up have heading there. T
  3. Great read! I enjoyed! I Lived in Brisbane and this is where I learned to Fly with Phil http://pgqld.com.au/html/instructions.htm One of the best instructors I've came to know (hard ass with a hart of gold but it's required to teach in this sport) I miss parawaiting in Brisbane. Had some great flights there! Moved around quite a bit and then landed in Brazil. I've been to TL 4 times or so. Nice place (you dog). I'll type some more later.
  4. Oh man that is funny! Almost dropped my coffee..... "Dear colin Aluminum is actually the best material for a crumple zone as it crushes extremely well to absorb impact. The gas tank just moves up out of the way. Look at the picture on U-Turn USA and you can see a Flat Top that I stalled into the ground on a 19sm uncertified acro glider. I used the entire crumple zone and walked away without a scratch. The gas tank was completely unharmed as well which you can see clearly in the picture. The Flat Top saves lives. Tons of them. We all crash at some point if you fly long enough. Without that crumple zone I would be dead 10 times over. " The best part is "The gas tank just moves up out of the way" magic.... PTwizz your trying to apply logic and math you crazy bastard. Its not needed "It just moves out of the way" What do they say..... Ignorance is bliss? He lives in his own self made little planet where he is Albert. Wow how is it people like this are allowed to roam free and multiply lol cheers T
  5. For discovery? Let us know when it will air. Cool
  6. RD250s and 350s Remember the RD500 V4? Man I ton of people are 6 feet under due to this unit (Race unit any teen with money could buy) I remember the RD well... Anyone that was riding in 1st-2nd-3rd gear and past the 6k only needed to let off and quickly twist the throttle back to full. This would result in the rider on their back in traffic or worst on their back in the meat wagon. Crazy bike. Yea your right single throw is only in 4 strokes right. So from what I read its a 160cc engine. So not matter what the engine should/will have more then enough bottom end for a paramoter (crazy topend). also it seems to be targeted for the race applications (makes sense). I'm also guessing it will cost around 6k+ just for the motor With this engine the race guys will be able to fly a 14m-16m wing lol Sexy it is!

  8. Interesting question.... never thought of that! If it has one journal per piston it will really be smooth. But really does not most of the vibration come from the prop?
  9. All things even, the single has more torque than a multi. Torque is what accelerates you. Add the less weight of a single vs a multi, the single is far quicker off the line than the multi (bike as an example) The multi has smaller pistons, less internal part weight, etc., and thus the multi can spin faster and thus can produce far more horsepower. Horsepower is what pushes you thru the air and the multi has far better top speed. In paramotoring I’m not sure…. Might be lighter, might spin up faster but with the lacking torque I’m not sure if that would be the case. Things that make you go hemmmmmm Could it be marketing at work here? Put me down for a 7cyl too! It will make my glider go faster hehehehehehehehe.
  10. The 85mm and 50mm are hugely popular among portrait photographers. But they never factored in paramotoring and the use of the lens for a med landscape lens lol. I have the Nikon 50mm f/1.4D and the 180mm F/2.8 both great lenses I never thought of taking the 50mm flying. As I’ve been really lazy these days I have not done any movies or photography in a long time. My guess for the picture loss is partly the motion In your arms and paramotor the other half is the sensor while in “auto” mode. I hardly ever use Auto. I will use “p” before going to auto. To get a really good crisp pictures under harsh conditions you really need a D200 FX class camera. The cameras we have just done have the sensors for this if you ask me. But you can still get some quality shots. If you really want to play with all this use the “p” option. It’s the recommendation Aperture/Shutter setting (when flying you just don’t have the time to go full manual). Your camera should have “manual M”, “Aperture A”, “Sutter S” then “recommended P” When you set it to “p” play with your active lighting, ISO’s, WB etc. Or here’s another idea set your camera to “Aperture A” priority this will set your aperture to auto but leave your shutter open for adjustment (check your manual make sure I’m right I could have this reversed). In this manual setting you can set the shutter to get the right light vs speed (take a few test shots before you take off). Easy to adjust in flight too. If you’re not sure what shutter speed to use just put the camera back in “p” mode or auto and push the button to focus the camera (you will see the shutter speed the camera auto mode intends to use). Set the shutter to this setting or a little less if you think your going to get in a “less light” situation. Give this a go 1. Set the camera to aperture priority “Aperture A” 2. Set the focus to infinite 3. Set the camera to take multi pic’s 4. You have some fast memory? Take two or three or ten of everything (just for quick and dirty photos). I like to use manual the difference in pictures is really night and day. BTW I’ve never tried these settings while flying so this is all just a guess./recommendation Hope this helps T
  11. I'm not sure about Canon (Nikon guy). How is sharpening set on both camera? If you change it from default to hard it will make a big difference also check your Active D-Lighting's level of adjustment can be set to operate automatically or manually at four different levels (Low, Normal, High, Extra high); High works really well for overcast days (maintained and mid-tones adjusted for a totally natural look to the image) But D-lighting really depends on the camera (some are good in auto others not so good) you will need to try out the manual mode to determine how yours is. The primes will always produce a better picture. I don't know how much you know about lens but they are more important then the camera (in most cases). If you want perfect pictures most lenses out there are flawed. Both with Canon and Nikon (if they make 50 lenses 40 are all with flaws of varies types). Always read a ton of reviews before you buy. Buy great lanes and then just replace the cameras (if your going to take up photography) lol my .02 hope it helps
  12. Nice rant! I agree 100% Sad truth is bullshit often becomes truth instead of reality "crumple zone" and tube frames lol stop readying the PPG BS from the king of BS (my advice) lol
  13. I have the ABM on the mini so I use weight shift all the time. I also do allot of lowdown slalom type things so I have not lowered them. I have a tendency to grab the top of the brake for even more response. You can drop them one handle length really easy. I did this on the Dudek. Drop them down one handle length then when you need this back just grab the top of the handle. Next time your landing take your hands out of the brakes and grab the top of the brakes. The flare is amazing tip toe touch every time. cheers T
  14. Is that right? One litre every 10 minutes. Easy to work out. 5l = 50 minutes I'm 80k on a miniplane (80cc) I think the mini is opposite lol 1 liter per hour! Its not that good but I didn't know the 180's were that thirsty.
  15. Nic how are you? I have thought of lowering my brakes a few times but I never do because I like the good response. I have to admit the arms do ache after an hour or so. I have a tendency to lodge my thumb or fingers into the risers or just let go. I don't like letting go when thermalling (safety). I have no solution to date. Have you had the wing to the mountain yet? I'm 80k and have a 26m (speedster). If you do take it free flying let me know what you think of the glide. Congrats on the goal! Tom
  16. Congrats on the new motor! Sounds like your enjoying the sport. Sleep must be a bitch lol Cheers T
  17. There was a mix up when I bought my Nuc (they sent me a 29m, I wanted a 26m. Im 80k and fly in shorts) I was not to stressed (easy to sell here in Brazil). I had no issue flying the wing under weight (great glide) when things got a little thermic the wing tips came in out no issue and fast. Anyways I sold the Nuc to the teacher here. He really loves the wing. He did a Tandem on the wing last weekend he likes it that much lol. We had about 5-6kns on shore that day the glider came up they took a few steps and off they went lol.
  18. Ultra 130 with ABM If your a paraglider pilot you will want the weight shift of the ABM. Also the light weight is so important for me The Ultra is one of the most powerful motors HP/weight (and my next motor lol) I have the miniplane now with the 130 prop I'm 80k but fly light. I would not suggest this for you. Actually I do not want to suggest anything...... but have a look at them.... IMO there is no other there is a thread on them at the moment http://www.paratour.com/content/ultra130.php Also check foot flyer.com there is a good review there. Tom
  19. Nucleaon... Great wing for sure.... I miss having one. If I had the cash I dont know what I would buy 24m Nuc or 24m Ozone
  20. lol well said this should be put in the "Top 10 Paramotor quotes" "Give me a nice mellow stress free wing any day of the week!! If I wanted to fly fast and twitchy I would not have chosen to fly a paramotor!!" Simon
  21. I live in Vitoria Brazil (easy to find on Google maps) It is diffidently flying country here. I have two flying sites within an hour that are on the world comp agenda every year (there is many others as well). Check out my local on paraglidingearth http://www.paraglidingearth.com/ I was not able to make it to the mountains last Saturday but a buddy of mine did. He was nice enough to inform me Monday that after 90min of flying around he got tired and decided to land. Due to the high he was still on he proceeded to drink way to much beer. I only had one response for him (F@#$ off and get out of my office). The paramotor flying here is really nice to. The beaches run forever.... how far do you want to fly..... regulations.... how do you spell that? You can park the 4x4 on the beach or real close unload and go. Hell sometimes if you cannot access the beach launch from the first suitable location next to it. People love to watch no one tends to get uptight its fresh entertainment for them. However summer here is windy and even myself I tend to stay out of the mountains during this time (thermals are 8-9+) I personally seen guys land with 10.8 on the Verio not for me lol. BTW he was still white as a ghost when he landed! During summer I motor on the light wind days and kitesurf on the 20kn days (these 20kn days are quite often during the summer). The thermic mountain activity pulls the sea air in fast If you get up in the morning you can motor almost every day no matter the season (excluding rain). I'm just too lazy to get up early for anything... lol I'm moving now but my old place had two extra beds never used.... sad.... Oh two years ago I hosted to comp pilots for two weeks no charge (well my beer bill.... I think that fair lol) I can also get you a place to stay at the base of the mountain cheap if needed I know quite a few of the guys there and it’s crazy beautiful (all really nice people) As for the wing, are you close to morgy…. I would go down to his shop bug the shit out of him until he hands his wing over for a test drive. Then you can see what I mean. Being from the paraglider world I found that I didn't like most of the paramotor wings (I do miss the Dudek Nuc from time to time) . There’s a feel that I’m use to and the Ozone even being the slower of the wings was the only one to offer the feel and feedback I was looking for. I also like a wing that is dynamic and turns on a dime and the speedster excels in this area no issue (the 24m would be crazy fun). So try some wings out it might save you from buying the wrong one first. Wings are like women in many ways only difference is we can try as many as we like at no charge and they don't mind. Cheers T
  22. Rob the Speedster is a C-class wing (take away the speed value and its a B). I think there has been quite a few people use it to learn on but I'm not going to advise you there. Sil, The speedster is not fastest glider.... ok maybe it's in bottom of the top 4 or 5 for its class. So if you want to go in a straight line fast look elsewhere or buy the 24m. I'm 80k and have the 26m. The speedster is a bit different from of any of the paramotor wings that I have been on (standard weight & C class) the speedster is the most dynamic and paraglider like of the lot. I also come from the paraglider world. I had a Dudek Nuc and it is a fast bit of kit but for me not as dynamic as the Ozone (It can be but requires allot of brake input or brake and ball combo). The reason I bought the 26m was I use it in the mountains and paramotor. Glide is I think equal to a DHV 1-2 no more. It has the lightest breaks as well for the days you want to really through the glider around. The wing tip steering is indescribable lol maybe "pull = instant spiral" I personally like the Ozone for the paraglider feel it has. When I'm going XC I'm always the last one of the lot unless I go full reflex then I'm out in front (the guys here don't like the reflex to much lol) if they did I would be back of the bus again. But I have to be honest with you on slow (neutral) I really like the feel. If I had the cash I probably would buy the 24m too (like morg did) Hope this helps....
  23. Great advice "I would strongly recommend you get some input from local pilots (people who don't have any financial incentive) before doing any training" Ask as many questions as you can. You will find most of the pilots more then willing to tell you everything you want to know and tons you don't really need to know lol They are a long winded bunch... As you have time try and hit a fly-in to if you can. Welcome to the Forum! T
