  1. Hi Paul - there are a number of similar threads on this forum. Some of the more senior members here recommend, when funds are tight, to try and get as new a wing as possible - as that is what really keeps you airborne Good luck researching your equipment needs, Andy
  2. Thanks for sharing your latest PPG adventure Rob, compelling reading - especially the adrenalin rush of a skid landing Andy
  3. Looks like you have a great winter project ahead of you Chris !Are you planning to keep a blog to document and share your progress ? Andy
  4. Define "better" Edward ? Ha - let the flame war begin... Andy
  5. Great pictures Richard ! Must have been a fantastic day, along some of my favourite coastline anywhere. Very difficult to tell even with cropping. But far more likely to be a Porbeagle or even Basking Shark, which are resident off the British coast all year-round.Perhaps best to log your sighting with The Shark Trust - as they should be able to ID it if anyone can. Andy
  6. NB: These are not my own video clips. They are just some of my favourites found whilst doing my newbie research into PPG. Off to the Far East for this great video clip. The first part shows some stunning views around the beautiful Karst mountain scenery of Guilin (Guanxi province), China. This would be well up in my top 10 ten list of dream places to fly (once I get my wings), as I have had some great trips there. The second part (2m10s) takes us along the beautiful coast of Malaysia, finishing with a flight over downtown Kuala Lumpur. I am amazed that they could fly over the top of the Petronas Tower (as shown in last weeks 'Daredevil: Human Spider' programme). As a national landmark, would have expected it to have had a security exclusion zone. Anyway enjoy the video... (As always right click on video if want to view YouTube in larger wide format & HQ)[youtubevideo] [/youtubevideo]Andy
  7. Nicely put Dan.I think that you have just come up with the strapline for this website ! Andy
  8. Congratulations Karan - that is one step closer to achieving your great dream ! Andy
  9. As the saying goes, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing !
  10. Hi Madog - harder to find than I thought...Oops sorry, just read the small print - this is a 2007 price Dudek Synthesis 24 = €2,800 Dudek Synthesis Pricing At current exchange rates that is: AUD$4,546 US$4,175 Wow - hadn't realised the AUD$ had strengthened so much ! Andy
  11. Awesome ! Is a default view of a members local region in the future development pipeline? Andy
  12. Beautiful part of the world !Am really with envy of you folks going in April - it will be a blast ! Andy
  13. Sorry to hear that Simon.Does that mean you are without wheels ? Andy
  14. What about this for a sinister cloud formation Looks like something out of Independence Day... Clouds Over Moscow Spook Citizens: \ Click on picture to run video Andy
  15. Hi Mark If weather holds, sounds as if it could be a good crowd up at Lambourn on Saturday. Are you and Nick planning to come up? If so don't forget your glider Talking of which we had the full size thing (powered glider) circling over us last weekend. Simon knew the pilot, who is also a paramotorist. Anyway hope to see you both at the weekend Andy
  16. So did you manage to get out flying Dave ?Where is this secret site? Any pics from the air ? Andy
  17. Hi Ken - I suppose it will depend on wind direction, but we were up at the Flagpole with Simon last Saturday. For reference that is : 51°32'19.20"N 1°34'45.16"W StreetMap: OS Map Location (1:25k) Andy
  18. Hoping than many of you are able to make the most of the good weather today... and not stuck in a darkened room doing reports like yours truly For those of you that can't, here is another video to help you dream of your next flight. NB: These are not my own video clips. They are just some of my favourites found whilst doing my newbie research into PPG. Off to sunny Arizona for the next clip. An interesting video from the Arizona Skyrats (great name) of XC trek to a massive Coppermine. Jump to 1m40s to skip intro stills (and some naff sound effects). But the video shots over AZ hills are nice, and flight into such a vast mine (~3min) must have been awesome. Sorry but this is a Vimeo clip - but here is a still pic to give you an idea Arizona Skyrats: Copper mine flight Update: you might be interested to know that you can embed an within syntax to hyperlink from it. Excellent... In plain English, this means you can now just click on the above pic to take you to the video Andy
  19. The word is that a few cool accessories are to be rolled out for this camera, including a wireless remote and a wireless stereo microphone. But if you didn't want that, you could just put it into repeat photo mode (where it takes a photo every 2, 5 or 10 seconds). As the HD version supports up to 32GB SDHC, you won't run out of storage. You can then choose the individual photos you want, or merge the into a stopmotion type movie... Andy
  20. I believe so Phil. Hence my ThrustSSC remark.Andy
  21. 1) It just looks like you need to buy the memory card (SD type), as the following is included: 5 Megapixel HD Helmet HERO Camera 1 Rechargeable 1100 mAh Lithium-Ion Battery 1 Waterproof Quick-Release Housing (180’/60 m) 1 Headlamp-Style Head Strap 1 Vented Helmet Strap 2 Curved, 3M™ Adhesive Mounts 2 Flat, 3M Adhesive Mounts 1 Three-Way Pivoting Side Arm Assembly 2 Quick-Release Buckles 1 USB Cable 1 Component Video (HDTV) Cable 1 Composite Video + Audio Out Cable 2) More a case of switching it on before launch, if using head mount. Especially if jumping of a mountain Actually there is a fairly chunky Power/Mode button on the front of the camera, and shutter button on the top. So the camera can presumably be operated in motion, but might need some practice first. Andy
  22. Wow - great link Gulfstream1A 27,000 mile round that world trek - that is some adventure Not quite sure how accurate their flight time log is, but that is an impressive speed (~60mph) if they did it in 450hrs. Andy
  23. I would love to see running costs in an ideal world - but almost impossible in this sport. There is always dinked propeller counts as well Andy
  24. FAI world paramotor speed record Just in case anyone missed this news...At just over 40mph - that is much slower than some folk have claimed elsewhere. Is there somebody out there willing to bring the record home? - we showed the world with Thrust2 and ThrustSSC Time for your jet propelled paramotor Simon ! Andy
  25. Hi folks Finally made it up to the Flagpole yesterday, as opposed to the Red Barn field. Beautiful views in the sunshine, if a bit gusty at times - but great day ground handling. Anyway I digress. Took a few pictures to prove to my better half that I am not spending the weekends down the pub To cut a long story short there was a mix up with camera cases - and ended up with Simon thinking that this was mine, as was in the back of his trailer. It is a very small Hama camera pouch, looks well used, and just big enough for small compact camera : Any claimants ? Andy
