  1. Well that's pissed me right off....stuck in Spain (yes I know, it's hell) Please make sure you get some really decent video footage with that posh camera of yours Lurve fireworks
  2. Excellent job Gordon. Real attention to detail. Well done.
  3. My view from 7022ft (-14 degs). Definitely shouldn't have worn shorts
  4. That's impressive! Questions: What are you flying? How much do you weigh? What was the temperature at ground level? How long did it take to get up there? Cheers Dan
  5. I've had a go at high altitude (managed 7022ft), but I was really nervous about being at full throttle for such a long time. I fly a PAP PA125 which was flat out at about 9500rpm for around 35 - 40 mins to get there. Am I pushing my luck doing this to my treasured flying machine, or are they not actually flat out when they are flat out, if you know what I mean Dan
  6. A fleeing Taliban, desperate for water, was plodding through the Afghan desert when he saw something far off in the distance. Hoping to find water, he hurried toward the oasis, only to find a little old Jewish man at a small stand, selling ties. The Taliban asked, "Do you have water?" The Jewish man replied, "I have no water. Would you like to buy a tie? They are only $5." The Taliban shouted, "Idiot! I do not need an over-priced tie. I need water! I should kill you, but I must find water first!" "OK," said the old Jewish man, "It does not matter that you do not want to buy a tie and that you hate me. I will show you that I am bigger than that. If you continue over that hill to the east for about two miles, you will find a lovely restaurant. It has all the ice cold water you need. Shalom." Cursing, the Taliban staggered away over the hill. Several hours later he staggered back, almost dead & said, "Your brother won't let me in without a tie!"
  7. Nice video footage. Couldn't help thinking that if one of your engines packed in, what a pain in the arse it would be to retrieve it. The thought of hauling a paramotor up one of those cliffs is making me sweat just sat here Nice to see a break in the weather for you Cheers Dan
  8. Crackin' video! Reminds me what a cool planet we get to live on. Dan
  9. LOL There was a flying instructor at my field (Barton aerodrome, Manchester), that whilst conducting a trial lesson had his 1st epeleptic seizure on final approach into Woodvale aerodrome, leaving him unconscious. The poor sod next to him had never been in a light aircraft before and managed with the help of the tower to go around. They tried to talk him down, but each time they failed but they were able to talk him through the necessaries to get him around the circuit and lined up on finals again for another try (which in itself was simply amazing). After several tries, the instructor woke up on finals unaware of what had occurred and simply landed the aircraft. It's an amazing story, but really sad because this chap had invested many years and many thousands of pounds and was on the final hurdle before getting into the airlines. He will never be able to pilot an aircraft again.
  10. Just ordered one of these, although I thought £50 is a bit steep for a strap Hope it turns out to be good enough for me to forget the price. Thanks for the heads up on this Tom Dan
  11. Ladies and Gentlemen, a disturbing insight into the mind of your host
  12. Superb! This will come in very handy as I am too bloody lazy to learn the language
  13. When I removed the top of my shoulder during a meeting with the prop, due to me being unprepared for a revving engine on startup, my complacency and netting that was held on by cable ties cut right back, Pierre from PAP came up with a simple safety solution, which involved stitching a strap to the end of one of the prop covers which straps to the frame. Once the paramotor is started and I have secured the throttle in a safe place I take off the prop covers. I know that many would say you shouldn't go near the prop when the motor is running, however it's extremely unlikely the engine will suddenly rev for no reason. Obviously this is only a solution to those who have clutched PPG's. Dan
  14. That was f****n hilarious Thanks for posting
  15. Or you could fit a Cameleon throttle ..... which has various safety features, such as automatically disengaging the cruise control when starter button is pressed ! Even with cruise engaged you can fine adjust rpm or operate throttle normaly with one finger. Cruise control may be unnecessary for students but is highly useful on longer flights - especially on cold days. I wouldn't be without it now. +1 Love it, wouldn't go back.
  16. Amazing skill. Not just the flying, but also the video work Great find!
  17. No airways, just the odd fighter jet chasing after UFO's Happened at 5am a couple of Sunday's ago. 3 Eurofighters and several helicopters flying low level (around 500ft) for around 30 minutes chasing ..... something, witnessed by hundreds of people as a "gold coloured cigar shaped object with a kite shaped sheet below it which pulsed with red and green flashing lights" This incident has really shook the place and made all the local newspapers. People here were genuinly frightened by the incident. The police have been trying to establish what the hell was going on, but have met with complete denials about everything stating catagorically that there weren't any fighter jets in the area at that time. A bit stupid really as the incident was witnessed by so many credible people. Bizarre It was a jet powered hang glider flying upside down and the pilot was in a pod That's exactly the conclusion I came to
  18. I cannot comment on any other way of mounting a video camera to a helmet because I haven't had the need to try and find an alternative. After 122 PPG videos I have never had even the slightest worry that the mount wouldn't hold, it's so solid. Obviously I have a safety line attached just in case. Vibration has never been an issue as, as Simon correctly stated, the body is a great vibration damper. I have however, on more than one occasion got the lines caught whilst turning around after landing. Never a big issue though.

  20. Hi Dan, what helmet mount do you use for the panasonic SD 600.... I'm thinking about buying a Panasonic camcorder, and was wondering whether I could use my GoPro mount which I already have fixed to the top of my lid.... Neil.. Yes you can. That's what I've done Small amount of preparation required: You need to buy a GoPro tripod mount (about £8 on Ebay). You then need to convert it from female to male screw. I just got a bolt, screwed it into the GoPro adaptor then hacksawed the top off, leaving me with a male GoPro tripod adaptor. Then, glue a rubber o ring to the mounting surface of the adaptor. Sorted
  21. True ..... but it seems to take an awful lot of bent cages and shattered props to achieve that safe height. Oh how true!! I went through 4 props and 3 bent cages before things started to click.
  22. Henry, I've had a GoPro HD for a couple of years now and I've also got a Panasonic SD600 HD video camera to compare it to. The GoPro is great and I love the results I get. However, I find that these days, the GoPro is spending more and more time in it's case and I'm using the Panasonic far more often. The reason is that the Panasonic footage is far far superior to that of the GP (GoPro). The wide angle footage of the GP is nice but you soon get bored of its unusual wide angle...ness. The Panasonic is also wide angle, but more natural. The other thing is that Paramotoring is quite a gentle sport compared to others, so the robustness of the unit is kind of wasted. I've been using the Panasonic on my helmet for PPG for nearly 2 years now and it hasn't had one knock. One other point, is that I can use my Panasonic for everday video (family/holidays etc) as it's a fantastic piece of kit. In this video I am using the GP on a pole and the Panasonic on my lid. Due to Youtube compression, they both look the same, but trust me the HD video that the Panasonic spits out, watched on a decent flat screen telly, has to be seen to be believed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FM-GlxIooGw With regards to editing, if you use pc, use Cyberlink Powerdirector. You won't be dissapointed. I've done all my videos with this program and it is without a doubt the best. I've just got myself a Macbook Pro 17", and I like it....a lot. But it was more than twice the price of a similar spec PC laptop. Although I have Final Cut Pro X on it, I've not actually tried video editing on it yet, so I cannot compare. But something tells me that i't's going to be great One last thing. My friend has the GoPro2 and I didn't rate it over my GoPro Hero HD. Anyway good luck with it. Dan
  23. Honestly, apart from that really stupid bit around 3:40 where they decide to involve members of the public in the already dangerous environment of their vehicles (unforgivable), I didn't see anything too much wrong with this clip. Yes, they were very much risking their own safety, which I couldn't give two hoots about, but they were, for almost the whole video, flying within the 500ft rule. Away from people and built up areas. Stupid car stunt aside, I actually really enjoyed the clip, displaying real PPG skills, until the end when I saw who was flying. I only say this because I know from other videos that Dell really is an inconsiderate pilot and has no qualms about upsetting and risking harm to people on the ground. As for getting the sport banned because of this type of flying? I don't think so. I truly, and maybe cynically believe that the eventual regulation of the sport will be decided by the governmental financial departments as opposed to the health and safety. Dan
