  1. Hi Lee Mine's somewhere in between. If you press it just for a moment it will stutter and come back to life. In the video, I was trying to re adjust my throttle strap and was unknowingly making prelonged (couple of seconds) contact with the kill switch. Even when the engine had stopped, I couldn't figure out why
  2. I'm also 85kg on a 26, and you're right it does feel good. When I say drops like a stone, I mean 500ft/min. I know this because I accidentally hit the land button at 500ft and was on the deck in exactly 60 seconds. It was on video, so I was able to time it precisely. I'm not sure, as this is my first and only wing, but is 500ft/min dropping like a stone? It felt quick. As for fuel economy, I'm averaging 4l/hr Dan
  3. +1 (150hrs down the line with the very 1st Revo2 off the line. 001) It does drop like a stone though, but i've decided this is actually a plus for a PPG wing, because when I want to come down, I throttle back ....and plummet Dan
  4. I thought I'd show this post to my wife and let her know how I'm going to live my life from now on. Excellent advice Pete. Thank you. Ok, now that's clear, could anyone tell me whether it's true that you should put a steak on a black eye? If it is, can anyone tell me if foreceps are any good for retrieving said steak from up ones arse

    App question...

Hi Lee I used to fly down the low level corridor most weeks. I have to say I didn't enjoy it. It's narrow and all the traffic is forced below 1200ft. You really have to keep your wits about you. And that's flying GA. I wouldnt want to do it on a PPG ....unless I was below 100ft Dan

    App question...

Does anyone know of an iPhone app that can deliver something akin to the Garmin Etrex interface, with a customisable display so you can choose from a list of different fields to suit. ie alt, speed, vert speed, moving time. I'm not really interested in anything else like maps, airspace etc The closest I can find is MotionX, which is great and will do the job, but the page I would be interested in has fixed parameters and 3 boxes just for different speeds (max, ave, current). It would be perfect if these were changable. Thanks Dan
  7. That's strange, stickygrape's getting nearly twice the climb rate with the same engine What d'you weigh Stuart?
  8. Thanks Stickygrape, that's exactly what I was looking for. It's funny that you back off to 100ft/min more than I can climb flat out If you are 100kg, 15kg more than me, and you're getting 800ft/min, then maybe a sustained 1000ft/min climb is attainable. Can't wait to find out
  9. It's shocking how much 3 axis microlights have come on in recent years....and their price. One things for sure though, Cessna will never dominate this side of GA again. They had their day in the 60's and 70's.
  10. I'm interested to find out what sort of climb rates pilots are getting with their equipment. Engine/wing (inc size) combination and all up pilot weight. I'm on a PAP PA125 with Revo2 26m at about 128kg launch weight + fuel, and I'm getting around 1.5m/s or about 300f/min. I love the idea of going up at around 1000ft/min (5m/s) to altitudes in excess of 10000ft, taking around 10 minutes to achieve this. I could never afford to fly a fixed wing aircraft that could manage this. My old Cessna 150 could manage a little more than 300ft/min, but not much, and that would die off at around 4000ft. To this end, PAP are making me a PPG with a Polini Thor 200 . I'm going to stick with my Revo2 for the time being. Will report back as soon as I get to test it out. Dan
  11. If you've got a spare hour, this documentary about a female PG pilot surviving being sucked up to over 30,000ft is very interesting. It's broken down into lots of short videos. [youtubevideo] [/youtubevideo]

  14. I had a valid PPL(A) for 16 yrs and 600 hrs.....but then I discovered flying, and have no need for a licence anymore :D

    Ouch

That is hilarious!! I'm lying in bed with my laptop, crying, trying not to wake my missus, the whole bed's shaking but no noise coming out my mouth. It hurts! "Mother fucker, fuck the fucking world my new band is called sikyel" LOL LOL LOL What a knob!
  16. Riveting stuff. Definitely a must watch. Thanks for posting Dan

    Bastards!!

I never stop wanting, and these people just keep feeding the problem... On a less serious note, this is a very irresponsible video, 500ft rules being broken, speed limits, harassing sea mammals, just all round reckless behaviour. GoPro, shame on you! Dan
  18. I seriously don't get the preaching attitude. There have always been people out there who are willing to take a risk, legally or not. To be honest I for one am extremely grateful to people like this, for if it wasn't for this daring personality trait, we wouldn't be flying, driving cars/motorbikes, rock climbing etc. The other thing about these types, is that they rarely listen to the less-brave preaching on at them about how they are breaking the law (usually made by the less brave) about how they shouldn't be doing what they are doing, and that they are in fact breaking the law. It depresses me when I read posts by these preachers, who will no doubt respond by stating an argument about the dangers etc. As a result, many safety lessons that we can learn from the mistakes that brave are willing to make will never be learned because we vilify them into secrecy. This post is a fair example of my point. Dan
  19. Well done Lee. Many would have given up, but you are obviously a stubborn bastard and saw it through. It's one of relatively few moments in life that really stay with you. Good on you Dan
  20. If this carries on, they'll have us all turning into Daleks [youtubevideo]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z23UeJi_uJ4[/youtubevideo] Dan
  21. Not been brave enough to land on full trims out yet. Must give it a go. Although Morgy and I seem to be on the same page on this one, I do have to say that this landing technique does require more space to allow your airspeed to bleed off, especially in nil wind situations. Something I learned the hard way. Fortunately it was only long grass and not a car or a wall that I flew into.
