  1. I remember feeling like this at the beginning... However, the actual reality, for me, is that 1 to 1.5 hrs is enough with a 2 stroke motor buzzing 6 inches from your spine. I find more preferable is to take the PPG in the car to different places and have a fly around. Saves a lot of phaffing about re extra fuel etc These are not fantasting 'going places' machines because of their slow speed and limited fuel capacity. Where they really come into their own is the fact that you have an aircraft in the boot of your car, that does not require a prepared surface to laiunch from and land and can get you airborne in just a few feet. Completely unique in the aviation community Dan
  2. Well, I can certaily recommend the Costa del Sol in Southern Spain. Not too comfortable to fly between miday and 4pm, but the rest of the day, almost every day is great. The air from the sea is laminar so great to ground handle. The only problem is that you need to fly in shorts and t-shirt, as it's very warm here. Bummer! Why do I feel that I'm not making any friends Seriously though, I learned at Skyschool in October and it did the trick. Gave me enough knowledge for me to fly solo when I got home and begin the long learning curve of which I am still climbing and probably will be for a long time yet. I do believe being able to practice what you have learned very quickly after being taught decreases consolidation time considerably. I stopped posting vids because I don't think it was making me very popular amongst my PPG peers Dan
  3. http://www.amazon.co.uk/NGK-IRIDIUM-SPARK-BR9EIX-BR9E-IX/dp/B001GDFLAO Ouch! Is this definitely the right plug for the PA125? If it is, at this price I'll give them a try
  4. Between the fusion and the speedster you mean? I sold the fusion a few days ago but when I tested the speedster I compared climb rate very unscientifically and would say that the climb rate is about 20-25 % better on the speedster 28 compared to the fusion 26. I made a test run with the fusion and checked the vario. Then one with the speedster. Then made an approximation about how much faster I climbed. So all I can say for sure is that it climbs better which isn't too surprising considering that it is new, bigger and more efficient. Anyway if you normally fly high with trimmers at neutral I would suggest that you give it a try with trimmers fully in before you buy anything. Just to see for yourself if that is good enough. Any significant difference on launch and landing?
  5. Cheers Dave, and thanks for the YouTube link. 5000ft in under 10 minutes sound more like it
  6. Hi Hemberg I would be really interested to see the comparison in terms of glide ratio, climb rate etc. If you've got the time, could you do a small comparison review. Cheers Dan
  7. I wouldn't exactly say that I intend to climb to 8000ft on a regular basis, but I love taking photos at that height. The problem is, getting up there. I've done it on my PAP PA125 and my Revo2 26. I'm 85kg and it was quite a slog and a long, long time at full throttle, not just the climb, but maintaining straight and level at that altitude required full throttle. Also the Revo2 drops like a brick (500ft minute) So, I've been considering changing my motor for a bigger one. Then a friend suggested that I should look at buying an additional, larger wing. I think this is a much better idea. I would need only the most basic wing as it would only be used to get to altitude in very calm conditions. The wing would need to be hyper stable and slow, both in flight and landing (carrying expensive camera equipment). It's almost the opposite of what you'd normally want in a modern wing Any ideas? Also, would I get a better climb rate with trims pulled right in as opposed to neutral where they usually are? Thanks Dan
  8. I have the PAP PA 125 and have an identical starting proceedure. However, I have never had a problem starting it warm, on my back and it's never fouled to a stop when idling, even after 15 minutes of me phaffing about. Having said that, I would still be really interested to hear about your results of any changes that you make http://www.carbibles.com/productreviews_pulstar.html Dan

    PAP F200

Anyone fly/flown one of these? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks Dan
  10. First wing Revo2. 130ish hrs later, still on it and still really rate it's all round....ness.
  11. Just a quick review search on Amazon etc is enough to draw a conclusion that they don't live up to their claims. If it ain't broke......

    So tempting...

Sorry for sounding grumpy (kids and summer holidays ) I think because I have had 4 stroke Honda motorbikes for over 30 years and can honestly say that I have never had an 'engine out', wrongly, it makes me feel that I could rely (more) on a 4 stroke PPG. When in reality my lack of 'engine outs' is probably more attributable to the brand of engine and the amount of money they have to spend on development. I think you are exactly right in what you say about unproven products. I guess time will tell. The problem is, is that by the time they have proved themselves, electric flight will be where 4 strokes are now and we'll be having the same discussion....and there will be another power source on the horizon (probably water power)
  13. Pick out a couple of functions that you do understand and get used to it. Then one by one tackle the more advanced features. These things can do so much and half the functions you'll never use anyway. So it's best not even to look at those functions until you are completely aufait (spelling Alan K?) with the basics.
  14. I've been flying a Revo 2 now for 2 years and love it. However, I am now considering a move up to a Speedster as I feel it is the natural progression, whereas if you bought another Revo albeit a newer model, I think you would regret it very quickly and wished you'd gone to the next level ie Speedster or Fusion. So tempting...

This is not a black or white situation. I am looking at the the shades of grey, and most people would probably agree that a 4 stroke is more reliable than a 2 stroke. Everything that has been preached in the last few posts has been said a million times before. A bit boring really, but if it makes you feel better to preach it, fair enough. How many pilots out there, hand on heart, can say that they have never been in a situation (not even for 10 seconds) that, if their engine quit suddenly during that brief period, they wouldn't be in difficulty. Well, it's that 10 seconds that I am talking about. Dan

    So tempting...

Don't ask me to explain it, but I just have a growing insecurity about trusting my life to a 2 stroke. Not sure why, because I've done well over 100hrs on my PAP PA125 with no problems. What I do know is that I feel uncomfortable and believe I'd feel happier with a 4 stroke
  18. Toys R Us down the beach or what! Superb video! Well done.
  19. That's really bizarre because just tonight I've been looking at ordering this tasty looking gauge: http://www.moorespeedracing.co.uk/koso-digital-motorcycle-speedos/koso-g2-multifunction-rev-counter.html It seems to be able to display CHT and EGT and revs all at once. I've just sent them an email asking if it can be used on a PPG, although I'm pretty certain it can. Dan

    So tempting...

Pierre from PAP has offered to make for me a PAP PPG using a Bailey V5. Just need to find €7k (£5.5k) Mucho!
  21. Just downloaded this app. It's asking for login details with no further info. What am I missing and why is it so awesome for PPG pilots?
