  1. Look on facebook/ paramotor kit for sale There's a Zenith frame with lightweight harness for 1700 quid I know where there's a walkerjet too Dave
  2. Sounds good Mark. Love to try one. Which wing did they use for that record climb please ? Dave
  3. Didn't notice. Don't watch them any more. Going out there end of July 2015 to soak up Speed Week on the salt flats and fly the point of the mountain before they turn it into gravel if any one fancies a holiday. Got a good contact out there for anything flying, climbing and cycling or accommodation related
  4. Quite some flight Ben. One I've thought of and talked myself out of a few times. Your wing is fast ! Re. Landing. Sometimes frowned upon, but power landings can often tidy up what would be a scrappy landing.
  5. Hi Patrick I watched your video and noticed how your spare breakline has been knotted up to keep it tidy. I realise you may have made allowances beforehand but if not, they may be 3 inches or so short, so reducing top speed. Also, if you fly hands off and don't have good magnets or keepers they will flail around 3 inches nearer to the prop or netting. Just a heads up Dave
  6. Thanks for navigating me to the pdf Simon. Nice to hear from you Norman. I read some of that and scanned quickly through the rest. Well written I'd say. If it was about acro I'd have read the lot. I seldom fly further than I can see (30 miles out) then 30 miles across and 30 miles back is about my max. Took on a bit of fuel on Exmoor. Then I know I live south so I look for the Exe estuary (left of Dartmoor) and go for it til I recognise somewhere. Lazy I know. I need a push. But I am enjoying getting my wingovers higher and sticking the spirals for a bit longer. Definately feel a SAT coming but might leave the Heli alone for a bit. Defo won't catch me tumbling either ! Back to topic. If you are making changes, keep it simple (for people like me) and maybe shorten the history, although it's interesting to most, even me, some might want the shortest route (no pun) to achieving their objective. ps. If you're down my way for a bit of XC......I'll follow you Norm Regards Dave
  7. Hands up. For years, I've only ever taken a vario up so I know how fast I'm going up (or down) My weakest subject is navigation. I only ever fly Devon and do it all from memory, so am watching this thread with interest. Have got the Garmin 96c out of the box and given it new batteries. Will be buying a flight deck so I can get the reserve out of the engines airflow and the Garmin and Vario will then come up every time. I do xc a bit. 60 miles ish. Land out on Exmoor at my cousins. Fly across at 2000 feet AGL. Quiet there. And a great view. Cooler too, when hot on the ground. Above police, ambulance, and leissure craft but below Flybe into Exeter Dave
  8. Had a couple of electric model flyers round here tonight. One had a drone (quadcopter) I asked him how high he was allowed to fly it and he said the limit had recently been raised to 1000 feet AGL. With GPS locked on he reckoned he could confidently send it straight up out of sight in a 4 minute climb to well above the clouds and bring it back to land within 2 feet of take off point. It'll hammer round at about 50 mph too. Faster than a PPG !!! I asked him if he fancied a weekend mucking about down at EXMOUTH ! ) But seriously.....I did have a little chat with him re. mid air collisions with us. It transpired that he had 500 quids worth of machine and go pro that he didn't want to loose either
  9. Tis indeed very naughty.....and it's been done. I've seen a video on youtube I'd also be worried about the odd air rifle pellet (or more powerful) coming upwards. I've heard suggestion of it locally. One of the reasons I cruise above a thousand feet. And it gives more time to throw the laundry if things went wrong
  10. If you don't get a decent response using logic and reason, a boxing ring might entertain a few folks, I guess. You could run a book to keep count of the bets for those who like a wager. But a nice quiet kidnapping is more satisfying
  11. Bugger ! Mend well Pete Flexi cage on a forward launch with oncoming breeze ??? Or wrap a brake line round the prop (saw that once. Nasty)
  12. Hi Simon I wasn't referring to your comment at all. It was one from someone on the other side of the world. All good coz it means he probably won't be low flying on my patch, and I won't have to go knock on his door. I know you were just needing to ascertain whether an offence had been committed or not. The photo I put up might not even be the ones the police were looking for but he was less than 200 feet up and recent at Exmouth. Totally get your point about un-neccessary complaints too. Some would like to scupper your fun, but wouldn't even give their noisy strimmer a second thought
  13. It's a rare priviledge to be allowed to fly without the need for a license. I appreciate it and want to keep it that way. Whether people can get caught and fined is not the point. If the PPG crowd start to accept "Moronic" flying, the rest of us will eventually have to wear what happens. Don't be complacent please. And why the f**k do you try to defend Morons ? I don't get it.
  14. I too would like to think there was a feasible reason for this, Simon, but there are still a few pilots who don't seem to be able to resist the temptation. I feel numbers on our wings might be coming soon! I might be carrying my Garmin 96 from now on, and logging flights online somewhere, so I can absolve myself from it all. Hopefully, the word will get round, on all the forums, and this dumb behaviour will stop. If anyone knows who it is and they want to drop me a pm, please do. )
  15. Hello Simon Good to hear from you. Yes it's great to be up aloft again. I went for a pull start Minari 180 which sits nicely in a Bulldog frame. Seems to run well. Do you consider it would be worth putting a venturi shroud on the engine. I mounted the bloody reserve right in the airflow. Might move that. Guess it'll run warm the first few hours
  16. Hi guys Nice to be back in the air again. Breaking in a new motor so popped across to Exmoor and back (44 miles) last night. Lundy island looked lovely in Sunny waters. Bit slow with my thermalling wing @ 23 mph but quarter throttle and 3 litres / hour fuel use were pleasant and nothing melted ! Drop me a line if you want to meet up for a fly. Aiming to do more long distance this year. Dave
  17. I live about 15 miles west of Exeter airport. When the wind is East they approach over the farm at 3000 ft approx. Class G airspace but am continually aware of it. Right of way would mean little. Even if a pilot spotted one of us in good time to enable them to take avoiding action, at that height and proximity to the landing strip, it would probably cause a "go round" and re-approach. Anyone know what Paraffin costs these days.?
  18. I found the same with my Simonini 200 Pete. 16-8 volt Lithium Ion spun it fast. Only when they bog down on a half flat or old 12 volt battery do the brushes give up the ghost. Oil in the plug on inverted motors will stop them too. And Lithium batts don't like big resistance like that. Be carefull
  19. See if you have a local bhpa club you could join. Mine are mainly free flyers but they helped a lot with my pilot exam, with annual lectures for free, and reserve repacking. Access to hills if you fancy a quiet one without the motor. 25 quid a year is typical I believe. And the club coach course was very good
  20. Could be vacuum in the tank but at a guess I'd say they have an automatic breather in there somewhere. Engines usually get richer as you gain altitude but yours is more likely getting leaner by the sound of it. Check the Pop off pressure if you have a Walbro or other diaphram carb.
  21. I'd rather not have my arse on the floor during a heavy landing, frankly. But on the other hand , I'd rather not own a paramotor that will almost certainly snap in two due to small diameter tubing in the uprights and vibration
  22. Crickey. Thanks for the info on this wing. I'll ring Jeff in the morning. His was new and flew well. Not sure if he still has it but his mate did stop selling them.
  23. At a pilot weight of 76 kg you would be bang on the top of the weight range. Right where you want to be. It will probably lift you easily. Even better if you have a chance to fly before you buy. I think the wing is a 1-2 DHV. Also make sure this matches your capabilities
