  1. Congratulations Matt You selling logbooks now then Nigel ?
  2. I've had both and know others who have. All seem to like the Simonini
  3. Miro What do you weigh? What sort of flying do you want to do ?
  4. Miro Depends a bit on what you are trying to achieve. 3/1 will let the engine rev more than a 2-5/1 reduction. 3/1 might be better if you intend turning a big 130 prop, especially if the pitch is steep. Also, slower revving props tend to be quieter. From my own experience with the 200 Simonini, and watching my friends with their Simmos struggle to get a fuel burn of less than 6 ltrs/ hour (2.5/1 reduction) I would plump for the 3/1 if using the Simonini 200. I used to average around 4 ltrs/hour and sometimes got down to less than 3.5. Not sure if the above would apply to other motors but that's my experience with the Simmonini. Pete was right really. You didn't need to know.....but now you do Dave
  5. Hi James We are just the other side of Exeter, near the A 30. Club meetings are 1st Wednesday of each month at the Maypole inn, Thurloxton. I'll pm my number Dave
  6. Ground source heat pumps work better if the pipes are buried in swampy south facing ground. The idea is that an element of water, on the move, will stop it from freezing up, and so extract heat easier. Ten grand was quoted . That's before all the digging. Air source is cheaper and easier to install, but when you need the heat most, the air temp is very low. Thermal store might help. We went for PVC. 43 pence per unit and use most of it for free. Happy days Coupling solar water heater to my thermal store shortly
  7. Oh Gary mate. Not biting today.....just too tired...Off upstairs now to find some witch-hazel to rub on my poor bruised calve muscles .
  8. Really is daft, not to get her to wear a helmet. Muppet. As bad ,if not worse, than sending people up with no protection for their coxix.
  9. If anyone actually sees a 4 stroke (not just imagines it) putting out more than 65 kilos of thrust......please tell me. I'd love one. Practical, economical, quieter and now more reliable and lighter too. Very attractive.
  10. That bare bottom looks like it could've done with some "skiddies"
  11. Not sure Al. But he did have a fair bit of left brake applied whilst torquing to the right. On the note of life saving equipment (Gary) the best bit is probably a good attitude (and altitude) But since you mention it, I'm amazed that the guy at the end, didn't have to go back to the clown for a new Flat Top prop. Most would have (probably) He was just plain lucky. Or well informed.
  12. Always worth watching.. Laugh and learn [youtubevideo] [/youtubevideo]
  13. Hi Alan Sadly, I haven't had enough freetime to clock up a few hours on my Moster yet, so I haven't encountered any of the following. However, one or two have clocked CHT of up to 300 degrees at full power. Could be that they'll resolve that with a richer mixture, although, in the abcense of a CHT guage, I will say that my exhaust went purple, even at rich mixtures for running in the motor. A couple of guys had exhausts break. I think there is already a better one now. There is a new recoil starter spring modification, but apparently, on it's own, it wont cure a problem which has been flagged up by more than one chap. That being, if the starter handle, or any exposed length of rope, is allowed to flap around in the wind, it will wear the rachet in the starter gear, to the point where, eventually, it destroys itself, sometimes letting the rope, and handle, go back into the prop. Lovely !! I also think that, if the handle is mounted to the frame, and the engine mounts are softish, the movement of the engine would probably cause enough movement in the rope to engage the dogs enough to cause problems. Looking at using a bungee to modify mine to copy Clive's idea on the Bulldog. Dave
  14. Very good point. Free wheeling prop. I hadn't thought of that one. Would need to know which way the wing is going to fall first, or have the skills to make it go where you want, I guess
  15. @ morgy You're not wrong. Speed is your friend on approach to touchdown. If you're all out of speed though, and you get a bit of unexpected sink, right at the last moment, a good quirt of power can be really usefull.
  16. Might be safe gear, if you say so......poor example of a power landing though....looked a bit wobbly to me. And on tick-over.
  17. I see power landings are becoming more popular then New they'd catch on
  18. Thanks for your review Marko Would you buy one ? Now I'm just going to sit back and watch you get shot down Dave
  19. Dont get me wrong.....I'm a wildlife lover, but I thought a Russian would've eatan it.....
  20. No worries digidydawg.....you waste as much ink as you like. Probably better not to give him the airtime though. I too find "his" marketing over the top. But I wouldn't let it irritate me. When you're flying a wing that you enjoy and a decent motor, all those niggles seem to melt away. As distastefull as some of us find him, he didn't sell me a 34 kg machine with poor thrust/weight and fuel consumption of 9 ltrs/hour and I haven't had to go back to the clown for a new prop. I bought some gear. I like flying it. Nuf said.
  21. Well, I missed out on any teeshirt deal in 2008, Simon. But I'm not attracted by sales gimmicks anyway My rather old design, Atis 2, cores thermals beautifully and has a great feel to fly. I never said anything about staying within the weight range Richard. To keep up with a Revo one, of the same size I was nearl 40 kgs over placard weight and added trimmers. ( And it still glided better, used less fuel, and was harder to stall, and generally inspired a lot more confidence )
  22. Not saying you're wrong or anything.....bottom of page http://en.sky-cz.com/products/gliders/cima-k2/ Been flying the Sky Atis 2 for 3 years and 5 months now. Still my favourite. Not worn out yet. Not as fast as the Nucleon though. Dave
  23. And I cant change my password or stop it from being remembered. Probably me being a numpty but thought I'd ask. Ta Dave
  24. Nice one Pete. Look forward to seeing that.
