  1. When doing the weather to decide if your going to fly or not always find the best one you can and go from that. I recon you will miss a great morning of flying. SW
  2. Dan, I think your 'weather ology' has been effected by to many cosmic rays mate Its looking loverly for tomorrow SW
  3. Harnesses differ, the adventure needs tight leg straps, the Parajet needs loose leg straps, the RAD loose, and so on....... As a rule, Keep them as tight as you can without restricting your running and or getting back OUT of the harness..... If your harness is set up correctly you should not need to o anything to get into it when in the air. Hope this helps SW
  4. Hey Dan...... Have you got anthing to tell us mate? SW
  5. admin (Simon W)

    GPS

    Interested ish...... SW
  6. Congratulations Gazza, As mentioned above.... its like a drug! but welcome anyway If you have any questions now your in your 'learning zone' please dont fly in doubt, just call and ask. Welcome!
  7. Your more than welcome mate. Colin and I had a great flight in the morning yesterday but as you say it did get quite blowy here after lunch time. Morning flight was great had a great demom of how to thermal but a flock of about 100 gulls. See you soon. SW
  8. All, What a top day had bay all, once we had popped out of the bank holiday A303 traffic that is!! Mark (who is Parajets new corporate bloke or CEO or something.....) gave a very good presentation indeed so thanks for that! We have all had the Everest motor explained in detail as well as the other Parajet range, loads of information and well worth the visit. The afternoon saw some great flying weather and so we used the window to get Mike another flight (and the first flight on the synthesis ) on my parajet. An hours worth of petrol, an hours worth of flying.... he landed with not more than half a tube of petrol left!! Clive was showing his high level of wing control by flying, landing, ground handling, turning and taking off again, making it look nice and easy for the spectators. good bunch good day... (again) SW [/u]
  9. Thanks! To all who turned up for the Paramotor taster day at Lambourn. It went very well indeed and everyone had a good chunk of fun. We can welcome a new face to the club and the sport as a result and one more in 'thinking' mode to decide. This taster day has been an eye opener to me, and I am now convinced that charging for a taster day makes for bad business. If you know someone who is interesteds in the sport keep an eye on this forum for more free tasters. (the next is on the 1st of September) Thanks Colin & Dan for the help as well !!! Now guess where I am going??????? back up the field for a nice early fly in the cool air followed buy more teaching. SW
  10. The Taster day went very well indeed, In order that I keep the forum 'clean to read' I will post a seperate message in the morning. I will call you tomorrow about your Synth at the hill day (nice one) SW
  11. Mike, Great that you flew the Synth at the hill, sorry it felt 'soft' I know what you mean when you say that 100%.... once you have flown the synth with a motor it feels very very solid indeed. loosing the 30 kg as you say will a) slow the wing down and B) make it a littie soft as you say due to the decreased loading on the wing. You have gone from the top of its range to the bottom in one hit..... Just a case of getting used to it I would say. It is though a FAST WING and will struggle in scratchy conditions, (will be happier in the upper window) Great that you went for a fly
  12. Dave, Be under no illusiions, the BHPA are a Ltd Compnay who are in business to make money. Yes they are making donations to the comps (and not making money as you correctly state) Businesses run on long business plans mate. The very first Red Bull Air race in the UK was free to go to..... now it costs £80 to (watch) SW
  13. All, I will have a proof with my on Tuesday for the Club T-Shirts, assuming that they are as good as described 3-4 days later I will have the remaining 49. I opted for the better quality T's with the better quality print and so this is reflected in the cost which is now £12 per T-shirt. They are the posh ones from the Fruit of the Loom. So before next weekend the T-shirts will be here ready for collection. SW Sizes, XL x 8 L x 22 M x 15 S x 5
  14. Thanks for posting the pics Norman, It is very interesting to see how quickly it all happens..... (see movement of second glider to see time elapsed) This is not just bigging up Dudek for the sake of it but one of the things I love about the Synth and the ReAction is that the magnets for the brakes are HUGE and pull the brakes out of your fingers with a nice solid 'snap' into place. WAY WAY better than weeker versions and poppers. It is VITAL that you 'SEE' your brakes go back on to the dock BEFORE letting go of them. It is a very easy one to become complacent with but the sad pictures here should give a quick kick up the a**e to anyone who has reached complacency point. SW
  15. Meeting at the Ridgeway carpark at 0900hrs. Deciding who is driving and not, Slim has a 7 seater and Clive has his car which I think will do it for all, but if not we can take another car. The drive will take about an hour and we will be at the workshop for an 1.5 to 2 hours. We nned to be out of the workshop at 1200hrs at the latest. We will be back at the ridgeway carpark for 13:00 13:30 hrs for some flying I hope. SW
  16. Remind him that I have a free taster day on Sunday as well that he could attend SW
  17. Just in case of a mass turn out we will meet up at the Ridgeway Carpark at 0900. If you are driving as well I think I will leave the car here and get a lift with Clive or you. There is no point in everyone taking a car. Giles is kicking the paint shop up the arse to get your frame done in time......Fingers Xed mate
  18. Dan, It will be good to see you back again. (Note, we are visiting Parajet on Saturday and wont be back until 2/3 ish.) ps, I thought after, in the alps they do lay out carpet LOLOL So wait until you are taking off in Wales!!! (they dont have carpet) SW
  19. "The site assesment was interesting, a massive stubble field (not brilliant to build walls), loads of big trees at one end to induce rotor and turbulence plus plenty of spectators to avoid when starting the motor." LOL Dan great blog mate except for the above.... the field is 120 acres big for crying out loud LOL move away from the 'Small' clump of trees You will want a flipping carpet next!! Wait until your flying in the alps SW
  20. All, Now I have had this helmet for a while.... I have had to change the flimsey metel arms that hold the earcups on (that I have also had to change) I found that they just kept falling off, I have re-made the thing from scratch and the only part that is still OEM is the helmet. My thoughts...... OK if you are happy to accept that it is (without doubt) cheep tat, that may well get you through. SW
  21. All, Giles needs to have left his workshop by 1200 hrs so we will be leaving Lambourn at 0900 sharp. As it stands we will need 2 cars to get everyone in. (this may end up as 3) I am happy to drive of course and I am sure the misses will let me use her car. Anyone else happy to drive? SW

    More stuff.

Stuart, I have got one here yes but only becasue I used one (smaller) for my free flying. The Reserve will come with deployment bag for front mounting and the Y Bridle and fittings. The point you raised about the decent rate is what I looked for the most out of the reserves when I was A) buying my own and B) advising to others to do the same. The Gin Reserve has the BEST decent rate of all of the current market options. The decent rate is calculated at the reserves max loading of 130kg. Hope this helps Nice to see your back in front of a PC again Stuart all this holiday stuff is no good for you, you know!
  23. Norman, I am fairly well known for arguing that the act of low flying (for whatever reason) is s stupid one. As you know I teach from day 1 to take off and get away from the ground. Nor do I teach Powered landings as in my flying time have NEVER had to use one and just dont like the idea of a spinning prop when landing (or near the ground, I remember a story in Skywimgs a few years ago where a Paramotor was doing this stupid foot dragging on a beach with people on and he drifted off to a side and his prop cut borth brests off the girl who was laying there and most of her face). I agree that at the moment Paramotoring is heading in a (get your quick fix here) direction and dont like it one bit. I think that the clover leaf is the worst move and does not show pilot skill as it is defended as doing, (quite the opposite in my opinion) what scares me is that the BHPA and the BMAA promote the competitions where this stupid low level acrobatic stuff takes place and they account for a large chunk of pilots in the UK and as you say are feeding the magazines with the pictures. I can think of no other reason to carry out low level acro than for 'showing off to others around you' Which in the BHPA handbook is the reason (they say) that is likely to cause an accident the most on a paramotor/ Paraglider. Paramotoring is not a spectator sport, both of the parties above are trying to make it such for the increased income to be had from it. (Dont forget the BHPA is a Ltd company!!) This is why people are doing it. To the people who do do it...... please stay safe! Come on a nice long XC flight with us and see what flying a Paramotor is all about. SW
