  1. Hi Mike, A bit of a shock receiving the photo, but I do stick to the airlaws so no issues on that front. Due to my internet posts, it's quite easy to find me in "the Google" after "paramotor clent" and then "norbertflyer" for the email address, as I subsequently tried. Are you around for some flapping at all soon, subject to your rock roady lifestyle? Richard
  2. Can you believe someone spotted me preparing to land, took a photo and then tracked me down and sent the photo to me? We're not invisible, nor can we hide from any misdemeanors, despite us not having G- numbers on our wings. Richard
  3. Looked like a great day was had by all! Ressemblait à une grande journée s'est bien amusé! Richard
  4. Sharp and punchy thermals early on, but by the third flight they had become quite round and gentle. Motor yet again faultless and easy reverse launches and landings in the 7-9mph breeze. Base was only 2800ft asl early on, but had risen to 3,400 mid afternoon as the sky gradually clouded over. Early evening flight met up with the Virgin 16 Balloon and G-CEKS was out again. I went to within 2km of St John's (6pm) but didn't see anyone else up from Powick. Police chopper 'chased me' via Kidderminster later on. Top ten flying day for 2011. Richard
  5. There won't be a lot of difference between a modern EN class of wing for the same weight/wing area. Force/Fusion/Speedster (ENC) will all be roughly the same speed/glide. The only way to add more speed would be to go down a size or two or go to an END wing. The only way to increase glide at trim is to go up a class of wing (END), or use a PG wing. Having said that, I can imagine glide at speed (Full bar/Full trimmers) to be quite variable on a PPG wing - possibly as poor as 2:1, hence why a lot of power is required to stay in level flight. Richard
  6. You must consider all up weights and wing areas before comparing average top speeds of any ENC wing. Fuel consumption and noise are a factor on most wings at speed, if they're able to maintain height. 20 glide points are knocked off a wing by having a motor strapped to your back. Richard 32 sqm Delta, full bar, level flight, 140kg, ave 55kph, 26 sqm version, 140kg, ave 61kph. (Glide 7.5:1)
  7. There have been paramotor scammers on Gumtree, also providing bogus Scottish addresses, refusing to allow physical viewing due to a variety of excuses, offering a great deal that sounds too good to be true, and they always are.... Richard
  8. Weather 'windows' has been the name of the game this year. I've not seen any flying windows, but I've stolen a few in my time. Everytime I 'had to visit' the local Police station, they said I was becoming a real pain...
  9. Jock, I'd be tempted to run it on your back for 1/2 hour or so. Give you a bit of confidence that the early 'cobwebs' have been blown away and you're not going to end up on the deck, just the other side of the Severn from Powick. Richard
  10. I think his has been done a few times previously, but never caught on. I think Gerald Williams did it in the mid 90's (Yorkshire/Peaks/Derbyshire). Richard
  11. Glad you're ok Alan, reminds me of free flying the Malverns in the last century, soaring way out in front of the hills about 1000ft ATO when an RAF Hercules/Belfast flew underneath us....... This was in the days when they could afford to fly these things. Never had anything like what you encountered. Other than a nosey private helicopter over Clent eventually forcing me to land for safety reasons..... Richard
  12. Similar pattern, enjoying the summer thermals can't be beaten! The extra evening flying time in the summer makes winter flying hours second best. Richard
  13. 4x4 lifts from Lee. Farmer Jac only allows 4x4 on the track up to the top due to wear limitations. We had spoken earlier yesterday about it being just ttb's from CM, hence my trip to Gyrn Molfre. I did think eariler on, that there might be a chance of catching a thermal, before it clouded over, but not in our neck of the woods. Glad you had some good exercise also. I have some video from yesterday, I'll shove it on Youtube later. Richard
  14. Free flying Gyrn Moelfre worked very well. arrived about 2pm, the hill started working from 3pm (bang on forecast). Lovely few hours of afternoon/evening soaring around one of the most picturesque flying locations we have. Only 450ft ATO max and no thermals, but an excellent days flapping and well worth the 90 minute car journey. Richard
  15. Will try Gyrn Moelfre tomorrow for a change. See if I can get some height & have a boat around free flying. Weekend looks poor for 'chair-o-plane' activities... Richard
  16. Sorry to hear about the motor Jock. Looks as if you'll miss Thursdays gap in the weather, unless you can get the powered HG in the air? Richard ps - Oludeniz was excellent, although thermals were only up to 8,450ft!
  17. Prop wash can be quite unnerving for a PGer, just be concious of your 500ft rule whilst flying near there and you'll have no bother from them. Richard ps - Mark Dann at www.BeyondExtreme.co.uk is one of your best bets for some PG training.
  18. Have a good one Phil. Not been to Coupe Icare since 2000, Say hello to Didier at 'Air et Aventure' (Lumbin) for me (my paramotor manufacturer in 97). I reckon you'll love it there, especially if the weather is flyable. Careful if you go for the spot landing with those occasionally strong valley winds, I seem to remember my last attempt was nearly 600m away....... Richard
  19. You'll have the Malvern Hang Glider Club Anti-Paramotor Police after you..... Great afternoons flying again with a few small thermals - best ever month of flying for me. Phil - I went over to Tardebigge, but didn't see you up around 330-5pm. Richard
  20. OK Jock, I'll telephone you tomorrow morning. Richard ps - 100.2 hours since January on the Delta! pps - I'm tree hugging with the old Aspen2 in Olu Deniz next week, so will have to miss.
  21. Just got this email from the bhpa: TO ALL PG POWER PILOTS Please use the link below to read Safety Notice No.32 recently issued by the FSC Chairman. http://bhpa.co.uk/pdf/safety_notices/sn032.082011.pdf Jennifer Burdett Office Manager British Hang Gliding & Paragliding Association 8 Merus Court, Meridian Business Park, Leicester, LE19 1RJ Tel. 0116 289 4316 www.bhpa.co.uk British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association Limited. 22. Could just see it in the distance from Birdsgreen around 630pm. Richard
  23. I've just returned from a smooth (if dull) days flapping around North Worces/South Staffs area - not a thermal in sight.... and I had to wear the winter suit! 13deg at 1200asl 7pm tonight.... I'm game for a flap, but need to know what you fancy doing. If it's to a be just a quick flap around the Powick field, I'll stay local. If you want to make a day of it (say 12pm - 7pm), then I'll pop down and join you. cheers, Richard
  24. His airlaw rules are a lot different to the ones I follow.... Richard
  25. PLEASE DO NOT FLY YOUR PARAMOTOR OVER WOOLACOMBE http://www.northdevon.madasafish.com/vi ... sitors.htm The site resides in a very sensitive area and it could put pressure on the club to impose restrictions for at least the free flyers amongst us, or even ban the use of paragliders from flying off the hill. Please respect their free flying site, there are plenty of other beautiful parts of the coast to fly over without upsetting the Wooly locals who have made it very explicit on their website. Please speak with their sites officer in first instance (in the above link). Richard
