  1. Just out of interest, where was the wind from when this happened? Tj.
  2. Fair play for letting us know though Alan. Luke you say, hopefully a good reminder for pre-flights. Tj.
  3. All this talk of hats has put me off my blog! So, at the age of 5 I user to run to the back doors to watch planes at less than 500 ft on short finals to Farnborough. The massive Antonov, the first migs "welcome to UK airspace" and concorde who used to blow our roof tiles! I always fancied the military (dirty buggers) since my best mates dad was a red top captain. I just liked the hat! For my 21st birthday the girlfriend of the time bought me a flying lesson and I've always loved flying to & from holidays! I was also massively involved with st. Amjohnbulance, which I loved. So, fast forward a good 20 years or so and there's me on my way to a TA training night from kings x to wolverhampton. I looked at the mag I'd swipe from the first class & there's a pic of some dude paramotoring. "the cheapest form of powered flight" That's for me! So, picture me, sat at home with a busted ankle after standing on a beer bottle when I should have been in Kenya with the regular army. Michael Burke pops up on 999 on a RAF SAR helo. Military, medical and flying! I joined the RAF as a trainee crewman a few years later...let's just say I wasn't a natural! More flying in my next post... Ttfn, Tj.
  4. You have the opportunity to laugh at my hat 12/12 as its officially an 'all weather hat', yeehaa! Tj.
  5. I won't laugh at his, if he doesn't laugh at mine!
  6. Now I can get hold of kit thanks to the Ppg 100 club, It's about time I started training! What tips can you give me for the first few sessions? Tj.
  7. How do you talk to your tower? Quick phone call first or by vhf? Tj.
  8. Just out of interest, how fast can a RIB go? Tj.
  9. Straight of the white cliffs I reckon! Tj.
  10. Cross channel flight..do you reckon I'd be ok to do that on a first flight!? Cracking post flight report...can't wait to get going now! Tj.
  11. I am looking forward to doing THAT! Tj. On the cusp!
  12. I can see the attraction alright. It's the same thing that any adventure-sportist craves - that extra rush. Tell me you've not been scared witless once in your life, driving, flying, climbing a tree or playing knock down ginger. Like Cannibal says, "we do it for the jazz man, do it for the jazz" However, compare the nice flat and benign looking conditions of the kite surfing and the conditions in the others, blustery, high sea state or added trike weight. the French man we know is 'pretty good', the others we don't. Risk, yes please bring it on...as long as it is tempered with plenty, plenty experience and a good old E U standard risk assessment. And don't rely on there being anyone to help if it goes Pete Tong. Tj. Train hard, fly easy.
  13. He was right in his post dunk ramble..."that was insane". I think he's right. Tj.
  14. Have got happy feet with anticipation! Tj.
  15. Perhaps sheep herding could be added to the PULSAR tasking list! *oh no, not the PULSAR idea again!* Still thinking! Tj.
  16. Nice one if you have a local contact. The stuff above gives you national coverage. There's a handy checklist at the back of safety sense leaflet 18 if you google that. It's not just the chinnys from Odiham, you've got pumas & merlin from Benson, lynx & those other army ones (can't remember what they are if they're even still in use!) From the air corps in the plain. Then don't forget the griffin & squirrels from Shropshire and the hercy birds...! using these numbers will keep them all know. At the same time if you just fancy a spontaneous blat then you'll probably miss their briefs anyway and a good lookout is the thing that will save you! That's the beauty of the sport! Hurry up flying opportunity! Tj.
  17. NATS UK AERONAUTICAL INFORMATION CIRCULAR, low flying notifications. There's an 0800 number & an email address. Can't cut & paste on this means but a v. Simple Google search should find it. All mil flying have a pre-flight brief about known low level flying. LET THEM KNOW! SAR also get similar updates, so the coast flying guys might also want to consider this! Hope this is handy. Tj.
  18. Hi guys, Is the PCOM in full use yet, as things seem to have gone quiet. Cheers, Tj.
  19. Simon got in before I could! You also know where to go if he cocks it up. He doesn't seem the type that would though! Tj.
  20. tj

    fatigue research.

desperate for paras although best to stay where you are. Defo at the moment. Unfortunately management not being to careful with peeps best interests/lives. Hence research...
  21. I was going to suggest that! If I ever drop/lose/let something ping off, I never move anything in the vain hope that it Will be immediately obvious. Usually its in a different room and my poor brain has forgotten that I went to the kitchen for a sandwich/the pkayroom to see what my little scamp's up to! Good excuse for a tidy though! Tj.
