  1. In the course of regular business I often go into this large county near liverpool. I enter via the A48 and exit over the bridge. It's a bit steep to ask for payment to enter the county!! Tj
  2. Hi Guys, Some fairly sober reporting here, http://www.michaelyon-online.com/the-ko ... effect.htm I was wondering if anyone has seen this on a paramotor? Tj

    Strobe necessity.

Also quite a few police helos are black and yellow. We were forever being mistaken for them! Google 'Sixty Sqn RAF'. You'll note the aircraft identifiers are letters. Spelling 'Sixty Rule'! Only the RAF... Tj

    Strobe necessity.

Helimed and military helicopters are what would scare me most, as they can pop up from nowhere (with no warning if you're radio free) and mil helos fly at 50ft. I'd want to do everything I could to be seen!
  5. My missus says that take off's "Not quite Heathrow"!
  6. Hi All, I was wondering if strobes are a necessity? I've seen quite a few movies and it seems hardly anyone ever has strobes activated & I wondered why this was. Is it anything to do with aircraft light regs? I would have thought that anything that increases conspicuity would be an advantage. Thoughts...? Tj
  7. One of my old RAF instructors told me a great story when he was a SAR mate. They were transitting back to base when they heard 'heeeeeelp' on 121.5. It carries on something like this. GA: Heeeeeelp ATC: Callsign calling on 121.5 state the nature of the assistance required. GA: I'm stuck. ATC: unknown callsign how are you stuck? GA: I can't turn over. ATC: Are you upside down? GA: Yes. Eventually the poor bloke in the light aircraft was righted and soon landed at the nearest airfield. The prospect of getting help quickly ensure my yes vote! Tj
  8. Hi, Here's what I did when I lost my mic foam when leaning out of a helicopter. Get a rectangular piece of foam (£ 'k all if you know where to look). Get a rubber band. Fold the foam over the mic boom. Attach securely with rubber band. (Red rubber bands available for nowt if you come to ours. Bloody post man drops them on our front garden!) Tj
  9. Hi,if you're still planning on flying tonight I might stick my nose in for a look. Dont currently fly though keen to see some kit and chat to some geezers. Tj
  10. I'll bet you're not working now though eh Pete? Lucky I'm ready in Gloucester in case your armchair collapses or your telly explodes in the Forest!! Having said that, 1 job in 2.5 hours isn't exactly busy. Beats working for a living though! Tj Ambulance practitioner Wannabe Paramotor SAR winchman(!)
  11. I'd like to register for 2011. I would have volunteered for ground support except spring next year I'll be right at the end of my paramedic course. Tj
  12. Don't forget that if you are a 'little out of the way' you might need food and water. I'm planning on taking a small 'go bag' for stopping with everytime I fly. Nuts, and fruit flakes are good for longer term energy and chocolate is great as a 'pick me up'. a small bottle of water and some puritabs (for sterilising stream water) with a foldable water container will see you OK. An old saying springs to mind - plan for the worst, hope for the best! Old habits die hard!
  13. Have just tumbled across your blog and this, combined with a message from Simon to "just go for it" has convinced me of the need to book my training. Now it's just a case of convincing the missus - anyone any ideas!?

    LEG STRAPS!!!

Or, to quote the RAF, "Be Alert, we're short of Lerts in this county."
  15. Hi, Knowing nothing about engines I can't be any help whatsoever. Sorry! However, I was wondering where one might go to be edumacated about 2 stroke engines to be able to 'do it yourself' in the field/home/a friendly hangar where you may be based. Cheers. Tj
  16. Hi, I'm dead jealous asI was hoping to get toLambourn today. Unfortunately a list of jobs as long as my arm was presented to me by the senior ops officer and I couldn't make it. Better luck next time & I'm looking forward to meeting all another time! Tj
  17. Thanks Simon for your input. That now leaves me in a dilemma!
  18. Once I'm flying I'll volunteer as the novice tester!
  19. That's the problem with watching paramotor vids in a 'quiet' canteen with beefy coppers glowering at you. (I'm not one, I just use their canteen!) I can see how engine failure might cause a problem at low speed. I guess tere's a few things that could cause this. Anyone want to throw in some ideas, so I can avoid this type of thing when I start? Cheers guys! Tj
  20. When I get a wing I want a union flag one too!!
  21. Whilst looking for paramotor instructors I came across the 'Paramotor Pirates'. Has anyone heard of them and can you reccomend them to me? They sound very good value for money and their CFIs reasons sound very laudible. Comments invited... TTFN Tj
