  1. A good bit of advice I was given once goes something like, 'don't sell anything you really love when kids come along. It's harder to buy it again and most likely you won't be able to get back into it'! We've just had our first ruggy and my drum kit and dj kit are staying safely stored! Congrats on the little one and hope you're decision works for you!! tTj
  2. I'd have to agree. While I'm not able to start training at the moment, the syllabus and effort that has gone into it indicate a top route in. As soon as I've finished my current work project I'll be over to Lambourne (or 'West of the River Severn'!) to get trained up. Wave if you see me below! Tj
  3. Nice one, I wasn't sure how far away you were but it must have been you. Pretty far away, you were about a thumb size wise but could hear the motor just about. We followed you for a bit along the road from Seaton! Tj
  4. My Missus didn't think paramotors actually existed until we saw someone lucky enough not to be at work and flying near the donkey sanctuary today! Looks like you were doing some XC, as there was nary a turn to be seen. Nice one for verifying my interest (near obsession) with entering this hobby and hope we seeyou again this week!! Tj
  5. Would she be able to bring her http://www.paramotorclub.org/catalog/pr ... 5r025mnsj2 to assist with take off?! Tj
  6. Hi Nikki, I just googled 'amateur sports associations uk', to see what came up. The first was http://www.ara-rowing.org/ the site for the amateur rowing association. Simple navigation to me to their training page. There are ways of learning to row, for which the coaches are paid, insurance is compulsory for them and their students and for which there is a recognised syllabus. There are no 'proffessionals' involved. It is however an olympic sport in which Great Britain excels. The Paramotor club is offering a similar standard of service (As yet it's not an olympic sport, however the current worldchampion Michel carnet is represented on the British team at the world championships). Does this explain how 'professional' the service is that's being offered by the oly nationwide organisation solely representing this sport? Any other questions gladlyanswered as therearea goodfew years of flying experience out there. me, I've only got common sense to go by! Take care, Tj

    Jet Engine Paramotor.

Exactly, like the bombadier in the 'be the best' advert that says he's a spy plane pilot, when he flys the recce uav! If you fly both anyway I guess you don't need to add anything what chatting to the ladies. Simon, I suggest you apply here - http://www.eccentricclub.co.uk/ I have a friend who may be able to assist!!
  8. I MAY be interested, although may have to wait until december/January to start. Keep me in the loop. Have just found out about my para course. When in uni ++ hard work, but now less uni time - whoop whoop!! Tj

    Jet Engine Paramotor.

And then say, "I'm a jet pilot" to whoever you're talking to!! (OK you are anyway but for us mere mortals!!) Tj
  10. Hey, Surrey dad, That's exactly what I did and I can't tear myself away now! I don't think you'll be dissapointed. Tj
  11. You would have thought he would have wanted to keep that quiet! not plaster it around LOL SW This place could do with some class, I was getting lonely!
  12. Hi Guys, As far as I can see, there are two opposing views here that aren't going to be reconciled. The PMC says that they would like to instruct members of the public in flying PPG, which they will do via a manual that says specifically how they do this. The people that carry out this instruction will have had some extra instruction (in both flying and how to instruct) based on the experiences of an organisation that has taught for 'some time'. This has meant that insurance for the instructors is a reasonable cost. The insurance is in place in case something untoward happens and someone takes the PMC to court (where what a reasonable man says goes, or that's the theory). This was done on the advice of a legal expert (who the PMC choose not to name). Seems fair enough. Leo says that he doesn't see the point in having insurance as anyone can get it regardless of how they decide to train members of the public. Should he go down the instruction route he wouldn't bother with it. Again fair enough, his view. Who would be more likely to end up in trouble with the court should something go wrong? The group/person that couldn't show a reasonable man that they had taken every precaution they could think of when instructing members of the public. Who would end up instructing more people man for man - those that people feel safest with should things end up in court. This time I'm with the PMC - safety first. Having said that, it's a shame that Leo won't be sharing his 'alternative' views anymore(!). I quite enjoy having a quiet chuckle as I read them... Toodle Pip, Tj
  13. Perhaps Simon's ahead ofme on this one? http://www.paramotorclub.org/catalog/pr ... vaguvmk833 Tj
  14. OK, so I got back to the missus and explained the whole 'foot launched' bit which she can see the sense of. However, if we started talking about a tandem rig and the passenger was on the off road skateboard and the pilot was 'foot launched' (ie pushing the passenger) would that be legal? I just don't think she's that keen on the whole running thing! Tj
  15. Has anyone seen these - or indeed used them for paramotoring? http://www.motoguide.com/tork_skull_mic.htm Tj
  16. Hi, Unfortunately I can't see this vid/pic. All I get is a tiny icon in the top left corner. Any ideas? Cheers, Tj
  17. There was a bloke once, who was proper into his tractors. He could tell the difference between a ford and a Massey ferguson just by the engine noise. He had tractor posters up round his house and a collection of priceless model tractors he'd loving ly collected. Well, his missus got fed up with all the tractor related activity, and one day, on returning from work (after stopping to talk to a couple of local farmers (about their tractors) he found her and all his tractor related paraphenalia gone. He was gutted. He really missed his tractors and went into a huge depression. After time he pulled out of it and he became interested in buses. One day he was on his local 52, you know, the one that goes from the church, in town, when the engine gave an almighty bang and the bus filled up with smoke. This bloke takes a massive breath in and inhales all the smoke, rushes to the door, opens it and blows all the smoke away. The other passengers went crazy, "How did you do that?" they all wanted to know. "Easy" was his reply. "I'm an extractor fan". Geddit! Tj
  18. Sorry about the divert there. Couldn't help myself. One of the things that attracts me to the PMC is the level of friendliness here, whilst maintaining a professional ethos. First of all have fun, (let's make sure its safe fun). I also read another forum (Gosh!) and they seem a little on the 'dry side'. Here I feel the fun factor is as important as the hobby. Whilst there is room for the techies, it's easier to skip over that kind of post if you want to. The welcome I had at the flagpole the other day was great (when I was eventually able to make it) and being shown some kit up close and personal is a great spur for me to train. The biggest bit of encouragement is the fact that there is a recognised pathway to progress. Start training, have some fun near home, do some more training, have some fun further away. Do some more training, help other people to have fun on the ground, do a bit more training further away still and help people have more fun in the air. The thinking behind this means that we can keep the hobby fun and deregulated. I for one can't wait for work to unleash me so I can train using the prospectus and get airborne again! Tj
  19. Hi, This is a slightly random question. Would it be legal to launch using an all terrain skateboard? Obviously trikes and quads are a no no as you're on the wheels as you lift. However, if you're skating with one leg on the ground as you lift, would it make a difference? I ask as my Mrs doesn't fancy the launch process as is, and would like to know if there's any assistance that could be used. Answers on the poll please!!! All the best, Toodle Pip, Tj
  20. Sorry Pete, forgot if you go the wrong way out the garden you're there!
