  1. I took off at 8.00 pm and it was still as rough as hell. At 8.45 I was at 1500 feet over my LZ and going backwards with trims in!
  2. I am just 122 Kg all up weight, at my heaviest, on a 28 m wing with max loading of 160 Kg. I like slow, it helps with my knackered back. I think the lighter wing loading means I go slower. I could prob use a 24 m wing (max 120 Kg), or a 26 m (max 140 Kg).
  3. I use between 4.25 and 4.5 litre per hour. Uses more if full trims out and speedbar being used. Your weight will affect this, I'm 92 Kg.
  4. That should work. They have done all the brush cutters and chainsaws...the ones you usually throw away after a few years use!
  5. I have R2 in size 28. Love it. I have flown in very windy conditions and in mid day thermals. I have never seen the wing so much as tuck a tip in,
  6. Reply from Walbro, when I tried to buy a spiral diaphragm kit..... "At this time the WB series have not been calibrated to utilize the Spiral Diaphragm Assy yet"
  7. I am guessing it is magnesium alloy? There were results published in 2015 saying the latest Mg alloy was lighter than Al alloy but as strong as Ti.
  8. There was a very long discussion of this problem on the FB Paramotor group. Every conceivable method of cleaning was discussed! I think the preferred answers were (after don't get wet sand/salt on it) gentle hand wash with cloth using water only, no soaps.
  9. I hope not. Need to keep those second hand prices high - so I can upgrade to a Tornado!
  10. The thing with doing ground handling training as part of a combined course (whether UK or abroad) is that you also do all the other training required prior to first flight at the same time. Lots of theory, learning about the machine, trial fitting/balance, talk throughs of how the instructor will instruct over the radio etc. To be really up to speed and ready for first flight, I would not have wanted to do this many weeks or months before. I think it benefits having all this very fresh in your head. Ground handling was 2 to 3 days and about 3 one hours slots each day. The rest of the time was filled with learning all those other things!
  11. I've just repaired a few stone dints on one of my props. To balance it I thought I would give my RC model aeroplane prop balancer a go. I turned a shaft to suit my Nitro props and it works brilliantly. Both props were out by "one small piece of tape". You can see me sticking a bit of tape on until I found the balance point.
  12. I did 2 weeks with Skyschool (when they were in Spain). Covered full syllabus and did 15 flights - so came home with APPI Pilot rating.
  13. I didn't calculate it, but you are right. I was just guessing that for Nitro vs Nitro XL should be around 10 kg thrust difference. I didn't think this would be that noticeable . I have just tried putting the figures in a thrust calculator and calculated the difference....and got 63 Kg vs 78 Kg! We would probably notice that! Figures could both be higher as you have to make some assumptions when doing calcs. I used the same assumptions for both These figures are the in flight difference. On the ground the bigger prop does less well (but should still be higher) as it requires the moving airflow.
  14. Great. I like this picture as it shows the rules for each type of airspace as well....
  15. With the same engine, maximum thrust should not be much different. Certainly not different enough to notice.
  16. At lunch yesterday I was sat next to the load master for that very plane. I asked him about the 500 foot rule and he said "we are military". He did ad they that they avoid the towns and me! Well done with your guess. He said 200 to 250.
