Hi Jamie. Since my days of learning I have been of the opinion that the best ground handling wing to learn with is indeed a similar or exact wing to the one that you'll end up flying with. My thoughts behind that are that you learn from the word go how it behaves in the air and how it reacts to your inputs. I myself to the contrary though did at first use a wing I had bought from an auction site but found that I fought and struggled to keep it airborne due to its crispiness being long-since-gone. Under advice I bit the bullet and purchased my current wing and almost immediately I seemed to get on a whole lot better with the learning process. (possible coincidence) It is of course a matter of pounds shillings and pence and not everyone can afford to do it this way and are busy saving in the meantime. An older wing is indeed good for learning about the risers etc and what they all do, but its my belief that beyond that it could hinder your progress. I am sure there will be other pilots coming forwards to give you lots of valuable advice.

Mine are locked with aircraft grade s/s doubled up. you could use tiny zippers but wire is deffo best.

hi ya Cas, it was an 'out of the ordinary' sunset, I can honestly say I have never seen one as stunning. He sent me some great vids of you lot flying too. This sport is so good at pulling people together and sharing memories. All hail also to PMC!!

I cant say that I wasnt tempted to put down and go and have a chat but, I would have been faced with a possible angry mob and also I would have had a tricky exit strategy as I am sure they would have been anything but willing to allow me an unhindered take off. I am a SGC owner myself so of course have to play things very carefully so as not to upset plod....and also I wouldnt want to appear to be as bad as Mr farmer.

Thanks guys. Our group along with our local microlite school have used this field for 8 years or more. Sure there has been the occasional moan from a few neighbours which we have found middle ground but never have we had anything fired at us. Some farmers seem to be stuck in the 50's. GIT ORF MOY LAAAAAAND. I am sure the police will sort it. Luckily for him none of us were filming as it was early in the flight

It is beyond belief what some people will do before their brain kicks in. On Thursday of this week in the evening myself and a couple of friends decided we would have a flight to round off the day. So we got kitted up and lined up to take off. I was first up and circled in the agreed area and waited for the other two pilots to join up before heading out. Now I will skip forwards just a little. There is a large farm to the southwest of our takeoff field who know have issue with paramotors flying in this area, although they have never approached us directly to discuss the matter but they have circulated the word in such a way which has got back to us. Early in the spring they mowed the words F**K OFF in very large letters at the end of the field adjacent to our boundary-this is only visible from the air. So back to the flight. As we grouped up at a thousand feet and headed out I saw a thin trail of smoke from the floor and I guess at 400 feet it burst and looked like a palm tree kind of thing. I was probably 500 feet across from the front of the farm and the other pilot was i'm guessing somewhere about the same distance behind the farm. It seems that someone on the ground in the farmyard had launched an aerial firework in our general direction, I could see people standing around on the ground near the point where the smoke trail had started from. I am in the process of reporting this to the BHPA and also it has been reported to the police who did seem quite interested in the matter and will certainly be looking into it further. I cannot imagine how somebody in this day and age when it is common knowledge that you cannot fly drones near aircraft, shine lasers at aircraft or suchlike think that its ok to launch fireworks at a PPG. My thought are that they dont really see us as aircraft in the truest sense of the word so think hey -I will just launch a rocket to show them my displeasure. The matter has infuriated me massively for lots of reasons; the person concerned has little or no idea of the altitude capabilities of said firework, has no idea of how the firework will behave once the fuse is lit, and had no idea of our height in relation to the fireworks capabilities. I am under no illusion as to weather they knew I was in the area as I had circled for 5 minutes while waiting for my fellow pilots to join up so it was 100% a purposeful act. I would love to hear other pilots views on this please. Dave. I am looking at the possibility of adding a low fuel warning L.E.D system to my motor. I don't really fancy the whole fuel gauge thing as it looks like too much Ag. There was an article here posted years ago from a guy who had lights to warn of low fuel but this seemed to suggest he had an electric start and so a battery for a power source. I have no such luxury as I am a pull start kinda guy. Does anyone have some definitive ideas and diagrams etc please. Also where would be the best place to mount them? Frosty.

oh my god thats terrible. such a long spell of great weather and then the biggest get together of the year gets trashed... I hope that damage costs are not too high for those concerned.

You can lay any laws down you wish but you will never rule out those who flagrantly break the law. A little bit like telling someone to 'keep out of no fly zones' only for them to get completely ignored/acknowledged, do you agree Simon?

I thought I would re-ignite this little corner of the site as it seems to have gone stale. We are a large group of paramotor pilots and trainees respectively who fly in and around the South eastern corner of Kent. We are a very welcoming bunch and are always ready and happy to accept new folk into our throngs. If you are a beginner or a qualified pilot it doesn't matter- if you would like to join us and gain access to some truly superb flying sites then inbox me or add to this thread. We believe sharing is caring too, we share our knowledge of available fields and are always over the moon when a new groupie introduces us to a new portion of the green and pleasant land. Sharing is caring but don't tell the wife.

I intend to rock up on Thursday so would be available to help set up whatever you need, I am an expert in putting up rope fences and chopping logs.

Further to my earlier post, the outcome was that the guy concerned lost one of his index fingers in the accident.

O.K so a quick story to add to this thread. A guy who was a newbie within our group bought a wing and a bit later on a motor too. He was getting on fairly well with his ground handling stuff but suddenly he just faded off (as some do) so we thought little more of it. A few days back an ad appeared on our whatsapp page for some gear up for sale, namely a wing and a motor (the makes and models are not information I have.(he had decided flight was not for him) A couple of guys decided to go over to view the items so duly made arrangements. Upon arrival they were greeted with ambulances and also the guys father saying it was not a good time to call as there had been an accident and his son was hurt. Luckily one of the guys is a doctor so persuaded the father to let him in as he could possibly provide some valuable help. His son had decided to run the engine up to make sure it was o.k. he ran it up on the floor without getting into the harness, it spun up to full throttle immediately and the spinning prop did it's stuff. He received lacerations to both arms and one finger was left hanging by a thread and had no certain future. These things are man sized food blenders and will happily scoff the unaware.

I run my classic on the same ratio as yourself and mine has no oily issues. You have that bit right anyway . Could it be that you are running it too rich on the jetting? the black deposits you speak of could be too much oil being consumed? There is a moster classic thread here somewhere so I would head there for full jet set up info.

I have just received magically through the wonders of the modern mail system, (one month delivery) one of those fly-cam things from Russia, I know I know lol. Does anyone have any experience of these and can give me some helpful hints before I start towing it around the skies in ernest of this corner of England.

I, like a good many others am completely and utterly dismayed by the lack of any apparent intention by the U.S government to do anything about the current situation concerning firearms. In Blighty in 1996 handguns were banned in the wake of the Dunblane school massacre and since then there has been only one 'spree killing' so it must work. I personally was under the impression that ALL Americans were pro guns and all had this inbuilt mad want to own as many guns as their measly dollars would allow them to buy. So, I was surprised to see on the T.V mass anti gun demonstrations by hundreds of thousands of U.S citizens all across America to try and get the government to sit up take note and admit there is a huge problem with gun ownership - my faith was restored. I am nowhere near being anti gun and indeed have owned them myself but in the U.K we have some of the tightest gun laws in the E.U, every single applicant is carefully vetted and interviewed by the local firearms officer to find out why exactly they want to own a gun and of they have any allocated land to shoot over - this is repeated upon every 5 year renewal period. The system is so thorough it runs at 5 or 6 months in arrears. In the states as I understand it you need do no more than show some kind of i.d over the counter and you can have as many assault rifles as you like. It really does need a thorough overhaul.
