  1. Well I've done it, Volution with Minari engine, medium apco lift and reserve ( a good deal with Paul Haxby). No money left now , will have to save up for a camera!
  2. After a good second flight last night I have got the bug and want to carry on flying, I'm in the fortunate position of being able to buy new, I would like a Volution as thats what I've trained on, and they are fairly close to me, but which engine? It seems to be a choice between a Minari or a Bailey, I am not a great fan of 2 strokes and have always had 4 stoke road bikes, the 2 has more power than a 4, but, there's the hassle of mixing fuel and poorer economy. Will the Bailey have enough power for me, at 85kg on a medium APCO Lift or similar sized revo2?(not sure which wing to get either!)
  3. http://www.dscondors.co.uk/ There are a few ppg members including Farmer Dave and me, although I am still training and have only got airborne once.
  4. Sunday is 8-12mph borderline? mon 7-9mph better, might see you there, I think I will have to install a wind turbine, it the only way to guarantee no wind! James
  5. 26 miles due east from me to cadbury, you can give me a lesson at the same time!
  6. Me too, I'm 85kg so add 10kg for clothes, helmet, boots etc then 30kg for motor and reserve is total of 125-130kg. Is it better to be near the top of the weight range (75-140) with the small or in the middle of the medium (100-165)?
  7. I am in the same position re buying, my choices were: Bailey V5 Parajet volution Air Conception I'm 99% sure I will get a Parajet as they are the closest dealer, only 40 mins drive rather than 3-4 hours, I don't like buying French ever since they banned our beef exports, and my instructor sells them!
  8. Aaaah a true craftsman, I would have used a large hammer!!
  9. Don't suppose you will be teaching there will you? I might even get in the air!
  10. They are on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/paragliding-p ... 1c272d383e
  11. Can you put it on bare metal or does it need a primer? I've made a bit of farm machinery and need to paint it with something, I was going to use hammerite smooth.
  12. Thanks for that, 'cos I'm too tight/poor to pay for sky!!!!!!!!!
  13. They can also jump out on to roads and deer tend to jump at windscreen height, I saw the results of that once, it ended up in the passenger seat!
  14. Its not a paramotor but I leave fuel in my chainsaws until the next time I use them, which is sometimes months, never had a problem.
  15. This chap has a death wish! http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... GaxwV0QrEE
  16. Well done, count me in if the weather ever gets good enough for me to resume training!
  17. I hope its not worth f... all, as I have lots to make when it dries up, so I can afford a new bailey/zenith...
  18. http://footflyer.com/Safety/Incidents/i ... alysis.htm This is quite interesting, ppg is safer than riding a motorbike!
  19. Oh dear, what a sad state of affairs where we can be sued for other peoples accidents, it looks as though I will be giving my metal detectorists the heave-ho.
  20. Its not easy to trace fields through the land registry, far easier, as someone said to ask locally. If you see a tractor working in the field walk over and ask (don't drive across a field uninvited) explain what you want to do, how it works, noise levels, how little damage it will cause and offer something, I would have thought £10 for the day would get most people to agree, if you start too cheap you risk having an outright no as its not worth the bother.
  21. I'm a farmer, and am training with Simon (1 day so far!) I find there is nothing more annoying than people walking across my land, trampling crops dropping litter etc. When I stop them and ask what they think the are doing the reply is always "Well I didn't think you would mind" I then ask them where they live so that I can walk my dogs in their garden, that usually stumps them. If you are polite and especially if you offer a bit off cash not many farmers would turn you down, or how about giving them some aerial photos as well.
  22. I'd be interested as well, although as yet I have no kit and have only done 1 day training! Or don't any of you bother with insurance?
