  1. Anyone feel custom Paramotor frames and colours coming on? I do ! A while ago I enquired about changing the colour of anodised parts on my Parajet and faced a bill of several hundred pounds. 1 or 2 tins of this stuff will do the job just as well .. and if it scratches or wears.. peel it off and do it again ! Nice one Simon.. Was this the van that was previoulsy Orange?

    Tig welding

At least I should be able to repair my own rig when I have a shite landing ... and then edit the Go Pro video to hide it from everyone

    Tig welding

Correct you need an AC TIG Welding rig to do Aluminium. You should also use Thorium based (white tip) Tungsten Electrodes in the torch. Normal DC electrodes are for mild steel and have a percentage of Zirconium (red tip) in them. When welding with Aluminium the tip of the electrode will form a small molten ball that that the AC arc will be emitted from. In contrast to welding mild steel/stainless where a sharper tip is better for directing/controlling the arc. High Frequency overlay on the AC current is also normally required as its nigh on impossible to "scratch start" a Tig Arc with Aluminium. I have not done any welding for years but its like riding a bike. The most difficult part is actually learning the technique to weld the material you want. Aluminium TIG Welding has one of the hardest learning curves. A lot of people give up when trying to weld Aluminium and find someone who is already skilled at it. Learning to direct the Arc/Heat in to the material you are trying to weld and recognising when you have a good weld pool is the most difficult part. The Arc tends to wander around somewhat with Aluminium and its easy to over do the amount of current you use and blow the material apart. If you can get a rig with a foot pedal do so as this will avoid a lot of frustration when trying to set the right amount of AC current. Be careful what filler rods you use. From memory these are generally either Silicon or Magnesium based and their use depends very much on the application you will use it for and the parent material itself. When I was welding sheet aluminium I used to cut off thin slivers of the sheet and use them as filler rods if I did not have the correct filler rod to hand. Be advised that using the wrong filler rod will have disasterous results if you want to colour anodize the material afterwards. Lastly CLEAN THE MATERIAL you are trying to weld. Aluminium Oxidizes so use something like a piece of emery cloth or scoth brite to clean the material before welding. Grease is also your enemy with Aluminium so if you can degrease the material also. Hope this helps.. and if any of the above is not quite right then someone please correct me..I have not done any professional welding for over 20 years !
  4. Excellent stuff.. added to favorites

  9. Thanks for the update Barry. I dont personally have access to the site as I did not pay last time there was an option to do so (due to a minor broken ankle problem!) but I know Pie Steve will be pleased to see this post. He had to fly with me up my way last time and put up with my complete inability to locate him once I had taken off ...
  10. That's not a sock. It's the pull start from a Pollini Thor
  11. You might want to hang test with the cage fitted. The extra weight may make a difference to the angle you hang at. Just a thought...
  12. Hi Simon. Figured it out.. if you go here http://users.airboxaero.com/Subscriptions.aspx Then you can get a subscription with the 15% discount applied using PARA1 discount code. If you start on the actual Airbox site and navigate through it to the products page to buy charts... http://www.airspaceaware.com/gps-navigation/products/ ...you end up in a different web site where you can also buy and download charts. The charts are for the Aware unit, not the Runway HD App. Confusing to say the least and if they really want to get these products out there then they need to tidy up how to buy charts for the iPad app versus buying chart for the Aware unit. Most importantly the PARA1 discount does work as stated by Simon..so go get the maps folks!
  13. Great company and people.. They did a same day repair on my wing after snagging it on a bramble and used the exact same material as the original for the repair. Thumbs up and recommended!
  14. Stop being a troll and get back to making Pies. Oh and if you want me to teach you how to land next time let me know ..LOL
  15. Its not so stupid if I was assuming the unit and the instructions you have were the part that was causing the problem..badly written manuals and poorly designed software interfaces can also be to blame..and thats the direction I was coming from How could I possibly comment or remark on the level of your intelligence/stupidity having never met you... Dont be so quick to assume the comment was directed at you ..it wasnt.
  16. Cheers Simon thanks for helping out today much appreciated! Darren.
  17. Err..change it for one you can use and understand? Sorry.. but if you are not really sure how to use it..swat up on it ..or change it
  18. Ground handle there quite a lot between the M3 and A30 but wasnt me guv ... honest
  19. Superb..thought the tandem bit was good enough..then the drop away ..very impressive
  20. I started nigh on a year ago and have only 5-6 flights to my name.. injuries (some mine and some other peoples ) and weather have conspired to keep me on the ground since November 2011.. be prepared for delays and set backs is all I will say. On the upside..the first solo flight will blow your mind.. dont tell anyone this, especially not Mr Haze..but I had a litle tear in my eye when I walked away from my first flight I was that overwhlemed.
  21. Dont tell me... you have given up on the Speedster... and taken to flying an Umbrella right? Can't be anything else given the shitty weather we've had for months now !!!
  22. Chuck Norris would hold the fuel in his mouth and walk it back to the paramotor.... ..oh and I am not hiding H... Been in a datacentre all day managing a failure ..no mobiles allowed! Couldnt resist a quick peek at the PMC forum from the console of a spare server
