  1. Hi Kev, The archives within this forum will give you a lot of the answers you are looking for. As for budget, 2K will get you either a wing or a motor. You will be lucky to get both. I suggest you pick a school that also lends kit (normally if you break it you pay for it system) If you start with a school, after passing your training the instructor will normally guide you in the right direction for a complete setup. Lastly the kit is sold with your weight in mind more than your wonga. My thoughts, but please delve into past posts for anymore info. Mike. Good hunting
  2. I still practice both PG and PPG depending on what the weather is doing. occaso0nally l do both on the same day. The one l am rusty on is TOW. Havn't done a TOW launch since year before last. 1953. so getting an old bar steward now lol. Mike
  3. all, did anyone manage to get a flight today. (got into an invitation that l couldn't cancel so didn't make it today) Hope to be down next weekend. Saw the Virgin air balloon over Basingstoke this evening and wished l had my kit with me Back to the old grind in the morning, rush on Sunday again. (wished l could retire then l may get some more flying in) Mike
  4. If l can get the Saturday off work l will be there, nothing can be confirmed for me as yet. Mike P.S. so don't book any alpakas just yet lol.
  5. I know how you feel Gary, exactly my thoughts as well. When it was held at Telford it was excellent and because the financial outlay was less, more traders took part but a lot have deminished since moving to the NEC. So l don't think l will be going this year. Mike P.S. looking forward to our next PMC flyin though
  6. Hope you have a complete and quick recovery Tony. Apparently the Saturday and Sunday was good but like you l couldn't make it in the end (other committments and all that) but hope to get to the flag next weekend if the weather perks up a bit. Good wishes to both of you regards Mike
  7. Hi Whitters, that looked a fantastic flight, and avoiding the airspace lol. I take it your motor is up and running again. Been busy of late but hope to fly this weekend (Sun/Mon) Mike
  8. all, just bought my TV times for the week ahead starting Sat and it looks like the Ch 4 screening of the Skycar on Daredevils is on Tues 20th at 9pm.
  9. If you fly a Biz jet then you personally will have know problems with Met or Air Law, but to fly a paramotor is a completely different kettle of fish to flying a fixed wing aircraft, or an unpowered paraglider. Someone had to start somewhere, probably from Paragliding who decided to stick a two stroke lawnmower to their back and see what happens. but l think PPG has come a long way since those early days and most reputable instructors who have been trained by instructors themselves have a good safety record. The PMC are training pilots now to a high standard of safety and competence and l wouldn't hesitate in introducing a freind to the PMC for PPG training. Yes it is unregulated but only the insane would buy the equipment, find a field and take off in this modern age of aviation.
  10. Hi Simon, Yep me plus one again for sure. Worth every penny and looking forward to seeing all familiar faces. Regards Mike and Jackie
  11. Mines still working Dan. A good peice of advice, cheers. One less thing to worry about when l am packing the night before a days flight. Mike
  12. what photo was that then Pete, is that the sexy one. jackie xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
  13. Hello Pete from Jackie, l have just seen the proof that Mike had another bird and two timing me but l'm better looking than all the al pakas lol. and l have only two legs. Good pics Pete Regards Jackie
  14. What a weekend for good weather. I had visitors for the weekend and they don't like flying or heights, we were sat outside Sat & Sun and all l could do is look up at the bright blue sky then look at the limp trees with hardly a breath of air brushing past the leaves and thinking l should be somewhere else right now lol. Hoping l am free for next weekend (fingers crossed eh!) Mike
  15. Hi Mike, great to meet you in person, and glad you and your equipment are ok. (still not sure what the 1714 stand for, birthday dates maybe . Many great pictures taken by everyone . Good party eh!!. Fly safe., Mike
  16. That was quick getting them on the forum Tom. The first few was of Dan Burton, a couple of me in the air and one humping my motor up the field, the yellow one l believe was Dan P. The rest l am sure will put their names to it. Just to say an enjoyable weekend. Glad l took Fri and Sat off as Sun morning was blown out. Looking forward to the next one. Lastly l reckon 98% of pilots had good flights, no broken props or other bits lol, a well organised event and brilliant weather both Fri and Sat. At last a result eh!!. Regards Mike.
  17. Very colourful Simon, just got to get an avatar on my profile. but it works well. c u all on Friday Mike
  18. Hi Dan, l agree with all the above, its all sound advice. Just to add l havn't a bad back but my legs are crap so l use an old stool to place my motor on then just step into it. This saves the struggle of trying to stand up. With good training and the right weather the rest is a doddle. Whoever teaches you will give you and the motor a hang check then on your first commited launch everything should feel as one and the launch should not be to much hassle for your back. best of luck Mike

Curious Simon, What sought of job do you have in mind? Mike
  20. Hi Mark, yes we are still waiting for our spare props to be repaired by the "nice prop repair man" If memory serves me right l posted mine to him on or around the 29th June 09. He then lost it for three weeks 'cos he didn't find the little card that the posty leaves so it was left at the post office. I had to chase it up through the Post Office channels then phone him to say where it was. The last conversation which there were about half dozen over the phone to him, was the reply "l don't rush things and l always take time over the repairs. So it looks like myself, Mark and probably a few others are still waiting. I will ring him again asap, but l don't have much hope me thinks.
  21. Hi Dan and Mark, Yeah, that was a choker. All set up, pressed the button and .................. nout. Anyway l bought an optimiser this morning and no it was not £25 more like 49.99. but got one anyway as l obviously need one quick as the weather seems to be holding if not consistently. Mike
  22. Dependant on weather, will try and get there around 1845. Mike
  23. Mike, go for the B & B option but take a tent just incase. Mike
  24. What time on Tuesday are you thinking of Morgy. (starting to collect cobwebs again lol) Great day on Sunday--- good crowd--- plenty of toys to play with (Cheers Dan and Deano) lots of coffee to drink. Down side was it was to windy. We need to have the summers of the 1970's back again.
