  1. The recovery was deliberately slow as the A's were being held down to practice steering the wing whislt deflated. As soon as he released the A's it reinflated and carried on as normal. You'll notice that all the induced collapses were done on slow trim, it's pretty much impossible to pull a frontal on full reflex as your weight is already on the A's.
  2. Christ...information overload! I know it depends on the type of flying your doing but I can never understand the need to carry so much stuff. I'm all for the stripped back lightweight approach. iPhone in my pocket is enough for me.
  3. Mine is on the shoulder strap on my miniplane. I wouldn't stick it on the throttle personally as it's a big piece of kit that I only look at very occasionally. Infact it's almost pointless unless you have problems IMHO.

Yes technically you are right Rich, But for this the rules stated that as long as the wing was certified (which for nearly all PPG wings usually means with the trimmers in) and that it was flown within its certified weight range, then the wing could be flown by all competitors using the full trimmer range and speedbar as desired.
  6. Plasma is an uncertified comp wing, the Fusion 23 and the large Force are pending cert so none of these could be used in the PXP speed race.

I use the Gin Yeti reserve with it's own lightweight container. http://www.ukairsports.com/catalog/prod ... cts_id=680 Its very small and light, and fixes to my left swing arm completely out of the way but accessable if needed. There is room to fit all the unused Y bridle inside the outer bag and just have the ends coming out onto the carabiners. So much nicer than having it on the front in the way (IMHO)

  11. Hi Jock, I dropped in at 5.15 to see Nick after his first flight in 18 months. Had a quick chat then raced back downwind to Bromsgrove for 6.

  15. For those of you who have never been or not aware there is an amazing flying festival in France every year in the Alps. Called the Coupe Icare it is held in Saint Hilaire just north of Grenoble. I have been the last 2 years and its amazing. Not only is there a massive show with lots of paramotor stuff there, there are displays going on all the time plus if you register and take insurance documents with you you can paramotor too.   16. I made my own bases from some long springs, bits of tube and some clamps. The biggest pain is you cant weld to spring steel and expect it to last more than a few kicks. On the top I use 25mm conduit that can be replced if it gets cracked. When starting out put some foam pipe lagging on the top to make them longer and not so hard to kick.   19. I have a Synth that I have borrowed the ALC system off to try with other wings. Anyway I have just come to refit it and guess what I cant remember the line to riser layout. Can someone with the same wing grab a photo of the risers showing where the line passes through and where the bungee attaches to. Many thanks Phil
  20. Mat you should definatly try a Miniplane to replace (my old) your PAP Top 80. Power launches, yes on mine it will catch the cage under high load but I do have a 135 comp prop so its not surprising. But if you want the extra draft for inflation just give it 10 seconds of wash then back off and launch straight away (this is how I was trained anyway) This method works fine. Because the machine is sooo light landings are much easier as your not catching hardly any weight when you touch down. My XL framed machine is 18kg dry with no reserve. I have a Gin Yeti reserve thats only 1.5kg so 19.5kg plus fuel. Its the way forward!! They're not indistrucable but must be pretty good as Paul Mahony trains with them and we've all seen school machines and the hammer thay can get. Build up times, ok they aren't a 3 piece cage PAP but if all you have to do is take the cage of to transport it then its not too bad and in my opinion definatly worth the few minutes more assembly time for a lighter machine. If you want more power ie 100cc just stick with the Top 80 but have the bigger cage and run a 125 or 135 prop. I can climb on full bar on a 20M wing and you and I are similar weights. Something else that hasn't been mentioned yet on this thread is the geometry on the Miniplane is excellent (ABM model) and a real pleasure to fly. Its a pity your so far away or you could try mine. Just to make things a little harder to decide, have you seen then MACFLY 80. http://annecyparamoteur.com/crbst_45.html Its made by Jean Mateos, (Alex/Coralie Mateos Father) and it's a full titainum framed kinda Miniplane copy but using the RM80 PAP engine (by the looks of it). The cage breaks downinto 3 pieces and its way stronger.
  21. I saw you go over Richard, I was out by the farm cutting wood. I heard that noisy Konig over my chainsaw Then I had several texts saying you up flying again! Was a lovely afternoon/evening but I was too busy to join in Off to Boston tomorrow for round one of the British League so should get some in no matter the weather! Then Slalomania week after next, one of only 3 Brits competing, then straight to St Hilaire for Coupe Icare.

  23. Not sure but easy to work out, measure how much line you lose with a wrap then compare with the difference between holding the brake normally to holding it right by the swivels.
  24. Poz, get yourself a set of these http://www.vuelolibre.com/product_info. ... cts_id=668 They are acro handles made by Sky paragliders and have a small T bar built in to the top of the webbing. Its much nicer than the bolt on large T bars and less likey to get tangled. They are really easy to use with the throttle and nicer than taking a wrap. They have magnets stitched in so are a direct replacement for the Paramania ones.
