  1. Lol. Twanging belt for tension only works well between 2 very fixed objects...otherwise the other bits vibrate as well. Can you do your prop speed reduction before it is fed to the belt? Keep it 2800 rpm?
  2. I nearly dropped my phone once. It made me do something better. I now use extendable key chain devices to attach anything I love dearly and don't want to drop. I have a rear case for my phone, with a hole drilled through it and the key chain attached. The other end is attached inside a flying suit pocket. When I go flying I just slot my phone into the captive case. In my same pocket I have a battery bank which can run the phone for 5 hours with gps maps running.
  3. I have a Garmin Fortrex 501 wrist watch. This is completely configurable. I have alt, speed, max speed and flight time set on mine. I like it because it is wrist mounted but big enough to be easily seen. You can set either sea level or current as ground zero. It is now called the 601 https://buy.garmin.com/en-GB/GB/p/572639#specs
  4. There is a formula, but it is easier to set one correctly and measure the frequency. AC is 370 Hz. I have done this many times and it is more accurate than torque since you are actually measuring the real belt tension with no friction losses in anything.
  5. Will do. I am currently looking for a bigger field! The one I fly from on foot is challenging - power cables and cows to be avoided.
  6. I asked on the Paramotor FB page about width and consensus seemed to be go wide then it is less likely to tip.
  7. Most machines are made for a certain prop. You can go bigger but will be more likely to snag a line with the prop on aborted take-off.
  8. Finished making my trike. The whole thing wheels up backwards to my towball mounted carrier. Tie it on, then the axles and main tube unplug using pip pin quick releases. I have 2 different sets of axles, one with wheels for hard ground and one with balloon wheels for the beach.
  9. The Microavionics PM-100 has an adaptor you can buy to convert that to a phone. I use it all the time.
  10. I have just read the latest update from the DFT. They have said "recreational flying" is not a "sport" and "the previously issued guidance precluding recreational flying continues to apply". They then say "we will provide another update as soon as the guidance is updated". So there you have it. Flying is not a sport.
  11. I have never found torque steer any problem. At 95 kg I only have to lean slightly left and it just happens automatically. The main difference between the props is the noise is different (frequency). I wouldn't say it was more or less, just sounds different.
  12. I am 6'4" and 210 lbs. I have a Tornado and a Nitro. Both amazing. I can fly equally well with both. The Tornado needs a little more finesse when taking off - you can't just hit the throttle as it will face plant you.
  13. A little off topic........I built my garage years ago with a runway beam, hoist and vacuum lifter. Some of the granite blocks I have are 300 kg. I also have a small elec forklift. The tree I made during lockdown is about 350 kg....
  14. LOL, yep, made the stand for this 75 kg sculpture since stuffing my toes....
  15. Lol. I think the flies are only at certain times. I haven't flown there in the summer yet. Spiral wound carbon fibre tube would work well for a lightweight shaft.
  16. I'll, be hobbling around for a while now! However, I can't foot launch anyway now as back too knackered. My operation was supposed to be 3 weeks ago to cut 3 wedges out of 3 lumbar vertebrae and bend me 45 degrees more upright. I am so bent at the moment that I can't stand up straight enough and the motor pushes me into the ground! I've built a trike......but Redcar beach is still closed!
  17. I spent some time in A&E on Monday this week. I was using my lathe and while parting off a 65 mm diameter bar, the tool bound and caused the whole toolpost to fly off. Over 20 kg of metal landed on my foot and through boots and 2 pairs of socks managed to dislocate one toe (no longer attached!) and break one. It was my quickest ever visit to A&E. Hardly anyone there.
  18. Yep, don't get ripped off.
  19. I think you have been stitched up.
  20. Where are you? I am in Middlesbrough. There aren't any nearby. Nearest is York, Leeds area or across to Dan in Lake District.
  21. Nice. Someone been using Wordpress and Elegant themes?
  22. I am 95 kg, plus 24 kg machine with reserve, 5.5 kg wing 6 kg fuel and some clothing. So 135 kg ish...maybe more now. I fly 26 m Roadster and 28 m Roadster with Nitro and Tornado respectively. You can happily load up to the maximum. The higher loading makes the wing more stable. The higher loading also makes your wing fly faster, since the weight per unit area is now higher. The downside of faster, is running faster, but it's not much different. You also of course get to fly faster. I get about 3 to 4 mph faster on the 26 m wing. It is not a good idea to lightly load the wing as it makes it more able to collapse.
  23. Yes, that one is on my Tornado....which is stuck in Spain, without me!
