  1. At one point, in the background you can see a streamer on a post, horizontal. Nuking was in my met lecture. From memory it was somewhere between very windy and Oh Sh*t! Martin
  2. between the times 1:38 and about 1:50 it looked a little unstable to me. Pitching and yawing a reasonable amount. Maybe due to the wind strength and turbulance? Martin
  3. As Peteb said.... RTFM read the flippin manual. I've never done anything so daft ..........NOT! Martin
  4. and the van, cars, wind sock etc. I must say that not having any hedges or trees in the area must make flying good fun. I can also imagine that the desert is pretty spectacular at either end of the day. How about a sunrise / sunset piccy? Martin
  5. I agree they are good, the majority I worked with are excellent. There is finesse in taking a yump fast which makes the difference between damaging the car and finishing high up the order. The problem with working so long in the industry (being chief designer on 3 rally cars alongside some Paris-Dakar work) is that the detail catches your eyes. It no longer becomes so entertaining when you automatically analyse the vehicles performance. I have also had the dubious pleasure of being taken round a gravel rally stage by our works driver in a works rally car. It was scary and noisy and bl**dy quick. Mind you the tyres were completely ragged after 5Km of stage. The pictures are fantastic. 6. Hi Colin Nothing like ours I'm afraid Wish it was so I could help. Our ignition system is made by Ducati I think (I must have a look later to check it is) and looks nothing like that. Sorry mate. Martin
  7. The first driver is demonstrating a poor driving technique over the "yump", The second car in the air is showing a better driving technique by making the car fly flat. The technique is always shown to good effect on the 1000 lakes rally. It's similar to a skier "pre-jumping" a jump or terrain change. Martin
  8. Hi Colin What's your CDI look like? & who makes it? Martin
  9. Just as a bit of fun! http://www.humorbomb.com/SnowFight.html See if you can make all 10 levels. Martin
  10. It's been around for a long time. see http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/810/Mode_S_June07_A4.pdf for the latest as of June 2007. I suggest it should be read completely for better understanding but I quote >Q: Any other impact on operations outside CAS? >A: Apart from TMZs, operations in Class G airspace below FL 100 would be unaffected by Phase 2. TMZ = Transponder mandatory zone i.e. outside controlled airspace and below 10000' Phase 2 ends in 2012. The CAA have also stated that there will be no enforcement where a technical solution is not viable. In other words, if you have no power supply you can't be expected to fit an electrical system just so you can fit a transponder (which you couldn't fit anyway unless you are a licenced avionics engineer), and if there are no available battery powered transponders (LPST) then you can't be expected to carry one. At the moment there are no commercially viable battery powered LPST's available and the last one I saw at a show which was meant to be portable was as long as my thigh! and about 6" square. Not particularly portable! Martin
  11. Hi Pete Welcome back. Yes the pictures work. Looked like you had a dreadful time....................................NOT! You didn't get sun burnt I hope. Martin
  12. Why can you only get those two brands? Where is your place? Martin
  13. Hi Stu The quality is noticably better isn't it Martin
  14. 1C and 2C is just two types surely?
  15. Mazda RX8 uses some oil injection with the petrol to help preserve the seals. Martin
  16. The wankel is a rotary engine. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wankel_engine for the full description. Used by Mazda for the RX7 (a 3 rotor engine), Norton for their 1990ish bike (a 2 rotor engine). Mazda also used a 4 rotor engine in their LeMans group C cars which would hurt your ears but really sounded nice. Always a bit of an enigma regarding engine capacity calculations. Rotor seals have always been an issue due to materials wearing too quickly and emmissions are also an issue. Martin
  17. The emergency services can use the 999 or 112 call you make to pinpoint you. If you are unsure of your position use 112 as it is way more accurate. I suspect they use multiple base stations from different networks to triangulate your position. Martin
  18. The Air Ambulances are not funded by the NHS and it is a deliberate decision on their part to operate that way. It is because (amongst other reasons) that they are then not burdened by the NHS & Government politics which would tie them to operating in a certain way. They can also chose to go to incidents which really need them rather than for politically motivated or "league table" & government target motivated reasons. It's great that "tip to tip" is supporting two great charities, one being "Air Ambulances". The Air Ambulances should be supported whenever we can. I hope all that makes sense. 19. Hi Richard Have a look at Dog Cam Sport http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/index.html it may help (or not) Martin

  21. The Maplin heated waistcoat comes in medium size only. I bought one just to see what the quality was like......... It will be following Simon's gloves when I can be bothered to throw it that far. I am sure its fine, for an entry level heated jacket, if you haven't eaten too many pies like me! Martin
  22. We have an electric engine man working on one at the moment. Unfortunately there is no publishable news yet.
  23. Dont know about Lambourn, but the fog persisted all day here in Oxfordshire. So I took my daughter rock climbing instead Martin

    New for 2008

A paragliding instructor told me about a month ago that as a general rule of thumb the winds will be 5mph for every isobar which crosses the uk. Just thought that might be useful. MBG
