  1. Norman wrote "Chaaaaan.... son.... da-moorrr, rat, tatat, tatat; pick~up 'da bits...." Have you been drinking?!!!!!? You seem to be going a little mad (in the nicest way)
  2. I'll have a look this afternoon before I go and stand in the cold to watch........ ....my daughter play netball.
  3. gotta have those long balloons that you can fire across the room about as accurate as a scud but really high on comedy value.
  4. Simon and I were (in jest) discussing using JATO for those of us who have eaten too many pies! JATO for those who don't know is "Jet Assisted Take Off" which is used by Hercules aircraft (amongst others) where take off space is limited. http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/c-130-jato.jpg to see what it looks like! One either side of the prop should do the job, just don't hit the button until the wing is overhead.
  5. Hi All Does anyone know if there are any? Martin
  6. Norman Any day that you woke up and spent it upright is a great day! Martin
  7. Hi Norman If you read the comments below the video the pilot admits to putting in too little oil, so the losses through the gearbox would get considerably higher as it got hotter. As for the interaction between props. - I senced a prop "beat" like you get on a twin engine when the rpm isn't matched. on the motor in the video the rpm should be matched but each time the props pass each other it will have an effect. It's not recommended that you use a two blade metal prop on a rutan canard design because as the blades pass the trailing edge at the same time (opposite sides obviously) it sets up a prop vibration. I believe they either fit wooden, composite or 3 blade ones to overcome this. I suspect on the paramotor the props might benefit from a wider spacing axially, there are a few aircraft with counter rotating props to take an educated guess at a good spacing. I didn't think that he looked that big either. The motor was quite a small machine. But it certainly worked on small prop diameters. Trouble with really small props is they get shielded by fat wotsits like me..... As you say, very interesting. Martin
  8. It's something that we have been looking into but is on the back burner at the moment. The props stopped very quick when the throttle was closed. A bit too much drag from the gearbox maybe? I would have expected them to do a couple of turns before stopping due to the inertia of the blades. Although the inertia will be a lot less as I estimate that they were much smaller in diameter than the original (Reference the cage diameter).
  9. I didn't think Simon could........ but I might have dreamt that bit. If he can that's fantastic news for the club (but not an excuse to try your reserve! )
  10. Simon Have a great week off! after all your hard work this year you deserve it. See you when you get back. Martin BG

    GPS

I have flown a fixed wing aircraft with a high quality, panel mounted GPS from Farnborough via Popham to Compton Abbas. Half way the unit lost all signals and refused to regain the signal until safely on the ground. I just carried on flying with the map and compass and didn't get distracted. I suggest that if you are going to use a GPS, be familiar with both methods, GPS & map. the reason for it going down half way.........GPS jamming trials which had been Notamed. GPS signals are incredibly easy to jam (so say GAPAN) so just be aware of their limitations. Remember the old phrase, Aviate, Navigate, Communicate.
  12. As the photo albums get larger and more pictures from each user, how about one of those photo viewer / slide show thingies with "previous" & "next" on it so you can browse through a load of pictures in one window (I couldn't see if it was already like this) I have just been looking through Weesplats album of great pictures and it would make it a whole load easier. Martin
  13. Simon I can put you in touch with my sticker people if you haven't sourced a supplier yourself. MBG
  14. Hi Simon What's your crystal ball saying about next week? Each time I look at mine it says something completely different. Martin
  15. Dan Is this a taste of things to come with your paramotor???? Very funny, certainly appealed to my sense of humour. I think stick kicking might not be the only thing on Simon's banned list Martin
  16. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday weather is starting to shape up! Are you training those days Simon? MBG
  17. Copied below is the text from an e mail which came from the microlight group...... > >The weather has got the better of the planned fly-in at Redlands this weekend. >The airfield is reporting that it is flooded, so this weekend's fly-in is postponed >until further notice. They hope to hold the fly-in very soon. > It's not on the website yet, but after all this rain I would not be surprised. Fanblo*dytastic....... MBG
  18. What do we reckon for the weather early next week? Even for half days. I getting really frustrated waiting for a weather window with all my other responsibilities. Sunday is out for me as I will be at RIAT for a charity event wearing various "hats" (ATC/FSD/WAB) If anyone is flying just be aware that RIAT is on at Fairford all weekend so keep an exceptional look out , especially watch out for fast jets and the red arrows. It's only about 4 minutes away from Lambourn at 300 KIAS.
  19. No need. Just leave your car/van with it's headlights on (Pointing into wind of course). Main beam is best so that you can see the windsock. Only Joking. Birds don't fly in the dark..
  20. That's it! You've just put the kiss of death on the August weather......
  21. The weather would choose to calm down on the one weekend that I can't wriggle out of Hope you all have good weather as we are up north near Preston. 4x4 with snorkel might come in handy..... MBG
  22. Wanted: Companies to take out, and pay for, banner ads to support Simon W and this site, rather than posting new topics which are really blatant adverts. One topic in particular springs to mind. It's as bad as spam. IMHO I know most people want to see forums such as this free from adverts, but web sites cost £'s to host.
  23. Another month of this and I think we'll move to another country!!!!!!!! Paramotoring in Australia? Legal? MBG
