All the above is good advice. I can only restate. The weather is the biggest unknown in this Game. As Simon and Pete have said in other threads. understand where you are flying on a hill / in a gentle dip, makes all the difference to your immediate perception of the wind. if unsure fly with others and ask their opinion before takeoff. if going on your own judgement for the first time. fly up 2 hours after dawn and two hours before dusk. I still don't like to fly in the middle of a thermic day. Ironic as that's all you look for as an XC Paraglider pilot. make it your mission to understand weather more. best of luck. Simon

Hi all, I was thinking whilst the wether is bad I will take advantage and prepare my motor, with a couple of tweaks. Alas I am not known for my DIY skills. I will now be needing one of these big rubber grommets as I snapped the stalk off! Does anyone know where I can buy one? I also need this spring http://www.simonini-flying.com/componenti6.htm at the top of the page. I rang them and they asked me to get it locally.

Hi Felix - you clearly haven't see Pete and Si after Dark. with Pete the fire(works party) burns so bright, its daylight. Simon never stops with his perpetual Gibber Jabber. Felix, I hope it all works out for you, it is a truly amazing sport. The people I have met through this particular forum, all seems self content, happy, individuals. they just want to fly. cheers Simon

Formal investigation report....August 29th 2009
learner_driver replied to garyfreefly's topic in Safety Matters
Hi Norman - Even on a reflex wing, if you have the trimmers in (most people do for take off and landing). you are piloting a wing sharing the same characteristics as a standard PG wing. The centre of pressure is back near a DHV1 wing or CEN LTF 1. when the trimmers are in. The centre of pressure moves forward and active piloting is no longer recommended when the trimmers are out and the reflex area of the rear wing is in operation. PS we fly the same wing I think ? mine is the Cabrio Synth. In the manual it is ambiguous and states. When you pull the brakes, the synth cabrio profile actually loses its self stabilizing character. what it does not say is that it is referring to trims out flight. It mentions that, that is the status quo in the preceding paragraph. but still is confusing I hope this helps. Kind Regards Simon -
Formal investigation report....August 29th 2009
learner_driver replied to garyfreefly's topic in Safety Matters
Second that. I am assuming (please correct me if wrongly) that the author of the report is recommending 'Timely, smooth, instinctive, minimal inputs are the key' as a way of preventing the wing attaining such large moves from overhead. With sudden turbulence the requirement changes from this Cheers Simon, Alan Hi Alan, I should point out that this is with the trimmers pulled in only. So one is flying like a para glider. Active piloting in gentle to moderate conditions requires usually smallish input. The key however is to match your wing. if it moves a little from above your head you match it with small inputs. If the wing moves violently, you must respond the same, but only for a brief moment. it is scary at first, but after a while XC pilots get used to it and usually have plenty of height, as they are thermalling, but it can happen low level on the ridge. All I am saying is that you need to match the speed of the wing movement , with your control input. On reflex it is a different story, let the wing do the work. cheers Simon -

Hi Alan, just as a point of note, always match the aggression of the the wings move., therefore not smooth and minimal. Remember when active flying you are only trying to to correct the pitch move, until the wing is back above your head. in a sharp move forward of the wing in pitch to 40 degrees, that is a huge move and needs a large 1 sec or so big brake input( hips), the moment you feel it begin. the wing will then stop going forward, and you have checked the dive. for more info perhaps read paraglingforum.com. before you ask. there is no risk of a stall, as you pull the brakes so hard, so briefly, you are just undoing the surge, to leave the surge unchecked, will often result in collapse. I hope this helps Kind Regards Simon -
I now know that I now know that Tossa's have a louder voice than the lovely people. I'll shut up then it is better than sex and it keeps getting better for example what woman will go hard at it for 1 hour for less than a £5. fill her up and let you do it gain. for another fiver. doesn't mind if you put her in the shed when you've finished. or just left to sleep in the car overnight. I could go on Happy new year

let the French write in French and when the weather is bad, we at least have a challenge. Simon could start lessons, he clearly had a French Girlfriend at some point or is V V clever. My view is that it is an amazing country and oh so near. I wish next year to catch the quick ferry from Portsmouth to Cherbourg and fly the peninsula. Someone from France can say its better if you do X, or you will be shot down! Bonjour peuple français vous êtes les bienvenus Simon

he must have been fixated on the trees. To ride a motorcycle very fast you are taught to always look around the corner. else people sometimes ride straight on. Who am I to judge, but I will. he clearly has no understanding of a flight envelope, as pulling on the brakes to get off is a good technique. but that technique only finishes when the brakes are fully off, the moment he was airborne + 10ft the breaks should gently be released, without dropping altitude to give more airspeed and energy to the wing. I would have gently steered away from the very missable wood to the lovely empty bit on the right, the moment I took off. oh to have hi - in - sight

Nice vid from Paul
learner_driver replied to pete_b's topic in Paramotoring Videos & Aerial photography
lovely cheers Pete - interesting how dynamic his wing is. look to see the big changes in direction and see how little brake is used. was that a DHV 2 wing or above anyone know. Just wondered. -
Hi Pete, that is a great price. best buy from these guys as you can walk into the shop and buy hopefully. This give you more rights under the sale of goods act. you only get a week for mail / internet order! SImon
