  1. Interesting, i also thought it was a height rule and wondered why so many PPG`ers seemed to flout the rule by flying low and potentially annoying / harrasing people or animals etc.. Whenever i`m `up there` i just don`t see anywhere really suitable that i could try flying low without causing disturbance to folk - houses, farms etc always seem to be within too close a range. I try to keep myself high to avoid annoyance - the more we keep ourselves as annonymous as possible to the general public the better for the longevity of our unregulated sport? It doesn`t just apply to us then? In theory you could fly a small Cessna or other light aircraft skimming the ground? Why don`t we see that..!?
  2. Just out of interest, when you`re flying at `really minimal power on slow trim` what ground speed/engine revs are you doing for level flight - and which motor do you have/where are you in the Nuc weight range? Is this at full slow or neutral trim?
  3. I don`t see it as a `club`.. I don`t go to the fly-ins, use Membury nor have i taken up the PMC insurance, so thirty quid a year is a bit rich to post/view on a forum a dozen or so times a year - especially as we`re used to the internet providing stuff for `free`. If i see a forum that i`m interested in and have to pay to view guess what i do - find another one for free! I would say that if folk are forced to pay up and join your forum activity would dwindle considerably, and PPG hasn`t got the volume of users like car/motorcycle forums have for example so you already have a limited market. You need volume through the forum so that a proportion (the same proportion as now, probably) of those will sign up to the full membership. Less traffic = less full members.
  4. That one is Power 1 Racing - fully Synthetic. The one at Asda appears to be semi; https://www.louis.de/en/artikel/castrol ... l/10038368 It`s hard finding details of this `New` Power1 in the UK, all info seems to be from Europe. Still, £5 is good, semi is usually about 9/10 quid. There`s nothing like an oil thread to get folk going, is there......?
  5. That`s waht i`m thinking - Power1 Scooter is/was semi-synthetic, Power1 Racing is fully synthetic. It used to be written just below the `Power1` on the bottle, but this one labelled `NEW` has nothing.. Assume semi-synthetic....
  6. Simon! I`m going mad here trying to get the vid to show, i think i`ve just undone what you did in my fifth edit! I can see it in preview but not when i submit!!!
  7. I did a little bit of experimentation with a chase cam and just used the tried and tested coke bottle jobbie. It worked quite well, nice and stable. The flying isn`t exactly exiting but at least you can see how this type of chasecam performs. I think there were some `proper` chasecams on ebay recently for about 30 quid but why bother when you can make one for nothing? [vimeo] [/vimeo]
  8. Same here, can`t wait to get into the air again, especially as it`ll be with my new wing.. Last flight for me was 25th Oct. Could possibly of flown last Sunday but it was rather overcast but low winds and mild, so i did a bit of ground handling at the field instead. I do like to see a bit of clear sky when i`m up and prefer to fly at least 1500`, don`t like being hemmed in by clag.
  9. Nice pics! What`s the story behing the partially built bridge?
  10. Oh, so you`re into motorbicycles as well? I have four classic Japanese 1980`s v-twin middleweights myself... What frame is that in the pic? I know what you man about flying with others. Although i haven`t actually took off/flown with anybody i did actually share the same piece of sky a couple of weeks ago over The Solent/Hurst Castle when i happened upon two other PPGers on my way over to the IOW. S`really good to see paramotors flying from another paramotor, quite unusual for me. Thanks for the pm by the way. Hann.
  11. It`s not just Moster exhausts that self-destruct, then. That looks like an excellent repair at a bargain price, Pat. When mine cracked i took it to a welding guru who quoted about 80-odd quid. I didn`t fancy that and was worried that it`d only fracture again, so put the funds towards a new exhaust which was only £275.... I think i`m going to keep your welders` details, just in case! Cheers,Hann (just got back from a 2-hour flight this evening)
  12. What type of connectors are PJ using - are they the same as the ones in the pic? My Bulldog uses these and i have had no problems with them - they make a good, secure fixing. Are they snapping together positively, is the o-ring in place?
  13. So you were in Norfolk over the weekend, Simon? I was travelling west along the M4 on Saturday and saw a gaggle of six PPG`ers overhead (always good to see other paramotorists) as i approached Membury, assumed it was Paramotorclub, so i pulled in to the services for a look-see expecting to find a busy school field - there was no-one there! Only after i had stopped could i get a proper view and they appeared to be flying north of the motorway, anyway. Do you still use the same field adjoining the services, it looks like it has changed quite a bit recently with the addition of the solar farm? I was quite surprised to see anyone up there - quite stong conditions i would imagine being in the middle of the day and quite windy, too strong for me anyway, i prefer it nice`n`quiet in the evening! I was on my way to a bike doo and detoured via Fairford to see the Vulcan etc first.
  14. Can you run for five seconds? That`s all it takes most of the time to take off... Landing can be a bit of a jolt on the legs sometimes, until you gain enough flights to fine-tune your technique (may depend on wing type/loading whether you come in fast or not). Paramotors generally land at faster speed than those paragliders you saw as we tend to load our wings nearer the top of the weight range for speed and stability. If you f-up a take off or landing though, that`s when injury is most likely to occur, and you are likely f-up whilst still a learner - i know i did/do...!
  15. Hi Michael, Well done for getting flying - is it all you hoped it would be?
  16. Yep, quite impressive - spotted this one over Wiltshire; Another;
  17. Yesterday down here was low winds but the sky was a bit `moody`. Dithered until too late, last few hours was flyable, damn. Today was very clear and hot, cumulus bubbling up but too windy, damn. Tomorrow looks absolutely perfect, but i am back at work, damn... Glad someone got some flying in. What was the wind like at Membury today?
  18. Was it one of those 2-piece carbon props that slip together? Having never handled one i thought they could only go together one way, obviously not..
  19. Yep, me. Planning to get to the field at 11 and fly for as long as possible. Hopefully not too breezy aloft, and my home-made heated gloves will make a difference...
  20. Cool, did they generate a NOTAM for the area over that weekend?
  21. Hi Morgy, Where did you do your altitude flights? What prep do you have to do to go up to 10K - other than wrapping up warm! Do you just pick some suitable class G and go for it or notify authorities/get permission etc?
