  1. I'd be interested, probably x2. Spent a lot of time in Arizona with work and there's some fantastic scenery - I assume all trips would be in the winter? I am only there over the summer months and boy is it hot! Steve
  2. Hmm. First sign of trouble was mid flight XC when coming out of a practice forced landing, full throttle engine just died to idle but not dead. Limped home blipping the throttle as too much and would cut back. Suspected I had leaned it out too much (only thing changed since last flight) as had oilly plug before that, so put it back to where it was. Couldn't seem to re create the problem on the ground before or after mixture change. Same problem next flight. By chance when on the ground I ran it not on my back and basically fuel may as well of been sparkling -so many bubbles. Problem found I thought - checked for any leaks and put a new quick release on. Next time at Barrys was still getting bubbles but not a great deal decided to try a flight. Flew again for 5 mins all fine, took off again an 10 mins in blown piston, looked like the CHT might of been as high as 250C but cant remember which flight it was from. My hypothesis as cant be 100% is that as the adapter from the tank to the quick release is Alu and the connector SS, after running a while expansion rates being different might lead to more air bubbles. I suspect if I could see it there would of been lots of bubbles before the pop. Anyway got the motor back from PJ today with all my instructions (straight fixed connectors). They ran it for 30 mins and seems fine so fingers crossed sorted..... Time will tell - first chance to have a go will be in Spain next week :-S
  3. Weeeeellll... PJ couldn't get the part from Polini until November despite best efforts. I decided to try myself and managed to find one via Dan at Freshbreeze UK and it was posted direct from Germany to PJ HQ so big thanks to Dan. PJ have had it running today so will be picking it up tomorrow - ready to take down to Spain on Sat! Glad you had a good flight - I'm hoping after a week in Spain we will have got all our gremlins sorted on our kit... Steve
  4. Sadly my machines still at PJ so I'm out. PM me if you want my phone number, happy to rescue if required (focus estate). Steve
  5. Quite an adventure! I was expecting a reply of 'didn't fly due to rain'. I looked out the window in Fleet in the evening and thought - no one would be flying in this....... What time did you set off? We still dare not break the 3 hours before dusk rule :-S. Steve
  6. Would of been if I saw this post / my engine parts had arrived / it wasn't pissing it down on the entire route! Sounds like an excellent route - we have only made it as far as Elstead (well I made it there and back, my fellow paramotorist didn't book a return!) from Barry's field and the next route we planned on was a circuit of Guildford. There seems a couple of new people starting/restarting in the area (almost enough for a club ha!) Do you have anywhere other than Barry's field to launch from? Steve
  7. I use flyskyhy. Seems to do me fine although I havent done anything as far as your trip. Its only for Iphone though. My mate uses PPGPS. I would love to as I think its better but the iphone version is not supported as well as the android version. Steve
  8. They are metal CPC one similar to this: http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.a ... &catid=926 Wondering if its the joint itself or one of the hose connections either side. What clips are you using to secure the hoses to the nipples? The quick release part on the tank side does screw into an adapter that has the nipple on it. Clutching at straws but the two metals are different (expand at different rates with heat) and could be fine untill they get warm then start leaking... Cheers Steve
  9. Sooo after two XC flights where I have had to limp home with an engine that loses power at random times I think I have found the cause.. I ran the engine up straight after I landed this time to try and replicate the issue and I may as well of been flying with sparkling fuel. Turns out the quick release connectors on my Zenith (already replaced with metal ones) are letting a LOT of air bubbles in. Question: can anyone point me to a link for some top quality ones OR I am thinking of doing away with the quick release and putting fixed connectors in...I never take the tank off anyway. Steve
  10. Nick I'm taking my kit into work tomorrow, hopefully if weather stays ok will be heading to Barry's early evening. I'll PM you when certain but looking good. Steve
  11. I think like Simon says, best find an instructor as there may be non airspace restrictions in certain areas (I.e noise complaints etc), however we fly east of Farnborough with a lot more issues than the areas you describe, so I wouldn't let that put you off. We launch under London TMA (Class A) which extends down to 3500ft, and if we venture towards Guildford need to be below 2500ft, whilst avoiding Farnborough ATZ and the IFR approach which is very close - such that we actually stay below 1000ft until we are far enough south. Steve
  12. It was on our list of places to try but no not from White Lane Farm. Barry's field is on West Flexiford lane to the North East (see earlier post). I thought White Lane Farm would be a better place (near main road so less likely to be a noise complaint) but haven't got round to approaching them yet. I need to run my engine before I fly again but hoping to get up next week at some point. Steve
  13. Its a bit too far from us in Farnborough for a regular evening site, but certainly would be a good XC target or weekend visit. Our aim is to circle London at some point in the future. Steve
  14. One of us landed out at Elstead on the way to hindhead, surprised you didn't see us! We fly from Barry's field north of the hogs back. Its on west flexiford lane. He charges £10 landing fee which is fine, although the grass hasn't been cut for a while and was a bit tricky getting up on Tuesday. His number is 07884261108, just give him a call if you want to visit. Its not an ideal site as its 'up and out' and we could do with something else aswell locally. Somewhere around Elstead would be great if you can find a field we can do circuits etc on. We both have 17-18 flights (2 in UK since training) and around 10hours so still novices ourselves. I will PM you the next time we are flying if you want come up with us your more than welcome. Steve
  15. Hi guys I have just replaced my sky light reserve container with a sup air container with cockpit (M). Two questions that someone may be able to help with as I'm not totally convinced by it: My sky light XL reserve (130Kg) still seems a bit slack in the container (to be fair it is a light weight reserve) - I have put some foam padding under the cockpit to get a nice fit. It will not interfere with deployment but wondered if this was common in reserve packing? Second question is the container mounts are plastic and have to be pushed through the harness every time I clip in rather than a clip being left on the harness (unless I install extra carabiners). Has anyone with this container had the clips fail? The old ones had metal clips, its a shame the new ones are plastic. Worried about how long they will last if the reserve is hanging by one point at times on the ground as they don't seem easily replaceable and at £95 not a cheap option! There don't seem to be many other options with a close able cockpit. Cheers Steve
