  1. Without doubt. It goes with out saying you need to know air law to fly safe. As well as an understanding of the rest of the theory that goes with flying. Just the best thing about the sport is its accessible to average Joe. And for me, the cost of training pushed it out of my budget at the time. If money was no Object I would have had full professional training. But is was so this is the route I took and it worked for me. Either way ya just gotta fly!!!
  2. Hi. I'm self taught in as much as I've had no formal training. I fly with a group of people who, as above, are very skilled responsible pilots. I would never reccomended people just get the kit and have a go. But with the help and guidance of a group of people who have been flying for years and resources such as this site and the rest of the net it is possible to do. The reason I chose this route is due to meeting people in my area through this site who were willing to help me no end, and the fact that I had a very deffinate pot of money and this meant I could spend more on newer better kit. I would have gone down the training route if things had panned out differently but would have been a lot more expensive and would have taken a lot longer. All said and done, I think both are acceptable and perfectly safe and this is what makes this sport so accessible to every day normal working class people. As always this is my opinion and does not stand for anything. Just the way I done it and it worked for me. Had first flights and a few more with no problems and a good understanding of why I'm up there and why I don't fall back down!!! What ever way you go just enjoy the freest most affordable way of flying there is. IT'S WORTH IT!!!!!
  3. I'll bear it in mind. Going to try and fit the liness back on the weekend just to try them. And Dave that sounds pucka. Plus there is the fort at east tilbury which makes a nice sight and a land mark for flying home. And there is a pub next to it
  4. It's a date. I'll keep an eye on the weather and let ya know. I fancy a bit of a mission now I'm more comfortable with the flying. More time to take in the sites and views instead of looking at the wing and thinking about every thing that moves!
  5. Cheers Dave. I was going to have a look last night but I've got the bag inside out as a stuff sack at the min so would have meant getting the whole lot out. I will have a look this evening. Really nice flight tho Dave. You will have to come and play soon.
  6. Ye that's how was steering on Sunday morning. Just felt a bit awkward? But then if ya only trimmers out on a xc or want to eat up miles then gentle weight shift will keep ya on the straight course. Thanks for the help. Either way I love my revo. Kinda like ya first car I suppose. Or first girlfriend might not be the fastest or the best or the sexiest but its the one you lost your cherry to!!!!!
  7. Thanks for the replys. Can't say I've noticed any Velcro handles and can't see anything in the manual???? Can you elaboraborate for me? Thanks stu
  8. Had a nice flight early Sunday morning covering about 20 miles around my house. Got a chance for the first time, to experiment with the trimmers. Only thing that I found strange is how awkward it is to use the wing tip stearing lines as they seem so high up and inaccessible to use if you were flying quite activly. What I was wondering is......... Is this the normal set up? Is there such a thing as control Lines that "clip" onto the wing tip lines? Either way the flight was brilliant, clear blue skies and the Sunday morning people below( dog walkers and golfers mainly!) most of which seemed really pleased to see me. Thanks peeps. Stu
  9. Dave are you in the new expendables 2 film?
  10. What's wrong with these people. As if flying with a desk fan and ya mums curtains ain't enough!!!! Then they go and do things like that. Respect tho. Just taking off and I'm s**ting bricks!!!
  11. Congrats Simon. Looks like just the thing the sport needs. A realistic and manageable level of formality and still optional, I also would like a little more info on the registration. Is it just the wing that's registered? And is registration of a wing affected if you change your motor? Just something that I wondered as its paramotor tailored insurance and registration I thought it might be an aircraft as a whole? Either way it's def something to consider in the near future for me.
  12. Hello Mate. I am relatively new to it my self. To give you a heads up on the cost of starting up I have just done it for just over 4500. That's 1800 on wing (revo 2), 2200 on motor (pap Ross 125) 70 on garmin vista gps, 120 on helmet, 200 on reserve and pap container then a repack on top. And 75 on a cheap radio and head set to get me by for now. Some good deals to be had if you decide to buy second hand (especially on the pmc auction site, that's for you Simon). Either way it's worth every penny when ya up with the birds. And as far as weather goes, we are in England so as and when and just be grateful!!! Good luck with it all!!!!
  13. Who Dell or Phil DELL. More I read about him the more I cant believe the bloke. The gtr looks like a nice but if kit reading about it on the paramania web site. Must be a bit of a beast if they select the people who can fly them. Seeing you fly the other week Matty, seems like ya having plenty of fun on the revo!!!
  14. Ha love it. What a nob!!!!!
  15. Oh I see. Makes sense. So if people go down the "registered wing for insurance reasons" route, they can fly if they file the paper work? And the transponder part. But as the sport goes, once ya registered, insured, filed flight plan, registered transponder and got a nice day to fly it will be all over with anyway! Cheers boys. Bring on the 14th August!
  16. Sitting in my garden earlier enjoying the nice weather (now we can't fly) just chilling watching the birds and the clouds and the two flex wing microlights flying over then I realised, what the F*$K are they doing up there!!! Can any one enlighten me? Or are they just giving the olympics two fingers? I live in east tilbury in Essex so I'm will in side enemy territory!!
  17. ive decided not to look at the weather forcast for the next month. only make my self sick. i wonder how long you have to be airbourn and at what height you have to be before its classed as flying???? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
  18. Fly_mow

    mad

I had a go at making a pulse jet!!! It was a 4lb thrust design about 2 ft long. Started it down my dads drive way and wow it was loud!!! Set of car alarms and dogs all over the shop! A lot of intricate details to them even tho they are a very basic design and theory. Never got mine to run with out forced air on the intake but loads of fun either way. Shame they are to heavy and to hot to hang on your back!!
  19. You read my mind mr sticky grape. Looking forward to this one. the weather is a joke tho. If it ain't windy its raining and if it's neither, I'm busy. Get the odd window to fly but don't know about it till the last minute. Love to know if the fly in us still a possibility tho.
  20. I would say deffinatly no because I haven't got the time or money to join you on this adventure. AND ITS NOT FAIR!!!
  21. Yes but you got to squeeze the moisture out of horse dung and drink it Maybe ray mears then.
  22. Can I pretend I'm bear grylls?
  23. I had real trouble getting hold of them about a month ago. Had two caribinas on order for over 3 weeks and could not contact them by phone only the occasional email. Then they turned up in the post out of the blue. Strange as they seem like a very reputable company.
