  1. Its a total rush of adrenalin! The following takes 20-30secs approx Do the ground checks (then do them again) Stand in position, pull the wing up, arms out!, gun the motor, Run like F*CK. Check the wing, all OK keep full power, keep running, little corrections, get light on feet, keep running, then a boot up the backside as you get lifted up as fast as you are moving forward, meanwhile getting scooped into the seat. Quick wing check.. S*it am i climbing fast enough to clear trees/houses/powerlines? Am I hanging on the brakes?? YES to climb, NO to brakes. All good, start a downwind turn and climb to 500-1000ft...... And Relax... Actually I never get a chance to relax... And for some reason all these mad pessimistic thoughts keep going thru my head...!?! Is the motor going to fail...? Is the wing going to collapse...? Has the wind picked up? Is it thermally...? F, me its bumpier than it looked on the ground! Has the wind changed direction.. ? How much fuel have I got...? Where's the landing field gone..? If it stops, where am I gonna land..? Was that a thermal or a collapse..? Are my karabiners still closed..? Whats my height..? Why is that light aircraft still flying towards me...? Am I high enough to use my reserve? Then landing and relief of being back on terra firma... and a sudden need to be straight back up there again!?! But if you want to know what it feels like... its noisy, cold, windy, with high vibration, hanging off a bunch of string, which in turn is hanging off a bag of nylon in a fluid and ever changing environment... with the BEST VIEW IN THE WORLD!
  2. Cheers Dave I've emailed Vince to see if he can get his hands on one for me. BTW I've just fitted the float bowl carb with all the extra plumbing to the Polini. Its one of those jobs that you just cant rush and take it step by step. The biggest problem I found, which isnt mentioned anywhere in the destructions, is the throttle cable is of a completely different type to the one used for the diaphragm carb. After a bit of head scratching, I managed to mod the original one to fit. I dont know yet if Polini can supply the cable as a spare (including the electrical throttle cut cable) but they want £80 for the complete assembly It looks good (if complicated) when its all together. But I haven't had a chance to fly it yet. I'll probably post up a seperate 'how to' guide when I get back from my hols Rich
  3. HI All I have a low hours Polini Thor 100 on my frame and I am cursed by the constant leaking of oil around the exhaust manifold. I stumbled across this on the Polini Yahoo group and am wondering if it was a factory retro upgrade, or if the kit can be ordered from Polini/UK suppliers? http://newsletter.polini.com/PI466.pdf I have a local engineering firm who can easily do a neat job on the mod, I just want to know the best place to obtain the kit (for free preferably)
  4. I think the general consensus is the crash happened due to a build up of sand in one of the tips, which should have been emptied out before flying. (but they're still investigating) One of the marshals noticed the trailing edge flapping just before it folded. The guys on the road to recovery tho' and wanting to get back in the air asap (actually some of the above i said may be b******x, as things have moved on since the release of the vid. Poss dead air, plus full reflex, plus speed bar are also factors to be considered) He went in hard and fast without warning
  5. Have we settled on a likely date for this yet Pete?
  6. Good luck with the flight guys I like the online tracking function http://share.findmespot.com/shared/face ... 5vfQm5kdD0 Looks like you've been parawaiting for the last 4hrs though Rich
  7. That NOTAM is bleedin massive! How much airspace does Her Highness need http://www.hollo.org/flying/maps/?locat ... ows%20Farm
  8. We should insist on a flying demonstration by the seller.... Easy £250 from YBF!!
  9. I think I spotted him too (blue tips & big white centre panel) from the M25 somewhere east of St Albans... I was on my way back from the Lemmings in Rayne and thinking my new hobby is suddenly becoming very popular It looked super smooth tonight... It was rough as f*ck when I went up at about 4pm
  10. Could this be why Parajet are not offering a Moster powered version of the new Zenith? Zenith Powerplant to thrust options (taken from the Parajet Zenith page) Engine-------- AUW----------Thrust(kg) Top80----------19.8------------48 Moster----------22--------------70 Thor 100-------24.9------------60 V5---------------27---------------60 Thor200--------28---------------80 (sorry if that looks weird but the forum automatically deletes spaces) The Moster figures are mine by taking off the published weight of the Thor200 and adding the published weight of the Moster, so it could be out by a couple of kilo's.... The Moster (on paper) would hit the most ideal power to weight ratio, but all the new mods seem to be beefing it up or addressing the much discussed cooling issues. I wonder if Vittorazi was trying to go more for weight savings at the expense of strength when they designed it
  11. Sorry Pete... The request not to post in this thread must have been very very small....
  12. They'd have to get a 'lock' on me first!! Yeehaa!! (that was a joke mr MI6 agent browsing this forum...)
  13. Very useful leaflet posted on airspacesafety.com Basically if you see a Typhoon flying at 40knots rocking its wings and dropping flares... FLY AWAY FROM LONDON!! I wonder how much that cost... asi_intercept_leaflet_v5_lr.pdf
  14. Cheers Dave I had a chat with the farmer this morning and all's good with him Only thing is, if he does receive a complaint then i'll have to stop immediately, no questions... I think it will only be occasional use only, take off and do any low level stuff elsewhere (abiding to the 500ft rule of course) I'm 2.7nm south of Luton 0 - 3500 and 2nm west of Plaistows (the microlight field with the dirty great pylons next to it..). Any cross country's would have to be to the south towards Bovingdon. It's crazy, but when you dont know about complicated airspace etc you think you can fly off and go anywhere, but the reality (in north London) couldn't be further from the truth! Your field sounds great m8, deff give me a shout when you go up there next Rich
  15. Managed to wrangle the exclusive use of a 20acre field in-between St Albans and Hemel Its in a very (noise) sensitive area, It's got about 3 stables within close proximity. And the field involves a bit of a hike to and from the car, but its well worth it Nice and flat with no trees. I'll have to keep it a bit close to my chest for a while, but hopefully if I can keep the farmer sweet I ''should'' be able to have a few guests
  16. I think the chimney initiated the collapse, then he was trapped in the up/downdraft/rotor from the proximity of the building. Any idea whose wings they were on? I don't think they were reflex... (?)
  17. TTO have these in a few flavours and are available for about £40, it's a shame that they don't do a combined unit Polini's combined CHT Tach and hr meter is a nice unit, but a bit pricey at 160euros
  18. Welcome to PMC Dave If you don't mind a bit of travel, then I can thoroughly recommend Mike and Alex down at SaberAce paramotors, Rayne (nr Braintree) Essex. http://www.saberace.com/training.shtml Of course there are other equally as good instructors near you, but I can only give a big up to the guys who trained me
  19. And, we had to recently go rescue a V5 cos his reserve kept knocking off the main power switch! Easy fix, but it should have been sited in a better position (the reserve and the switch!)
  20. That was a very good price Morgy... Does he do Audi's as well? I'm not having a pop at Bailey's, its just horses for courses.. Some want to go on record breakin XC flights, so fuel consumption is going to be the number one priority. The comp based power pilots are going to go for Polini or Moster based power plants. If I had 5.5k to spend on my next PPG, it sure aint gonna be a Bailey cos it doesnt float my boat.. Maybe a Bailey is more like a Ford Mondeo of the PPG world? And Italian based PPG's are Ferrari's or Lambo's?? (Duck's and runs for cover!)
  21. And has anyone discovered the cost of re-building a mechanically more complicated four-stroke? Oh, and the spares are only available from ONE supplier/manufacturer, so technically he's got you by the balls
  22. This is a bit more like it! [youtubevideo] [/youtubevideo]Sound good too
  23. See - http://imperialbeach.patch.com/articles/ultralight-vehicles-superdell-dell-schanze-rooftop-jump After getting the sport banned off of the beaches in Oregon; SuperTw*t has now got all Ultralight flying restricted in San Diego I don't think he's making many friends in the PG community either... http://www.paraglidingforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=47149
  24. Agreed.. I recently stood under a V5, a Moster and a Polini all taking off at the same time, and to me they all sounded about the same dB level. With the V5 though the sound is more acceptable (to onlookers) as it's a four stroke and has a lower pitch sound when compared to it's 2 stroke equivalent. I was wondering tho' what it sounds like to the pilot... I noticed on one of the V5's I was looking at at the weekend, that it had a standard cone air filter instead of an expansion box, so I guess the induction noise might be a bit louder
