  1. I dont think i've seen one in the flesh yet Neil, If we get blessed with good weather, i'll have a gander at yours at the fly-in Rich
  2. I've done a bit of digging around and I need one of these.. 84c16910 by Tricky1942, on Flickr I've mailed Tillotson in Ireland and they can't help me as they say they don't manufacture that bit.. Anyone got an old G variant in their scrap pile?? This is my old one still in place and i'm worried that bits of the old foam are getting sucked into the motor 19092011(002) by Tricky1942, on Flickr Cheers Rich
  3. Can I have first dibs on peoples low hrs 110cc units as they pursue an extra seven horses of power...!! I'd love an upgrade to a lighter power plant from my weighty JPX, but can't afford the 2 grand asking price! Rich
  4. Hi all I have an older Bailey JPX320 with a sponge air filter on it which is slowly disintegrating It has a tillotson carb fitted as standard. Can anyone point me in the direction of a supplier of cone type or those natty air boxes you see on more modern paramotors. I guess I’m looking more for a knowledgeable Kart supplier but any suggestions would be welcome. Rich
  5. SPOTTED! I was driving at the time, but the missus saw them both heading towards Hatfield area. Anyone on here? Rich
  6. OOps!! Sorry, my bad... I scanned his posts earlier and didn't realise he was quoting Poz I'll get me coat.. R P.s Anyone for a round of hangman??
  7. Summat very fishy about this bloke... Deffo a troll First he cant fly then he posts this in the Revo thread.. Then he's 82kg then 75kg soon to be 70kg... that's some mad diet for a skinny git(!) Now the two son's statement.... My monies on ''he who shan't be named'' trolling from his sick bed Rich
  8. Hi m8 You could try Andrew Bedwell of All Good Fun (01732 462213) based just outside Sevenoaks. I remember him vaguely talking about giving lessons a few yrs ago, but i'm sure that if he doesn't, then he knows a man who can Rich
  9. Hi Ian Good to hear from another PM'er in Hemel! I've been training with Geoff Soden up in Huntingdon for a couple of months while all my ground handling has been in Bunkers Park near Leverstock Green. There's a few of us looking for out for local fields, but so far without much success. We'll have to see if we can pool our resources and sort summat out! Rich
  10. I'd put money on some sort of digital cockpit (if his last invention is anything to go by....) Multiple sensors (Fuel, Revs, CHT, ExT Altitude(!) etc) on an easy to read display with simple push button scrolling But then i've been wrong before Rich
  11. Looks like ''our Francis'' has been a busy boy. with his agenda... From the BMAA forum http://forums.bmaa.org/default.aspx?f=14&m=4074&g=75633#m75633 Posted 2/3/2010 10:11 AM (GMT +1) Reason I ask Graham is that I have begun writing the draft consultation paper to propose a change to the SPHG definition and would value any insight from the CAA and the BMAA on the underlying philosophy for the current form of words. I am seeing widespread and increasing illegal and untrained usage and feel that some action needs to be taken now in order to protect our sport, which is essentially gliding rather than "powered" aircraft. Essentially the proposal is to remove the term "foot-launched" from the definition and replace it with a maximum wing loading. This will have the immediate effect of making training much more widely available through BHPA schools in both PPG and PHG variants. A separate proposal to address untrained usage by making the undertaking of a recognised course of training mandatory for SPHG, similar to the Irish CAA's requirement to have undergone training. These proposals stand independently but, together, address the safety and operational concerns many have expressed in the exponential growth of sub 70kg craft non-licensed flying in the UK Working for the common good are we m8? Rich
  12. I blame Jock for this mess.... . . . . . . . Why? . . , , Well, if he hadn't posted the link from the MEN in the first place, Franky boy wouldn't have seen it and we wouldn't be here 8 pages later!! Rich
  13. You gotta admire him though? The biggest problem I see is the next time our ''little darling'' Francis is in the park with his son's enjoying the sunshine.. He'll be far too busy looking for overweight middle aged men falling from the sky to prevent the pi**ed up chav with the staffy/pit bull cross from tearing his throat out And my learned friend.. maybe I was a bit obtuse with my earlier post, but the only people you are successfully alienating is your very limited customer base(?) Rich
  14. Our sport already has a darwinesque element already built into it. What with ground handling, correct fuel mixing, meteorolgy etc. Most ebay purchasers have either seized the engine, chopped their hands off or smashed the cage and prop before they even get to Darrens level. I think our intrepid aviators problem was that he was too impatient to finish any training and to listen to what the instructors had to say. He ended up in the unenviable position of being airborne with out the safety net of someone being on the radio to talk him down! A crash was the inevitable outcome and yes it was fortunate he didn't hit anybody. This could have been avoided with training, and I am sure in hindsight, Darren would rather not be in the position he is now and I wish him a speedy recovery. Like the gun/dinghy/kitesurf analogy, you are always going to get people who think this looks easy and get into it via the cheapest route possible. They are the ones who are the greatest danger to themselves and you CANNOT legislate against stupidity. Rich P.S Please dont let me stop you going on though Francis. I think our sports average demographic is middle aged men going through a mid life crisis (if the fly-in is anything to go by) And you are currently alienating most of them
  15. Sorry about my outbursts guys, but I've been watching this all day at work and was unable to post and the anger came across a bit heavy in my post. I kitesurf as well, and just recently a ''well meaning'' instructor started mouthing off about safety and so on to the local land owners (this is an unusual spot where a golf course owns all the land up to the shore line). To cut a long story short, he managed to put the fear of god up them, going on about public liability and kites crashing into guide dogs for the blind training schools etc(!) It turns out the golf club has now signed an exclusive lease over to him and he will now run the beach and charge the 500+ local members £200 quid a year for the privelidge, which used to be about £30pa Fortunately, his little plan severely backfired and he is probably one of the most hated people within the kitesurfing community with people boycotting his shop, school and reviled club and stripped of his teaching qualifications and insurance by the British Kite Surfing Assoc (The UK governing body). So can you see the comparison? Its going to be hard enough keeping us out of the attention of the press as it is, especially when there are so many motors and wings easily available on t' bay . Personally, I thought the Manchester Post article was actually fairly well researched and unbiased until our ''unelected spokesman for the UK paramotoring community'' Francis spoke up for us. Its precisely that attention we should be avoiding.. Regulation will severely limit this sport and possibly ruin it for many to line the pockets of the few, And if you want regulation, then can you please pop over to the BMAA website and see what state they're in! Rich
  16. Quote: 'Our sport is being discussed and plans are being drawn.' And what the fúck is that supposed to mean Francis? I am sure you and your Flying Horse outfit is going to be very popular if we end up being regulated because of your un-restrained outbursts! Rich
  17. Yes, definitely up for it. Hopefully I will be in a position to do some flying this time, rather than standing on the ground wishing I was up with the all the others! Rich P.S Thanks to Outkast for letting me try on his new motor... I'm now looking at ways to raise the extra cash to buy one! ''Maybe next year Rodney... maybe next year...''
  18. To all the Dell fans out there.... http://socialtimes.com/paraglider-arrested-in-oregon-for-youtube-stunt_b66381
  19. Like the HT lead/s being ripped off with the prop still turning or the starter battery connections shorting against the cage etc I still think he was v-lucky... I wager he had a large laundry bill as well
  20. It's not like he didn't have enough field for a run up did he?? It could have been really nasty tho' Fuel + Hot exhaust + Wing =
  21. Hi Gaz I work on the business park in Biggleswade! So it should be fairly easy to arrange a meet! What is it with this soddin weather? The two weeks my wing was on order it's dead calm.. Since it arrived, we haven't had a day under 10knots!! Oh well,, I'm off kite surfing in Egypt on Friday, so I can guarantee you all that it will be calm skies and good weather for the next week at least! Rich
  22. I think first you need to define what you mean by ''Chase Cam''?? Is the camera physically mounted to the pilot, motor, wing or rigging? If any of those methods are used, then my interpretation is the camera is not being towed but is part of the aircraft. If the camera is mounted in a pod with wings and physically towed on a cable behind the motor I think then you are probably falling foul of the law. As well as being dangerous?? Rich
  23. Nice one, beers sounds like an excellent idea I think i might have seen ''Woody'' and another PM'r tracking up the A1 just north of the Hatfield tunnel about a month or so ago and to be honest it's what made me start looking into it a bit more seriously. I'm actually a member of Plaistows, so should be in a fairly good position to find out if we can be accommodated. It's owned by a guy who flies a DynAir(sp?) all glass hotship, but leased to Exodus airsports ML flying school run by Rob Grimwood (twice world ML champ and BMAA board member) Barnett and Exodus airsports club are also based there. The field's on a hill, next to powerlines with some noise abatement issues from the Butterfly farm next door and it's fairly active, so we might be better off looking elsewhere... but there's no harm in asking I'll keep in touch as my training progresses
  24. Hi All Just dropping in to say Hi, and I thought I would be a bit cheeky and be the first to post in the Hertfordshire section.. I have my Wing and Motor sorted and will be training with Geoff S up in Huntingdon, but once I have my wings, I hope to be flying in the Hemel / Bovingdon area as well as making the odd trip out.. Is there anyone else local to me? I have found the Westmill lot in Ware thanks to this site and Dunstable hang gliders are up the road at Holmbeck Farm... anyone else lurking about? I am very close to Plaistows Microlights, but as far as I know they are strictly fixed wing and trike. Cheers Rich.
