  1. Looked like the Blorenge to me. Richard
  2. Andrew, Might be better at 1pm, giving you a better chance of staying up! You'll also find weight shift thermalling limited, compared to a free flight harness. Glide is also quite poor compared to free flight. My A2 will glide at 8.5:1 in a non cocoon harness, but I bearly get 6.5:1 with a 'slimline' paramotor on my back (engine off)..... Tick over with the prop spinning just about makes up 10 glide points to about 7.5:1 You'll also 'swing out' more on circling, but keep more outside brake and go slower. Best UK straight line paragliding XC is 93.46km, best paramotor (engine off) XC is a failed out and return of 27km...... Just staying up in thermals: then there's no difference, you'll just go up quicker PG. It all just adds up to the challenges of thermal flying with a motor. I love it! all the best, Richard
  3. Hello Andrew, I still fly DHV2 ENC paragliding wings under power since 1996 Saber/Aspen 1&2. I too have a background in PG and enjoy moderately thermic air with the motor. + efficient economic(3cyl konig....) feel agility launch - stability at speed slower by about 3-5kph I'm about to order another ENC pg wing having been disappointed with trials on ppg (economy and feel). I fly at +10/15 kg over placarded weight and have about 740 gps flying hours. hope this helps Richard
  4. I've been told I need a keyhole op to trim the right medial meniscus, following MRI results. Just wondering if this will be a lengthy recuperation period for being able to run with a 38kg weight on my back. I need to plan when to take the op so that it doesn't interfere with the annual Snowboarding trip (as yet unbooked) and minimise air downtime. I've been told 1 week to 3 months, depending upon which advice to believe. Docs will only say 'no driving for two weeks' at this stage. Anyone any experience of this procedure? thanks in advance, Richard
  5. Sounds like just a fib, if it is you'll be back up and flying in 3 months. I did tib and fib in a spiral fracture (Judo comp) Finished my fighting dojo career (33 yo anyway...) I took a full 12 months of pain to get 90% fit, still only 95% 20 years later. Doc will be the best estimate. All the best on that one! Richard (Crispy boots and Andy Murray ankle supports....)
  6. I'm just interested in what people listen to when in the air. I think it varies on how experienced you are and for what reasons you fly:- 1 Nothing 2 118.675 3 Local airfield freq 4 Local PG or PPG freq 5 Radio 4 ... 6 Radio 5 live footy 7 Radio 2 ... 8 MP3 Rock 9 MP3 Modern 10 MP3 mushy ... I'm an avid fan of personal digital BBC Radio 5 and 6 for the footy and sports updates, but also like the blues and Jazz on BBC R5 and the comedy on R4 630pm. I do switch to the local airfield freq 123.000 when close. Richard ps - been flying since deregulation in 96 and only fly for fun 70-100hrs/year. (I do like moderately thermic air (ex-PGer)).
  7. 2 - Anyone forward launched with a ^ shaped layout? (pull the centre 4/5 cells back about 3 metres.) Works well and always inflates the middle cells first. I've also forward launched with 'big ears' a few times. (check your wing recovery stats first). This helps delay the inflation of the outer cells and helps in conditions which are marginal on reverse or forward. Try some 'dry' test runs next time. 7 - "Low airtime" paraglider pilots - agreed. I haven't looked at my wing on any type of a forward launch for years. You know when it's right, you can 'feel it' and you can feel it when it's wrong ..... Richard
  8. All DHV/LTF class 1/ENA gliders behave like this (Most DHV/LTF class 1/2/ENB gliders will also behave like this). Just a compromise on performance. Speed and glide will be quite disappointing for most of us. http://www.sky-cz.com/n/en/products/gli ... nical-info Richard
  9. Hi Rich, what wing & size/all up weight/tank size? Rich
  10. Blimy lads, you do seem to have a consumption issue there. My 3 cyl Konig (430cc) will do 1hr 55 on a 9 litre tank at trim speed (38-40kph), but that is using an efficient DHV2 paragliding wing. On full bar I can get 1hr 20min on the same tank (53-54kph). Agree with Mike though, the Black Devil was never known for its fuel efficiency nor quietness.....
  11. Could just make out Orange wing with light blue leading edge on Saturday eve. Richard
  12. On a stag weekend at the moment, but back for Sunday evening if it's any good. Richard.
  13. Is it a regular situation for the 'uppers' to tear away from the sail? I've not seen before. Is it just a motorism (props catching lines)? Richard
  14. Thermals. I 'grew up' paragliding and now do both. This is half the fun of paramotoring for me; being able to switch the motor off and having a play in the lift, then switching it back on when I cock it up.... It can get rough though if breezy, when the prevailing wind destroys the natural thermic lift. Give it a go next time, you'll love it (saves fuel also...). Richard
  15. Mike, only just seen this message (watching/listening to football...). I flew from Clent this afternoon 530pm. Bit breezy at 1000asl, but quite nice to have a play in the thermals. Catch you next time. I hear Powick field grass has been cut! cheers, Richard
  16. I'd like to get on the list for a demo on the Force (M) at the nationals. I should be there on the Friday at least, pending decent weather of course. Richard
  17. Hay Bluff is a favorite of mine. A 33km pg XC flight can had to Abergavenny. You must be a South East Wales PG club member to fly there though. Richard
  18. Great to know there's someone else flying around. I had a trip from Clent to Great Whitley this evening. Not a soul in the air...... where were you all? Richard
  19. Phil, Hope to pop in over the w/e and have a look again this year. I flew there inbetween tasks last year, but won't compete. Will be out later today, if I can take off over Clent. Might see you at the w/e. Rich PS - Didn't realise you were into drag?
  20. Managed a side ways slope take off from Clent about 645pm went around the top of Bromsgrove looking for Phil/Nick but no one around. Went around Droitwich and to the top of Worcester. Saw the balloon in the distance (beyond Malvern?). Quite cold, with an ENE 8kph wind at 1000ft asl. No other aircraft spotted. See what happens weatherwise for Wednesday. Richard
  21. I'm game for Monday, looks too windy for me until then. I need a really good run off due my dodgey knee, so Powick long grass is a no no. If there's anywhere else with a good launch let me know, else I'll take off from Clent again and fly down to the Worcester area. Richard
  22. Only late Sunday PM on the Long Mynd. My knee has been playing up since and weather not ideall for my downhill launch requirements on the motor. Have you progressed any trike training/qualification yet?
  23. looking good Jock, let me know when you're ready to have a flap. Richard
  24. Not me Jock. Had a couple of hours late on the Long Mynd. Switched on, just as I got there. Never ever happens like that ever ever. Richard
  25. Moving down, out and away is more like it. Couldn't find a price. Give me a clue? Richard
