  1. Was a surprise to me too! A pilot I know based in Stirling gave me his number as he was getting lessons from him....
  2. As it happens, you might be in luck...I remembered getting Paolo's number last year, forgot he was based in your area.. and it looks like he is only an hour away from you... 3. Any chance there could be future webinar(s) of some of the material.? Perhaps a Q and A after... just a thought..
  4. Went for a drive yesterday to a ski resort at the Nevis range. There was no snow but caught this as we entered the car park.. https://1drv.ms/v/s!Ape9bfQTOEGDhUnF-7Ch1fGB8eVk
  5. Hi, I live in the sticks -a beautiful area and I occasionally fly my drone. When I do its usually from the top of a mountain or over water -but its never near buildings (I'm more into landscapes anyway, for footage). I dont fly over people either and the idea of flying it deliberately into airport airspace both baffles and horrifies me. Why T.F. would someone do that? Recently my wife and a colleague were at a training course in a rural country spa location -middle of nowhere -- and at one point during the class her colleague leaned quickly away from the window as there was a loud bang - only to find that someone had accidentally flown a drone into the window..... I have had the feeling for some time now, given the prevalence of drones, that their day will come and I think that the Gatwick incident might now be the start. What the govt will do about it, I'm not sure and I just wondered what others thought? Thanks Paul
  6. Hi, Looking for some advice please... My motor is a Polini 110 and I have a 125 cm wooden prop at the moment, looking to move to an E-Props. Should it be a straightforward swap out or will there need to be any adapting done -i.e. longer/shorter allen bolts - or different centre boss etc.. Also, just for info would it be better to get the 130cm or stick to 125? Any and all opinions welcome. Thanks
  7. Thanks Tunny. From D shackle to wing, I think the connections will be fine. I am a novice, learning and its really good to be able to turn to a bunch of like minded, more experienced pilots for advice.
  8. Absolutely - I mention lock wire in my second comment...a job which I will do today! thanks for reminding me.
  9. No, its not a PAP or HE.......not giving you any clues....fancy another go?
  10. Is the webbing usually nylon? Been looking at both polyprop and nylon webbing strengths - According to a Google search: The break strength of a webbing material is the maximum stress or load that can be applied to the fabric before failure or it breaks. Polypropylene has a break strength of 700 pounds, Nylon is 2,500 to 7,000 pounds and Polyester is 2,000 to 10,000 pounds.15 Jan 2015 ... I think either way that there is a good amount of strength from carabiner to swing arm, looking at the third of a ton on the shackle, 20 odd K/N (320 stone - I know I have put on a bit of weight but l should be fine with these carabiners..) in the carabiner and the triple webbing .
  11. Hi -thanks for the responses. Forgive my wording....It was specifically the D Shackle and also if poss a rough guess at the webbing -its tough stuff by the feel of it.... The carabiner already has the K/N on it and as you say Andy, it can hold a lot. There should be a picture attached now -I need to get some lock wire for the bolt -but a quick measure of it show that its 6mm
  12. HI, I wasnt going to post this as I thought it might be a bit of a daft question but its bugging me. On my setup I have the swing arms with holes and in one of the holes there is the D-shackle. Attached to that there is a kind of loop of double thickness webbing and connected to that is the carabiner. So, if the d-shackle was to snap -the entire connection to that side of the wing is gone. An unlikely scenario I would imagine but I wondered how strong the shackles were. Its the ones that came the motor. I haven't changed anything. The carabiner has a rating thats printed on it and I know the webbing will be strong - but I just wondered how strong. What can the webbing take and what can the d-shackle take in terms of pounds/kilos before failure? If someone either knows or can hazard an educated guess, it would be most welcome. thanks
  13. I was recently visiting Sunderland and was looking for a decent beach to do some ground handling. Ended up driving to Hartlepool but didnt see anything. I didnt know about Redcar beach and how close it was. It looks like very good beach. I feel a trip coming on!
  14. Would that be the same if you wanted to change from a wooden prop to E props?
  15. Hi -Havent checked the post for a while as no one replied for weeks... Not based there but go regularly. Just back from Sunderland a couple of days ago. Been trying to locate good beaches or other sites for flying. If you do end up moving back, give me a shout and I will head over and maybe we could do some activities...
  16. HI, I was just wondering about prop strike (not that I've had one) and whether they ever affect anything other than the prop. Or is it usually a case of just replacing the prop? Also, I'm thinking about getting an e-props propeller. Is there much of a weight saving? I understand they spin up faster, so I am assuming they will be lighter... Grateful for any input, thanks.
  17. HI, Thought this might be of interest... Last week I sold a motor harness to someone online and was curious about the kit they were using. Turns out it was an Indian chap who builds his own 'aircraft'. He built his own small paramotor using what looks like the DLE 170 engine. https://1drv.ms/v/s!Ape9bfQTOEGDhHKnTL8sNYoCOGEh He tells me he is going to use my harness for a special project where instead of a wing he will use rotors (and paramotor) so it will be like wearing an autogyro: https://1drv.ms/v/s!Ape9bfQTOEGDhHGF_5lnnk89xQsT He has also been doing this: https://www.facebook.com/danny.danjal/videos/10216149730925041/
  18. Hi, During school summer hols (for us up here starting in a couple of weeks) I will be heading to Sunderland for a few days and whilst the Metro Centre has a tractor beam like effect on my wife, it has the opposite effect on me! So, I was wondering if there were any pilots in the Sunderland and surrounding area that I could maybe hook up with for messing around with wings etc.
  19. This type of thing? https://www.screwfix.com/p/delta-plus-har14-4-point-adjustable-fall-arrest-harness/7767R?kpid=7767R&ds_kid=92700024696253541&ds_rl=1247848&ds_rl=1245250&gclid=CjwKCAjwpIjZBRBsEiwA0TN1r4P0CSUsjCQ8zK75Rtgc1wTjbMdZjklhU0-WFiR5LC0uehZoTGRQChoCm0AQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CNq9kaHO09sCFYEW0wodPloH2Q
  20. Hi, Just curious for opinions on this one... I have a new apco SLT high hook in harness. I bought it to swap out a harness on a motor that I have since sold - I never got round to swapping it out. the motor I now have, has its own low hook in harness and so I have been using my apco high hook in for ground handling my new roadster 2. I put the harness up for sale but am having second thoughts as I started using it for GH. Looking for opinions on whether I should keep the harness -or sell and get something with low hook in points...is there any detriment to ground handling with a high hook in harness when the motor I have has low hook in points... thanks
  21. thank you all.. I was looking at the fuel tank and thinking - surely I dont need to take the tank off...... and I genuinely forgot about syphoning! Havent done that for a very long time when I had motorbikes...will also look at AndyB's solution.....glad I asked the question - thanks again.
  22. Hi, I was wondering if there was another way to empty fuel tank -other than just run it dry. Mine's a Kobra/polini with the tank secured by what looks like 3 allen bolts -2 top 1 bottom - has a breather pipe and usual fuel line with squeeze bulb. If I had to empty it out - take bolts out -disconnect fuel line etc? Apologies if it sounds like a daft question...
  23. None of the above. My dad took me to a public park around the age of 2 (1970) and I have the clearest memory of what I found out later to be a wessex military helicopter landing in front of me. For some reason I always remembered the exhaust slats at the back. As a toddler I was terrified of the noise but I developed a borderline obsession with anything that flew, especially helicopters. My toys were always model planes, balsa rubber band gliders, those propeller things that you pulled a string to get them to fly. It continued right through into adulthood with remote controlled heli's , drones. I was constantly looking up at the sky. Even now, my wife and daughter will be in the living room and on them hearing a helicopter or plane, will shout through "Helicopter!" if I am in another room -but I have usually heard it before them - we have a medevac heli lands at the football field..just up the hill from me. I sometimes go to the field just to look at the heli but I get mixed feelings when that happens. It goes from "what an absolute beast of a machine - to -I hope the person being transported is ok" -and then jealousy when I see that the pilot looks like he's 12. Then came the first day I decided to get paragliding lessons. A flying machine in a rucksack! I then discovered paramotoring. Big Boys toys!! To be able to take off from a field with my own flying machine is a dream come true. Now with a new wing on the way courtesy of Clive Mason and my Kobra/polini machine, I am looking forward to more practice -just need the weather to co-operate!!
  24. Sent my Synth in beginning of Feb -they told me that it was scheduled to be looked at in April so I asked for it to be sent back to me. I sent it to the loft who have approx 2 week turnaround.
  25. Hi, I have a brand new Apco SLT, high hook in harness which I have never used and now I have a different motor, a Kobra which hooks in low. I was just wondering, as a beginner, would there be any benefit to swapping out to the new harness or is this a no-no... Any information welcome thanks.
