  1. Hi kiwi k, This was what I was a little concerned about - if the cord itself was not replaced with a longer cord - an the pull starter rewound - as opposed to the existing cord just pulled out a bit -the spring would be partially loaded and also I wouldnt have as much pull travel when trying to pull the engine over. I will need to work out how much extra length I will need and have a play around with it. I will get there in the end! Thanks for your response.
  2. Hi -and thanks very much for your reply. Just to clarify -I dont need to rewind the pull starter with a longer piece of cord - -i simply fix a pulley to the frame and route the existing cord through the new pulley - and it should hopefully be still long enough to have enough length to turn the engine over sufficiently to start it.. Many Thanks . Paul
  3. HI, My motor (ros 125) has a pull start which when retracted, goes back to the pull start casing -down behind the frame -and I want to look at how i can extend the start cord so I can run it through a pulley and be able to use it for in-flight access. Not sure what the correct method for doing this is - can anyone advise? thanks
  4. Excellent video and very informative! I will follow what you have done and be very careful about the steel wire. With my engine the pull cord is not yet on a pulley (so the handle retracts right back down to the starter casing) - and so I am wondering if I need to extend the cord length to do that - and how I would go about that - got some more research to do I think.. Thanks again -its very much appreciated!
  5. Thanks again for the advice -doesnt look like there's any sealant on mine - what mixture are you using per 5 litres-I might be running too much oil...
  6. Thanks for the reply! Much appreciated. How do you have your pull started mounted - via a pulley? I am not yet at the flying stage -but soon hopefully.... and your video would be most welcome - thanks again.
  7. Hi, - before I say anything -just to let you know, I am new to the sport My ROS 125 has this decompression button, which seems to make it easier to pull start, if I press it in. Once started the button pops back out. I dont have the pulley and extended pull cord set up for restarting mid air - but was wondering even if I did - I wouldnt be able to reach the button before attempting to pull start - and if I cant reach it it would be very difficult to pull because of the higher compression. So - how would l deal with the situation of restarting the engine in mid flight? Is there some mod that can be done? thanks
  8. Its not -drip-drip dripping - more seeping from the bolts and forming a single drip...quite slowly...
  9. HI, Looking for some advice if I may. I have a used ROS 125 and seems to start and function ok but I have noticed black oily substance coming from the exhaust manifold area, not a vast amount but there nonetheless, where the pipe bolts to the engine. It drips down onto the expansion area of the pipe but I can also see little streaks of black on the wooden prop. Can anyone advise what this may be and how to resolve if considered problematic? thanks
  10. Absolutely - I used to work in forestry years ago and our chainsaws had the same starter mechanism design and they would break from time to time - not often though..so I wouldnt have though that you would have had to pay particular attention to it as a weak point on the Ros... Which leads me to the pulley (over the shoulder starting for in flight restarts) Right now, I dont have the pulley in use, so the starter cord retracts fully to the casing, down the back of the frame, which would be unreachable in flight. So, I am going to get the pulley put onto a piece of stainless, screwed to the frame.. For anyone who uses this method - how hard is it to restart the engine, pulling over the shoulder? Is there a technique - a knack?? thanks Paul
  11. Hi - Just some info really.. I have recently acquired a Ros 125 -a newbie to the sport myself and recently had the manual pull start spring go on it - got it fixed easily enough though - but whilst looking for parts, I found 2 suppliers - PAPTEAM in Italy and Kangook in Australia, who both deal in original ROS parts....(couldnt see anyone in the UK that stocked the parts) So, I emailed Ron at Kangook about the ROS motors general characteristics, what it was like etc - explained that I am new to the sport - here was his reply Hi Paul, The Ros 125 is a good motor. I have personally chosen to fly the Ros for the last 4 years. Good motor, and easy to work on. I was quite heartened by that response...although at the end of the day it is still a 2 stroke motor and something will go wrong at some point...
