  1. awesome - thanks for the replies - sorry not responded earlier - just popped out for another beautiful flight - great to cool down after a hard day working in the heat!
  2. BTW, both motors in this case where parajet (mine macro and other was a compact) in good nick.
  3. Hi We had a lovely mini fly in (5 pilots) this weekend just gone. One thing that was apparent was the difference in our set ups. The site was quite a sensitive one with regards to noise. Heres something I wanted to ask: I have been told that the best or at least that it is fine to warm up your motor at idle. I just start it, idle it for 2 minutes and thats that. When I walk to the wing to fly with the motor on my back I do turn on and crank to max half throttle for a few seconds before clipping in and flying away. It works for me, seems to be less noisey and intrusive and maybe even better for the engine (or worse ??). One guy insisted on kneeling down into the motor and crankin it on full revs for some minutes in order to warm up the engine - hell of a racket..before doing the same again prior to flying. Which is the best way? or what do you do? David
  4. Thanks mark, what was the wind speed there in the vid? Was out yesterday with the 26 revo in sub 18mph but very top end for pg. still found it hard to get decent lift and seemed to have more drag..had to push hard on the ground to move forward whereas couple others on small pg wings had no trouble.
  5. I like the idea...price considering. Surely they will supply different shaped cabs?
  6. Awesome Simon, look forward to chatting about that.. ..and having a go..
  7. Really? Thought that would be a step back? Id consider anything...although revo2 does all i want for ppg...
  8. Hi I own a revo2 26m with a macro v2 I use the revo (110kgs AU) for freeflying in stronger conditions..how ever ot does seem to be a bit of a brick in these conditions. It handles wind okay but seems to lack corresponding lift (set at max slow trim) and also feels like huge drag (trying to push forward on the ground was hard work). So the question is; woud the GTR or GTX perform better as freefly wings? I appreciate they are designed for ppg..but it fits well with my 28m pg wing and my aska 17m as a top end alternative. Thanks for any info/ideas David Ps will there be any paramania wings to demo at the fly in?
  9. Guess it depends on your layout. Defo noprobs with mine if i lay the motor on its back under the bed..but...i dont need to as the bed ( which is a 3/4 width) folds up to the side when travelling. Overnight its in a solid zip bag outside with a cable lock. I have rear 3px bench seat
  10. Farmer dave around there somewhere?
  11. Hah hah lols! Just a thought but do you not have some trim out for landing? Gives you a nice swoop and great flare authority?
  12. wow..what a depressing situation. Strikes me that both of you have perfectly valid points but one of you simply cannot communicate in a decent, reasoned and intelligent way. Some people are confrontational and seek such...they usually get nowhere. I am very happy to say that its not the case everywhere. I am a paraglider with South Devon (SDHGPGC). There are just a few of us who paramotor too and no one has any problems although we do agree not to fly at any PG sites which a. makes sense but even more b. most of the sites are miles from anywhere and I would never take a motor there. The main point I wanted to make was that recently we have had a couple of people come into paragliding from speedflying (including me but I got my CP) - initially without qualification and flying on club sites. The clubs response was not confrontational but arms around shoulder and gentle conversation and steering. Both those pilots are now fully qualified, members of the club and one recently made 1000 feet ato and soon to go XC. Attitude is hugely important in these situations.
  13. a new field I've gained permission to fly from just 4 minutes from home - lovely! [vimeo] [/vimeo]
  14. just texting the 'ex' re kids to have the weekend off...Be my first flyin ooh ooh she just texted back with 'sounds okay. I'll check my social calendar' that pretty much means I'm good to go. Freekin awesome!! I saw the address - is there a postcode I can plug into my satnav? I'm David from South Devon - we have a small club not too active at the mo but I'll ask around. weee...quite excieted all of a sudden.. Edit: okay so what do I need to bring..beeers? loadsa food ( I guess we are talking field and not local cafe)..Mine's a yellow T5..with fold down bed.. Edit2: CONFIRMED!! I'm there..please weather please play ball..Just spent 2 useless weeks in Annecy in the rain..
  15. If I may I'll add a tiniest bit of balance; I come from paragliding (& speedflying). I love my Revo2 (26m). Sure its not as fast as any of my other wings of course, but for me PPG is about travelling..mostly in straight lines or gently profiling terrain. The Revo does that superbly, very very easy launch, super stable and is all I would want in a PPG wing. Im not going to slalom anytime soon (but I can crank it when desire to). I seem to fly just fine on low revs (Parajet Vol2 macro) 130kg AU. I just got a new PG wing which is top end EN-B..all bells and whistles, fast. 9.1 glide, tiny risers etc etc..and I so want that for my flying over the next few years...but with PPG its different for me, just get me up, fly nice n stable and get me down. Thanks Revo! david
  16. no no, understood your point! well made - for sure Dell reigns - but this guy..he gets to be on TV because he's an idiot..then thinks he can make it with book in talks about his experience (lovely brick background)? sheeez!!
  17. sorry, hope you don't mind but my own opinion is that he is an utter dickhead...sorry if that offends let's see, flying right next to buildings, right next to people - a city FFS and finally, after the 'accident' flying into powerlines he takes a whole new attitude to life....he flys without a helmet..of course!!!
  18. Hi everyone - thanks for the tips & vid. Sorry didnt respond sooner - been out flying again today. Again extreme light winds but this time from one direction - 3 launches all perfectly fine. I don't have a problem with nil/light wind launches..what I had a proiblem with is the multi directional thermic or whatever puffs of wind from any direction at any time. Having said that all advice is very well taken, so thanks. Flying a Rev02 26m. Today was interesting - flying along nicely if a bit low (say 300ft), up over the moor when my throttle sticks at lowish revs (not enough to stay up) ni matter what I did with the lever..!! My first emergency(ish) landing on the moor..miles from anywhere. Fkying buddy malin & I had radios but he was out of line of sight! Anyway, luckily I had landed on a slope with some wind coming straight up, checked the motor - all fine - so took off again and finished the flight.. Latest opinion was that it probs a frozen carb (I fly a parajet Volution2 Macro - almost brand new). Another lesson learned in this wonderful sport. Ive really got to get high..that way you have so much more time to sort problems out. Thing is with my speedflying background I love 'contouring'..
  19. ..as on Scumdog FB Anyone with any tips greafully received.. Bloody Hell..I'm utterly exhausted.. 6 aborts before getting away on the 7th! Conditions were perfect EXCEPT it was too light! IE there was absolutle no wind..forcast very light from North..but got a puff from the south, then a puff from the west, then a puff from the east...I moveda round the field 4 times! Initially the wing came up out of line and it was hard to correct and keep it above my head. On one go it was peerfect above and I ran and Ran and Ran..NOTHING..then the hedge ... Set up for an easterly perfect solid puff....connect all ready...its coming from the west..oh you bastard..waited..waited..nope...AGAIN..reset to the middle of the filed facing west and just caned it...my final effort before collapse..aaaaatttt lllaaasssttt!! A local flight with some good crank n banks and practicing following tractor tracks in the filed..phew..going down the pub..
  20. no idea if this has been up on here before..interesting incident.. [youtubevideo]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BF48FWp881I[/youtubevideo] well, he was very honest..progression to learning tip drag is a bit harsh intit? Perhaps over shallow water with a lifejacket? I have never done one except for speedfly wingovers but it seemed to me he needed to pull the wrong over alot harder from higher up so he is above the tip when it drags the ground...rather than below it...
  21. yes, undertsood..everytime I need to kill the motor I still have to look...I need to practice more - muscle memory and all that so i can kill as instinct without looking.
  22. yeah, wow - could you not kill it? or was that stuck too - shows me how I must never ever play with the motor..they're great machines but will bite if you let them..
  23. Oaky who's willing to admit to a dumb or poor or unsafe (or all three!) decision that did or could have ended badly?? Here's mine: Just a week ago. Had an awesome first flight for an hour zero wind, clear, all good. My first on the Revo2. Next flight I head to a field I have permission to fly from but not flown it yet. Arrived to find the wind coming from the wrong direction. So, decide to go into field next door (which has a full track on it) and just maybe tinker/groundhandle. This field is owned by another farmer who then turns up (to tend to livestock elsewhere)! I ask if its okay to be there and he says fine, just make sure you shut the gate...so, can I fly from here from time to time?...sure, just close the gate.. EPIC! So, i get the wing & motor ready and have a good look round. Field is small, sloped and has a power line running through it, trees at the border on one side, high hedge on the other...no problem! I asses the power cables are a good 100 yards away, the wind is running along the hedge..it does mean a slight uphill take off but doable...in my mind anyway On launch the wind switches slightly to my right which mean its coming over the hedge So, an uphill launch, light cross wind over a hedge, towards a power cable with trees to my left (downhill slightly) which have a telegraph cable running along that side by the road. To be fair, with wind head on it would have been no problem.. I launched, the wing turns to the wind..I go for it...running uphill..bloody hell this is hard work..power cable looming...commit or stop..commit or...up I go, immediate turn left and make it over the trees - I love that Revo2... So, a deeply unimpressive excercise..I aint doing that again..too confident after the last flight. However, I have to say I now have a reference point when I come to a slightly dodgy launch field area or slightly difficult conditions..I can say to myself 'It's bad..but it aint as bad as that day..' Anyone else like to share a poor decision or something that could of gone bad but you got away with it??
  24. Contact me when your ready i'll give you the local info David.reckitt(at)gmail.com
