  1. Desktop = iMac Laptop = Macbook Neither of mine are particularly new but both are well up to the job. I use iMovie to edit & Mpeg stream clip to chop up the go pro footage & to cross convert.
  2. Sam, I recently learned (& am sitll learning something every time I fly) & the vast majority of my training was on a Dudek Synthesis (reflex wing). If you are reasonably physically fit you shouldn't have a problem learning on a reflex wing. When you start flying with other pilots it will soon become clear that reflex is the way to go. The only real downsides are if you are not so fit a non reflex wing would be a bit easier to launch. Reflex wings (from what I've seen) tend to land a bit faster - this caught me out a few times until my brain became accustomed to the ground rush, but that's something I enjoy the sensation of now. In my personal opinion a non reflex wing may be a good idea for your first few flights then I would move to a reflex wing as soon as you got your take offs & landings sussed. BTW the Synth is a C rated wing (with trims out & on bar) but is widely regarded as a safe, benign starter wing) so the ratings don't always tell the whole story. Hope this helps Phil
  3. So the Bulldog is good, the wing is fin, the leg is mending. Now onto the important business. Nurses! Send sit rep!
  4. Simon, Don't worry your time will come. There will be someone out there for you too. PM me your number too & if it doesn't work out with Meds I'll give you a call.
  5. Meds, Could you PM me your number if you are interested in a flying partner. Am working in the Midlands for a few months & need to get my feet off the ground!
  6. Mmmmmm pies! Long time no see Steve. how are you doing?
  7. Wish I could but moving up to Midlands to start my 3 month work detachment. On the plus side should have plenty of time to fly, just need to find some pilots near Birmingham to fly with. Will definitely be popping back down every now & then for a few cheeky flights around this area too!
  8. I agree. Not knocking Apple at all. I've been an Apple convert for over 5 years & would not consider using anything else. Still an expensive exercise for them though - although it looks more like a third party supplier than an Apple mistake.
  9. That's good news. not got round to putting mine in the post yet. Looking forwards to a shiny new iPod now then! Could be an expensive mistake for Apple.
  10. You're right. That is good. Thanks for that Stu Also like the fact that if you click on the restricted airspace it gives you the limitations. Well that's one question answered, now looking for someone to fly with...
  11. Well I've just been 'volunteered' for a 3 month stint of work near Tamworth, starting in January. That's far too long for me not to be flying so the paramotor will be coming along too. Before I get too excited though could someone give me an idea of what the airspace is like in that part of the world? If it's flyable I'll buy a map, but not if it's a non-starter. Does anyone fly in that area. If so I'm up for as much flying as I can get in if the weather decides to co-operate. Thanks
  12. I always carry a Leatherman & an allen key for the prop bolts. I've recently bulked this up with some duct tape & zip ties. In the other harness side pocket I carry the inner wing bag & strap so I can bag the wing up & carry it with the motor. Always take the mobile too just in case with google latitude app so anyone else with the app can find me. There are a couple of things that you've listed that I may add though.
  13. Steve My fault, I didn't make it all that clear. I have the chassis which is small, light galvanised steel with decent suspension. Built by zee Germans so I imagine it will be spot on. This is the base on which I intend to build the box body. It's the building of the box that I need help with.
  14. I am in the process of starting my Paramotor carrying trailer, for which I'll probably start a new thread (with a few photo's & build description). Prior to that though I need a bit of advice from someone with more engineering knowledge than me. The frame is Galvanised steel with decent suspension onto which I plan to build the box. I'm looking at something around 1.5m long, 1m wide & 1.5m high - The Bulldog cage is 1.4m. So my questions: 1. Anyone after a few beer tokens to make the frame or knows of anyone good in the Guildford area who can do this? 2. What's the best strength vs price cladding? I'm looking at ply or possibly ACM panels if I can get any for a decent price. Would prefer something (frame & cladding) that I don't have to fanny about painting every 5 minutes to keep it looking decent. Any thoughts would be appreciated at this point before I finalise my plans.
  15. I'm not happy... My Bulldog is back (good turnaround by the way - 2 days to cure my OCD niggles & to have a few little tweaks). Now can we have some half decent weather so I can get out & fly it? Please. I'm considering hiring it out as a leaf blower - anyone got any more suggestions on alternative uses for a paramotor for when the weather's crap?
  16. Clive, Looking forward to the videos you are going to post. What are the new ideas - I'm all interested now! Are they going on here or Youtube/Vimeo??
  17. Mark, I would love to do the IOW trip, it's one of the things I looked at during training & has always been an aspiration. Just frustrated that work & the weather seem to be keeping me grounded recently - still it can't last forever! Looking forwards to some smooth winter air.
  18. Update on my last post. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a phone call from Steve Haze (who I bought my Bulldog from). Both he & Clive were concerned that I might have problems with my Bulldog & wanted to sort these out ASAP. To be honest I'm not that concerned that I feel anything really needs sorting - I'm just being a bit OCD. But it's good to know that there is genuine concern about a customer. My views on my Bulldog are elsewhere on this forum (and in my post above)but to reiterate: If I won the lottery & could buy any Paramotor I wanted, I would save my money & keep my Bulldog.
  19. I like mine. I haven't flown anything else to compare it with but never really felt the need - I felt comfortable with it from the start. It's done 11 hours in the past few months with no problems. There are a few minor niggles but as far as I am concerned the positives outweigh these. P.M me if you want to know anything specific
  20. Hi, I've flown with a group who are fairly well established and often fly in the Bath/Bristol area. Might be worth trying to tie in with them as they are a friendly bunch and are experienced pilots (much more so than me), with a good knoledge of the area (ie Bristol airspace limitations). If you managed to get a few extra flying sites in the area that would only be a good thing - I'm working on a couple myself at the moment. Look forwards to flying together soon. Phil

    Mac misery?

MPEG Streamclip is good for file conversions (& free). Don't know if it does AVCHD, but I've used it before on GoPro footage & been impressed. Might be worth a go?
  22. Thermal liner zipped into flying suit, good to go. I'm in!
  23. I'm a bit worried about what you were searching for to find this! Don't think I would choose to do it with a friend, but work looks like it could be a goer!
  24. Wish I could have a 4 stroke but the ear bending I would get from the wife would be unbearable. Ref security of the trailer I have a motorcycle chain lock, a lock that secures the trailer to the towbar, a wheel lock, a shed alarm for inside the trailer & 2 large dogs. Also planning to lock the motor onto the trailer If anyone gets round that they deserve a paramotor! In addition any DIY I do usually looks like it was done with explosives so no one would think there was anything worth stealing. My motor will be going in upright as the prop sticks out the back & I don't like the idea of fuel spilling out.
