  1. This is a little bit into the future, but I thought it was quite interesting - http://www.eastchurchpc.kentparishes.gov.uk/default.cfm?pid=543 I have recently flown over the Isle of Sheppey, so am thinking of contacting the organisers to see if I can do anything to help. Flying displays, fund raising etc? I think that our form of flying fits in nicely with the pioneering spirit of those early days. Might help gain access to additional interesting sites, so may even be able to form a Kent branch of the club in the near future! Weather looking good for an early flight tomorrow! Best regards, Ian.
  2. I feel bad for Colin, but how beautiful were the two wings at sunset?? That's what it's all about! Best regards, Ian.
  3. I use a one piece motorbike waterproof suit by Weise. It's got useful pockets for radio and GPS, calf zips to make it easy to pull on over boots and is very snug and windproof with good closure at the neck, wrists and ankles. A bit sweaty on the ground on a hot day but a good incentive to get off 1st time before you melt! Best regards, Ian.

    Saudi Fly in.

Should have used this link instead He shorted it out with his knife, which he hit with a hammer!! Don't know that I'd want to be that close when it went off, but then he is a self professed highly skilled idiot!! Best regards, Ian.

    Saudi Fly in.

Why would anyone object to carrying Li-Pol batteries on their airliner???? Joking aside, it must be possible to transport an electric paramotor on an aircraft. How did Giles get the ePac back here from China to fly at the UK nationals?
  6. I stow the GPS safely away for takeoff/landing in my thigh pocket. I stuck male velcro on the back of the GPS and a patch of female velcro on the knee of the suit next to the thigh pocket (heavy duty sticky backed velcro from woolworths) . The lanyard is attached through a slit which I cut in the top of the pocket under the flap so that it cannot escape! Best regards, Ian.
  7. Coming back to this subject - Has anyone used anything other than the standard blades on a Parajet compact? If so, please can you let me know what worked and what didn't? Also any contact details for suppliers would be great. Haven't got around to ordering the Canadian ground adjustables yet as I would like to source something in the UK if possible. Best regards, Ian.
  8. I can't believe you actually posted that as a comment on their website!!!! Pure class!!
  9. I nearly wet meself laughing when the Top Gun music started!!! Hardly an F4 Tomcat - And he's no Tom cruise!!!
  10. Hi Steve. Welcome, and great choice of machine!! I am sure that you are going to love this sport! Best regards, Ian.
  11. My Norton antivirus, also latest version didn't pick up anything. Is this a dodgy application Pete? Thanks for the other tips Wayne. I couldn't get mapsource working properly on my PC, but then I was trying to download it for free as I didn't like any of the official Garmin maps for flying so didn't want to buy a map just to get mapsource. Thanks also for the steer towards Mr J Mouse!! Best regards, Ian.
  12. My eTrex Vista c came through ebay without any software or decent maps, and looking at the Topo maps on the Garmin site they didn't appeal to me. I searched and raked over loads of sites and maps. The outcomes are distilled below. Free maps, viewer and map upload software available as follows - Map viewer (GPSMapEdit) - http://geopainting.com/en Garmin air maps (GARMINAIRUK.zip/GARMINAIRUKT.zip) - http://ukgarminairmap.wikispaces.com/latestfiles Map files (some completely useless, but some absolute gems that I use) - http://garminmapsearch.com/ I use sendmap20 to send maps to the GPS. Available from - http://www.cgpsmapper.com/buy.htm#standard I couldn't find a way to get the official Mapsource software to upload/download waypoints etc for free, even though this website shows how to. Maybe you might have more luck? http://freegeographytools.com/2007/garmin-mapsource-for-free My GPS came with a data lead, but if you don't have one it is a generic USB lead as used for Tom Tom or other devices. I hope this is useful to someone? If anyone has any other info, it would be gratefully received!!! Best regards, Ian.
  13. Oh, do you mean the photo wasn't to scale? Nice bit of kit. I looked at it when I was buying my GPS but budget didn't go that far so bought an eTrex Vista C which I love to bits. What maps is it coming with? I found some great free ones and upload software if you would like the websites? Best regards, Ian.
  14. What's that? A GPS for the visually impaired? Even my dad would be able to see the buttons on that! Hope you've got plenty of spare thrust? You'll need it to get that in the air - It looks huge!! Best regards, Ian.
  15. Yeah, at least the guy who took this photo had the sense to wait until after he had landed!! (and probably changed his pants first too!) http://www.paraglidingforum.com/download.php?id=13111 Better to wait to take the picture safely rather than have the CAA accident investigator do it for you! Best regards, Ian.
  16. I saw this on a paragliding forum. It sent shivers down my spine so I thought I'd share it with you. http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/curriefly/VariousParagliding/photo#5207706416628958898 Best regards, Ian.
  17. Looks like there's going to be a bit of a party at Stonehenge on the Friday night/Saturday morning - http://www.efestivals.co.uk/festivals/stonehenge/2008/ Could be up for a dawn flight over Avebury on the Saturday morning if the weather will play ball. Where could we take off/land? Best regards, Ian.
  18. What a brilliant document!! Thanks for sharing it with us. That must have taken you ages and tons of hard work to put together. It's pitched just right to make a confusing subject understandable. Have you considered getting it published? It is a very polished product and so many people, including but far wider than the paramotoring community would find it valuable. Thanks again, Ian.
  19. New smaller mesh (20mm) netting fitted. Will hopefully not have any more brake handle meeting prop incidents! This netting was much more of a pain in the backside to fit. It needed to be held taut while it was cable tied on. I used bungie cords with metal hooks on the end attached to my garden swing to hold the netting tight, then suspended the cage panel next to the netting with nylon cord to hold the weight while I went around tieing the two together. I found some much smaller ties (200mm x 2.5mm) for the outher circumference which will be less likely to catch the lines. Overall pic - Close-up pic - Good luck with fitting yours - If you're as cack handed as me then you'll need plenty of patience! Best regards, Ian. p.s. Do you like the repaired props????
  20. Hi Chris - looks good, especially in flight! Link below to help people find it easily - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220246744787 Good luck selling it! Best regards, Ian.
  21. Hi Mike I fly out of my instructor Andys' field at the top of Detling Hill near Maidstone. He has other fields, including on Sheppey which I have yet to fly out of and I have access to some fields a bit further away in New Romney. I will have a check with Andy but am sure that you would be most welcome to join us if we get to fly on the weekend. Best regards, Ian. PM sent.
  22. Feral youth receiving poetic justice!! ..............................help me!........................help me!!! url tabs removed and youtube tabs inserted made this video play in a window in this page. edit by admin
  23. Yeah, thanks for that! Made me feel much better about being grounded while I wait for the prop to be fixed and new brake line/handle to arrive in the post! started off with a full cup of tea....... watched some crap tele Went cold at a 3rd of a cup left Filled back up...... watched some even more awful tele with the misses. and ended up with a 1/4 of a cup of cold tea 3 hours + rubbish tele in one evening. ...........................................but genuinely glad that you both had some great flying! Best regards, Ian.
  24. My props are with Keith (Pete Searles mate) at the moment being fixed after making contact with a brake handle. He works with Pete near Tunbridge Wells. I can give you his mobile number is available if you PM me, to save publishing it for the world to spam! Will post before and after shots when I get them back so you can gauge how good the repair is. Sorry this is not much help if your prop has demolished itself. I am seriously considering a 3 bladed ground adjustable prop from the Canadian company GSC (website below) as a much cheaper spare to keep in a cupboard just in case of any future mishaps. Not sure about the effect of the additional weight though? PeteB and v23nb have pics of their 2 bladed versions in the album. http://www.ultralightprops.com/ppg_props/ppgprops.htm Best regards, Ian.
  25. See if you can get HIS name and address............ Then share it with us and we can all start sending pizzas, skips, jehovahs witnesses etc, etc to his house!!!!! Juvenile but still worth a chuckle and he will wonder where it's all coming from!!! Best regards, Ian.
