  1. The roadster 2 is reflex the kona is not. The roadster 2 should be faster and have more stability at speed. If ozone had speed figures as a guide, it would be more obvious. Roadster 1 was not reflex.
  2. Yes, I knew that. I was joking about comparison I did think though as mentioned above someone else could think its as good a machine, just dated and an ebayer selling a radne on would get 3k worth of bids and an unhappy buyer. So it was worth a note.
  3. Parajet won't be pleased with you comparing the Maverick to the Rad Need to explain for the ones who got into the sport after things like the radne raket < yes it was actually called the raket, you can still buy them, still make a raket to. The rad was fine at its time. Compared now, the only thing similar is the weight. The prop size, thrust, noise, portability, comfort, weight shift, build quality are all very different. Its like comparing a Lada to a Focus 1litre eco, yes its got 4 doors small engine ;) Light weight machines have been around all the time, miniplane being the most known but there were all sort of euro motors that I can't remember the names of. There was lots of weight and power claims and thats all they were. I had a fly products solo at 22kg which actually weighed 28kg it had a claimed thrust of 60kg which was actually 37kg. Things have improved on that scale. The eos puts out a measured 50kg-55kg of thrust. The eos 150 has been running for while but not properly released till it can run reliably, same for their 4 stroke. Good healthy competition to keep all the manufacturers on their toes. the 2 competing models now would be Miniplane top80 and the Maverick Eos 100 Booster Its good nowadays to have such a choice of decent machines. In the past it was a choice of the good one or the duff one.
  4. Good review here: says an average noise reduction of 25-30dB https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-noise-cancelling-in-ear-headphones/
  5. A quick video I did, opening up an Ozone Spyder, ground check and packing backup but in the Ozone Saucisson Light Bag 300grams, not much info out there on this bag but I really like this light versions it has no zips, using over laying clips and straps. Zips can hurt your wing. It fits in a side pocket or under a seat. The Spyder does not want to deflate though. I was doing a running commentary but got interrupted by a phone, a person, a plane, a lorry and an ice cream van. I abandoned that idea and just did a fast benny hill style video, left the sound natural at high speed. You can see in the video. Ozone Back Pack Easy bag. Again no zips, its a roundish quick pack bag / backpack combo. Inner wing bag. Riser bag. The long one is the saucisson light bag (concertina pack) I use this exclusively now, my easy quick pack bag and inner wing bag are packed away in a box. I like the secure compact nature of the concertina, its quick enough when you get the hang of it, its like a folding assistant to help you. As its compact I can protect my wing in a sealed box away from vermin. No tangles as everything is held secure. Inflate was good for the fact I am on a factory estate and surrounded by buildings.
  6. Yes I find they are really that good. I don't think you would wear them under ear defenders successfully as they poke out a little bit and need to be fitted just right, the defenders would push on the wire and possibly pop the pods out of your ear with the leverage. If you have tinnitus, just try some anr at a shop. No need for music, turn it on and feel the silence. If you have a Bose shop near you, they will have demo sets in store. From my own testing. Unbranded ear defenders, peltor optime2 then peltor optime3 then peltor1 to my chinese anr sets, these were the quietest of the bunch, easily surpassing the pelters, my friends plane had £1200 Bose head units, so I started trying different ANR headphones and mostly they were so so, the bose do a great job. Learning how the ANR worked and a little about acoustic chambers, i.e. the cup that is part of peltor, over head headphones etc, that is where the last of the noise was coming from, as much as it reduced pitch noises like engine and exhaust the air thump of the prop was the one that I would still suffer from. Came to the idea that ANR in ear pods would be great as the anr is working just on the ear canal only, a tiny space with very little to no echo. It worked and worked well, what noise comes through the bose cancels very effectively. They are not a perfect seal plus your head itself is quite a cavity for noise. A simple test I devised: Humm to your self, a low continuous hum from the throat. Now put your hand over your ears, the humm gets louder.. This is ear defenders. Try again but this time put your fingers in your ears, this is what good ANR sounds like. A demo I used to do with the Chinese ANR headset was to humm, and the switch it on. It went from cupped echo to fingers in ears feeling. Its just like someone moved the noise to another room and shut the door.. its there but its quieter. What could be improved? If bose made metal backed earplug style headphones with ANR, that would be a bit a of both and perfect.
  7. it says I have used my attachment limit. There an attachment limit? Why, Im hosting the pictures on my flickr account? Can it be raised?
  8. This is still my current preferred setup. Personally, not for everyone. Paramotor helmet ear defenders by Surfer Vince, on Flickr I have snowboard helmet, bose qc20, sent 20s, gopro session5. What I like. Its the quietest noise elimination I can find which also boasts good sound. I like music while flying and actually find myself turning this one down. I like the fact there are no wires between body and head. The Sena is super clear, forget m101 pics, the electronics in the sena have me trying to convince people I am flying, they cannot hear the engine. I once switched to FaceTime to prove it. What I dislike. Its a bit messy, the Bose QC20 battery is cable tied to the from of the helmet just above my brow. If its not charged then they are poor ear plugs, it relies heavily on the excellent base anr. It picks up some wind noise on the headphones, which is why I use a ski snow helmet with fluffy sides to reduce this. Still quieter than muffs. The sena to send comms is great if your mate also has a sena. If you want to connect radio then you buy another box to make the radio wireless.
  9. I watched a SirEdmund single skin being ground handled and it just sat there when I didn't even notice any wind, I think its held up by the centrifugal forces of the earth rotating, yeah thats all it can be, or maybe the heat rising off the pilot kept it up, the thing was ridiculous. I certainly noticed how easy my Freeride is to launch over past wings its 4.5kg and past wings were 6kg+ my old fusion 29 was 8.8kg so things are moving forward. Ozones Ultralite 4 is 2.4kg for a double skin glider, interesting how that could be for ppg, light weight wings were always viewed as pointless for paramotor, until they started looking at launch characteristics. From that you can see the Spyder is still well built compared to what is currently possible.
  10. I worked the other way. 19.5% heavier. Ozone Spyder 26 - 4.75kg Ozone Roadster 26 - 5.68kg 4.75 x 19.5% = 0.92 + 4.75 = 5.67 or 5.68 - 16% = 4.77 either way it is 930 grams. nearly 1kg, not quite.
  11. I liked the for secret camper, only problem is sleeping in it, one day you will wake up at 50mph attached to someone elses ford transit, you know the type
  12. I have had a good look at the Pluma, the carbon looks pretty and the main chassis is fairly strong. Problems occur is you did have an accident a little harder than the test video, which to be fair all but the most basic alloy frame will withstand bum landings. Its when you land hard that the carbon breaks and you have to buy a new very expensive chassis. Where as alloy ones are cheaper and titanium ones will bend back. The weight saving is not huge, infact the chassis with carbon arms is still heavier than my titanium Air Conception frame with titanium arms. Also not the small print. The moster engine, the only real choice from Adventure as the eole is not quite well, the moster is the only choice. Pluma Moster is 23.8kg without the harness is my understanding, so add on 2.6kg average for the harness. Now it could be 26kg. I didn't get to lift the one I was looking at. I did lift just the chassis and its nice and they always feel light without and engine so I was not fooled. I would also look at the Parajet Maverick Moster or Air Conception Nitro and also have a look at the F-Light Nirvana Get accurate weights and expected power / reliability. There is more to paramotor ownership than initial looks. Servicing, repairs, support, reliability, weight, fuel consumption, strength and fixability. Pluma, nice looking machine. The far fetched figures quoted always makes me wonder. How come just their moster is quoted at 80-85 kg thrust, that then puts doubts into the rest of the numbers. Weight is from 23.85kg.. what do they mean from? Worth asking.
  13. AndyB: 19.5% lighter.. nearly 20%. think of it this way 1kg at 4m away. Steve, yes they are cheating, so unfair. I learned with a knitted flying blanket that you had to run into wind even if it was 10mph. Beginners need to work for it, get dragged about in the mud and sweat, only then do we know they can be accepted into our odd community. I am not suggesting its a good wing to learn first ground handling attempts on, I would suggest its a good first wing to own. Soon as someone has the fundamentals to keep a basic wing above their head, swap to this and it will be so much easier to launch, saving props, falls, stumbles etc. Its a wing, you still have to stay under the centre but can do it in less wind with less chance of dragging as in stronger winds. A few pilots have them now and they are raving about it, one feedback was its night and day compared his previous wing. I wouldn't suggest upgrading an existing roadster2 owner to a spyder, the difference is not enough for the expense. If your buying that sort of wing, consider the extra cost and benefits. Weigh them up for yourself. Plus consider re-sale in 2-4 years. Which will be in more demand.
  14. I think the reason is price. As for longevity, wear and wing care. I would say someone reliably launching and having less time ground handling would actually make the wing last longer, up and fly rather than up, down, to the side, upside down etc. The lighter wing launches more easily and reliably on nill to low wind days. Less power and effort is rammed in on launch = less stress. 5mph and above the difference gets less as you have the wind to help lift a heavier wing. Its those light days that are the nicest to fly and the light days beginners find hardest. When the wing is pulled up and dropped back down it comes down a little more gently, it floats down and again reduces friction just a little bit with the ground. That said if you walked across a runway dragging the wing, be it neither will do well but I would say the lighter one could fair worse for ultimate abrasion.
  15. I have said to a few people I think the Spyder is one of if not the best beginner Paramotor wing. Its lighter weight makes it easy to launch and forgiving of mistakes. The wing just hangs there waiting for input, begging to fly. I just come across a great youtube video which shows how easy it is. You can see the wind is light, barely blowing 5mph it looks. The key element to a beginner is reliable easy successful launching. Easy for an experienced pilot to make any wing look good, but when beginners pull up the spyder after ground handling something else is great to see.
  16. That in-between speedster and viper is what attracted me to the free ride. As fun to fly as a viper but a little more easy to live with like there speedster. I would say its more viper than speedster in design. Think de-tuned viper rather than highly tuned speedster. I would like to try speedster and spyder in 20m sizes. Loading up the spyder could be fun or maybe still a bit to stable.
  17. Very observant. I don’t think it was about to explode though. I felt pretty safe ?
  18. I have some experience with XL. I have just a couple out there being flown. The larger diameter appears to have a bit more flex with the leverage. The standard titanium Race is stiffer for sure. All the XL’s are owned by taller pilots.
  19. Yes that was my standby battery just while I was testing. The bagged one was on charge.
  20. When I first used to get oscillation on my GTR, I learned to sit still and it was gone. Looking down to the ground and up to the wing would change my motor angle and induce oscillation. Crossing my legs helped. I remember a day with rougher weather and trims out I could not reduce it no matter, I just couldn't time the inputs. Slowed the trim and cancelled it with brake inputs. If its all new to you, it takes time to learn the correct timing. I can cancel in 1 brake pull now typically. A pull on 1 tip is often enough to keep it in check.
  21. this is the simplest rack I ever made.
  22. combining hobbies with that one. not sure on the aerodynamics though... love it
  23. Yes some if the wether is not so good. If I sit still and the wether is nice, no problem. I would say its neutral as in it does not settle by itself, but does not oscillate by itself. On the GTR, GTX I shortened the tips a little as this will centre a wing and stop oscillation, I suspect that is what Tucker has done to this free ride. I will try doing that myself also, first though I have moved brake handles from upper to lower position, this needs another adjustment. Once happy with that, I will look at tip line length. The upper brake position has elasticated pulleys and gave a much more free feeling to the brakes, I could feel more and move my hand around more. In the lower pulley position the pulley is tight against the risers and gives a much tighter feel all round, it is both good and bad. More reactive but feels heavier. Lower is nice though. Just needs getting used to. I may lengthen the brake line a little more as I have zero slack right now. After that, I will tighten tips a bit more. Another trick on XC wings is keep the tips connected to the B riser. When releasing trimmers the tips effectively get a little shorter. Soon as you get a tiny bit of cupping at the tip, this mostly stops oscillation.
