Looking to record the sounds of a paramotor.

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I'm a freelance sound editor and I've got a project coming up that includes a lot of footage of a paramotor in flight.  I can't find an existing library of sound effects featuring paramotors, so it looks like we'll have to make our own.

I thought this might be a good place to post a request and ask if anyone within driving distance of Bristol, where I'm based, would be up for doing a recording session somewhere?  I can't offer a fee, but would be happy to cover expenses and pay for lunch in return.

If this interests anyone, please feel free to drop me a line.  My name is Owen Shirley, email- owengshirley@gmail.com, phone 07947 576998.

Thanks

I assume you have already booked a pilot for the filming work. Am I being deft by asking why you dont capture the audio at that time? Not being a smart arse, Im genuinely interested.

Not a daft question at all.  To explain, firstly the footage has already been shot.  However, most cameras don't come with built in microphones, and those that do are usually of very poor quality.  So nearly all of the sound that you hear on a film or TV program is added during the editing process.

I've worked as a camera operator for years and that's news to me! Who'd shoot paramotors without sorting out audio at the same time?

People who work differently to you :)
I always found audio a pain in the ass and expensive.

It's daft to not record audio in the first place as you've still got to go out and get the audio afterwards (like the OP has to).

On a more positive note, I have paramotor audio Owen is welcome to if he still needs it, mostly from video shot at fly-ins and recorded on decent mics.
