  1. Congratulations Simon, that is great news. While you are being modest I think it is worth saying that if it wasn't for the foresight and the passion of people like yourself then these types of forum would not exist. I have not been a member that long but in the short space of time everyone has been so friendly and I have learnt so much. This forum can only benefit the sport further so keep up the good work!!
  2. Have a good trip Simon. Remember us lot wrapped up in raincoats, sipping coffee to keep warm..... Roll on some sun or at least some better weather.
  3. Sorry Simon, can you repeat that? Did quite hear you....
  4. I'd seen the trailer for the show but missed it this morning as don't have kids.... Maybe it will be on BBC iPlayer or YouTube. Which episode is it??
  5. Not sure about the night time shot, think these are those chinese lanterns that everyone were launching. They work just like a hot-air ballon using a nightlight candle. A very pretty site and from that picture I can see why the mistake was made....
  6. I didn't get a T-Shirt with my new Revo.... Gutted!!
  7. If you're looking for excellent customer service then you will find it hard to beat ParaJet, as many here will agree. The fact that they are UK based is also a bonus in my opinion. As farmer Dave said, try some out and make an informed decision. Good luck!
  8. Welcome to the forum. Indeed, as stated above it is probably better to invest in some lessons to see if you like the sport first. During that time you can then save some more money for kit. I think spending a reasonable amount on kit is sensible as at the end of the day, you put your life in the hands of your wing and motor. If buying second-hand it is probably advisable to take along someone with a bit of experience and who knows what to look out for, again this is where an instructor can come in handy. Stick around here and you will get lots of insight and advice, everyone is friendly and willing to lend a hand if they can. Teaming up with pilots local to you will also be beneficial in finding out about this great sport and you'll also have people to fly with once you take to the skies. Good luck buddy!
  9. If you are unable to offer sponsorship, why not support the expedition by making a donation?? http://www.theincrediblewebsite.org/cha ... _donation/ Your kind donation will help support people affected by Ataxia and fund research into causes and potential treatments. Every pound they receive from public donations will go directly to Ataxia UK. For those that are interested in the progress of the Electric Paramotor will be able to track the expedition through the website, along with pilot blogs etc...
  10. Wonder if my new REVO has this then..... How can I tell??
  11. Nice one guys. Totally gutted I couldn't make it, really itching to move forward with training. New tyres should be here tomorrow so fingers crossed for the next good flying day.... Look forward to seeing some pics and vids.....
  12. Thanks guys!! Great vids Morgy, much appreciated. Will try this method the next time I get the wing out.... With the stuff sack method, do you just make a rose and then dump it into the stuff sack?? Indeed, my Revo rucksack has a drawstring sack sown on the inside, you also get another bag with it.
  13. Hi All, I have recently purchased a Revo 28 and would like some advice on packing it away.... My normal method is to start at the wing tips and make little folds to the centre. Then fold the two halves on top of each other and to then make folds pushing the air towards the cell openings.... However, I recently read somewhere that it is not a good idea to get creases into the mylars (which to my limited understanding are the walls of the cells). Can anyone shed some best practice advice and tips on packing away to help the longevity of my new wing.... Thanks in advance!
  14. Awesome mate, hope the second week goes well and enjoy the practice inbetween. I am SOOOO jealous!! Can't wait to get in the air.
  15. Will try and make it this week but I managed to rip a massive hole in my tyre last week coming down the track and still waiting for a replacement to be delivered so not able to use the car until fixed....
  16. Congrats on the landing Malcs... hope the next one goes just as well.
  17. Congrats on your first flight!!! What an awesome first landing too, hope I manage to stay on my feet when I do mine....
  18. Phil :: After the turn the riser are crossed. If you hold and turn them as one 'unit' then this puts the crossover in. Simon :: Video sounds like an excellent idea. Maybe you could do a series of them to help students. Would be especially useful for reference in between lessons when we want to practice at home.
  19. Love the cartoon Norman, that's what's going through my head when I look at some of the weather charts.... lol
  20. To clip in for a reverse launch I hold the risers so that the A's are facing upwards. I then to a 180 degree turn of the risers to the left so that the A's are pointing towards the ground. Then I simply clip the riser into the closest karabiner. To lauch the wing, I take the brake on my left into my left hand and the one on the right in my right hand. I then take the A's in my left hand and my D's in the right hand. I can then pull on the A's to bring the wing up and the D's to bring the wing down. The other note is the brakes, and something I still have to get my brain to work on, the brake in the left hand controls to right side of the wing and visa-versa. So if the wing is going towards the left, you move left and use the brake on the left. Probably not explained very well as I'm still learning myself but can recommend a book such as "The Powered Paragliding Bible" which has alot of good info in it although it is aimed at the American market. Good luck and enjoy your flying!!
  21. Thanks guys for all your replies, much appreciated. Have signed up for free membership at the MetOffice, blimey!! Those maps are quite complex , not sure I totally understand much of what it is supposed to be telling me ..... Still, no doubt we all have to start somewhere. Will look at getting a paid-up membership at one of the others as well once I have worked out what I'm looking at....
  22. Are people still planning on going to the flagpole tomorrow evening??
  23. Hey Guys, Just wanted to ask everyone what websites they use to get weather forecasts from?? At the moment I tend to use Metcheck and more recently the Metoffice but I am finding that the forecasts are vastly different. For example, today Metcheck says the wind will be 4mph with gusts of 5mph. However, Metoffice say winds of 6mph with gusts of 17mph. Which is the most accurate?? What should I base my decision on?? Any thoughts and insights would be greatly received. Thanks.
