  1. I also came from a free flying background HG then PG then PPG, My first wing was the Paramania Fusion EN C... I then bought the Speedster when it came out and loved it... It would hold its own when on the Hill until it started to get scratchy. But when the wind got up I would be the only one flying with pilots grounded on there PG wings..

As i said you would get bored and upgrade from the R2 very quickly!! If you do go up a level make sure you put the hours in and fly it in light non thermic conditions and build up to your PG conditions tolerance... All reflex PPG wing will feel heavy compared to your PG wing so will take time to get used to the feel and handling..

I would say your more than welcome to come and test fly some wings but it may be to far to come and visit...   Are you close to annecy? If so PM me i may be able to help with a demo close to you with Jean mateos

  2. Make sure you check out the certification for those wings.. I think you will find they are uncertified!!  I am assuming your a new ish pilot as your asking about weight ranges so Make sure you stick with in the weight range and buy a glider that has been tested and was designed for PPG not a 10-15 year old Paraglider design. Low hour PPG pilots should stick with ENA or B...

  3. If you would like any advice on the Ozone range of PPG wings feel free to give me a call...

I came form a free flying back ground and love thermalling ridge soaring with my Mac Fly 250..  I would put money on you getting bored with your Mentor 3 when you want to start extending your XC flying.   Ask your self if it's a great thermal day would you rather go PG or PPG flying?  if your going to use your Paramotor when its high pressure benign conditions your better off with a smaller PPG wing to cover more distance.. if a mix of Ridge and thermal PPG buy bigger..

I Like the Viper 4 for the lift, agility and efficiency but this will be to advanced, The Speedster 2 is a step down but still a great wing for all round flying, another step down would be the roadster 2, As your an experienced PG Pilot i think you will think this is heavy and not very agile when your trying to core a small thermal and will be upgrading very quickly.

  4. If foot flight is 2h30m away you may want to think about going over to Spain to train and get it done in a couple of weeks in the SUN!!

Barry Gardeners field in Guildford would be closer for flying but is £10 a day..

Andy shaw at green dragons.. this is £150+ a year

    Simon Westmore PMC

There are not really "Clubs" most are just a group of guys who fly together... Meeting other pilots can be tricky for new pilots, It's best to get your training done and go to fly in's and meet people that way...

  5. Hi...

Cage size depends on a few things... Mac Fly and other brands..

The Mac Fly Thor 80 is only available in 128 and 138.. I wouldn't bother with the 128 unless your short and very light, (we have a 65kg pilot flying a 250 with 138 cages) Reducing the cage size reduces the prop size and ultimately reducing Thrust from a small engine..  The 1.5m cage is really only needed for those who want more power form the Thor 250 or there flying with a trike, standard output is around 90kg.. I have a 250 with standard cage and really only need more power for international level Slalom comp flying with a 16m..

Cages now also come in two styles Standard and the New folding cage for easier transport, These are more expensive so you might be better of going for standard cage section. You can always upgrade to the folding cages in the future.

Being the UK importer for Mac Fly we have a few Mac Fly's in stock ready for PDI and handover.  If you would like to come and view the Thor 80 your more than welcome.

  6. your main issue will be airspace around your area....   I run Sussex Paramotors just south of chichester, We don't Train new pilots but have a huge site in Hambrook and we do take newly trained pilots under our wing to make sure there safe to fly before letting them loose in our area...  For our customers i generally advise them to train abroad as they can get trained to BHPA standard in a shorter time.  If you would like any advice please feel free to call me on 07867317307

I would highly recommend Alex from Footflight if your looking to learn in the UK...

    see my answers above.

So you think I could contrast the tendency of going left by closing just a little bit more the right trim ? or better to open a little bit the left ?

As written, i do takeoff and fly in nill wind with 1/3 of trimmers opened

If your turning and you have to add weight or offset trims to make you fly straight that's a Poorly designed machine!!!

  8. Had to edit my post.. Lack of sleep during the comp effecting my brain cell.. ;-)

    Hann

The world eco figure were a thermal task IE Pure eco but thermal activity switched off half way through.. The UK Open figure were also a pure eco but with no thermal..

I do use an adjustable pitched prop and does make a difference in the fuel burn figures.. We have pilots on Mac fly 250 claiming ave fuel burn figures around 3lph flying small snakes 16-18-20m most are around 80-90kg

If you really want to squeeze every drop out of your machine you can very very Anal about jetting and pitch,

In flight speeds are ave 41kph slow fast trims 50-55kph  65+ on bar

Icarus uk result- macfly polini 250, mark Morgan , approx 2.5l per hour viper 4 18

That was running standard jetting and standard prop pitch, Uk Open i managed to get 2.14lph and in testing down to 2lph on my 18m.. Looking at comp Eco task results can give you a false figure if you do not understand the task that was set..

    UK open pure eco 2.14lph

Worlds Pure eco 1h 17m on 1.5kg of fuel..

Viper 4 18m with my 250 ave 19/20Km per litre...  at the Worlds at Popham the top eco distance results were Polini 250 and 200's and i think one french pilot with a top 80 tunned to the limit with a PWK style carb...

The all-up weight was however much a motor weighs (minus a fuel tank which is plastic and not much). Paramotors are all heavy, the zenith is lighter than all the other motors I have seen and lifted up on the hill, but not by much. Light weight ones do not exist.

Cost was the price of a custom made strong cardboard box to the max dimensions the airline took (which a friend made for free) and then the excess baggage which was about £150 ish from memory. Way cheaper and more convenient than the courier quotes I had got too. Save weight on the box, you don't need anything fancy to check it onto a plane, just make sure it is well padded.

A Zenith is easy to repair cos you can just fix a single spar if necessary, not a whole piece.

Yes they are expensive... but they are good.

Light weight ones don't exist??  20kg for an AC and the Mac Fly range are 3-4kg lighter with the same engine fitted to Zen.  O.oxD

    Brilliant!

Any chance of a small summary as to how you achieved this Morgy?

What engine did you use (guessing Macfly 250) and how much thermalling and /or engine off time compared to using the engine.....or are you keeping that a trade secret.

    Once again, congratulations.

    Cheers.

Mac Fly250 running standard jets,18m Viper 4. No thermal flying... A bit of dolphin flying but no engine off.

  12. what exact info are you after?  Life span of a glider will depend where you live and where you fly... living in say Thailand your glider will die much quicker.. but Uk pilots don't really have to worry about UV depletion. I'm not sure how Ozone would give a life span on a glider?  Also the way you treat your wing will have a huge effect, packing and storing dry also packing lightly in a stuff sack will increase the Life span..

If your after Speed data, RPM vs Speed and fuel burn feel free to drop me a message

  13. The Viper 4 only has the lighter material on the lower surface, most of the UV depletion will occur on the top.. I guess with all light weight gliders it will depend on where to take off and land.  I am not an expert on the materials and there life span i guess time will tell...

  14. Hi

I have my 18m Viper 4 and it allowed me to gain 2nd at the UK open.. Amazing performance speed eco and agility, Im around 110kg all up 69kg pilot and find the 18m a good size for all round flying, I've not had the opportunity to thermal it for free fly it yet,

The Viper 4 reverse launches in very light winds and feels super stable when it's rough, even on full bar.. weight ranges to me are just a guide, It will depend what you want the wing for... But the extra glide and efficiency from this wing will allow you to fly smaller sizes for the same fuel burn.. Find your local dealer and go and test fly one before buying.
