  1. Did you get any further with this? I did get a quote from Taida... if my memory serves, £500+ without delivery (Taiwan) that included the J300 auto decompression cam/head/ cylinder and +10.2mm stroker crank. The Scout/EOS 232cc development has been quiet for some time now and that has me thinking there might be reliability issues with pushing the bore to 67mm (thin cylinder skirt)... I know they had oil breather issues that needed ironing out but I cant see that causing the abrupt quiet we have seen from them. I am assuming Bailey stuck with 65mm bore on the V5s (210cc) for reliabilities sake... why else would you not go for the full 67mm, the price will be very similar. Ill take reliability over the extra couple of horses... that's a big feature of a four stroke after efficiency.
  2. No worries. 10hrs is abnormally bad so a bit of tinkering ought to get you much better numbers than that... wiring is a good idea (ask me how I know ) I'm 90% sure your man in stress analysis will have some good pointers with just a glance at the design. I'm guessing the rubber band movement will be an artifact of the need for a lose (ish) fit... a great many exhausts have springs, rubber mounts and lose fits to allow enough movement to prevent focused stress points that will fail in short order... once one joint fails, the next stiffest joint will fail.
  3. After free flying standard wings for donkey's yeas, I found reflex unnerving (Niviuk Kougar 2) … it reacts differently to turbulence... not good or bad, just different (it doesn't pitch in the same way) and I never feel quite as safe as I used to when free-flying. On the up side, its relatively fast and doesn't oscillate. The only real way to quantify a difference would be an SIV on both types but assuming they both have the same classification, they ought to react very similar to standard departures. Dell lost my ear on the subject when he said "you cant push a string" implying that the "reflex" is not possible on a floppy wing... he is ether being dishonest or laboring under a misconception about fluid dynamics. I am assuming that leaves most of us treating the contents of Dell's character with a healthy dose of cautious skepticism.
  4. Ouch! Have the cylinder walls survived? The V5 has an unusual bore/stroke so its unlikely you will manage to cheapskate with a bargain bucket GY6 aftermarket kit without some serious head scratching.
  5. Just re-read this.... a rubber would very likely spread the focus of that stress point, I cant see it making things worse. Like asquaddie alludes to, the problem looks to be a highly focused stress point.
  6. Looking at the drawing, I am assuming it breaks the tab that sits against the bracket....? If your not a million miles away from Accrington Lanc's... ill weld those back together for you so you can experiment with your setup knowing you have a couple spares. I could maybe add a web on one side of one of them to see if transferring the stress to the other side of the knee onto the larger radius prevents any further breaks. One way or another, you have to move that stress point away from the center of that slot.
  7. Pretty sure its a design compromise. In order to avoid redundancy, the cage quarters have no vertical leg upon which to attach the net in permanent net setups. Instead, that leg is off to one side at the point most likely to take an impact in a stumble (protecting the ring and prop) I lace that gap up on mine as I have also seen those photos
  8. (Ebay) Cylinder (63mm) with piston £45 Complete cylinder Head £45 (if my memory serves) Full carb (£18 - 24mm Pre-V5) (£36 - 26mm V5/s) Cam £11 At these prices, it might be worth preemptively buying spares but I have yet to hear of any "large" failures on the Bailey motors so I'm not sure it makes sense. I understand your fears Simon and would feel exactly the same "if" I couldn't get hold of spares and did not have access to the infinite knowledge and kindness of strangers on the internet The Bailys four stroke gear is great in my experience... but like I say, unless you are willing to skin your knuckles, it "might" be best to avoid.
  9. Things aren't so bad if you have an early Baileys and your handy with the spanners... most parts can be bought from China through Ebay (slow but cheap). The V5 (s) big ticket spares are a bit more tricky, I think on those, the crank, cylinder, head and piston are a more exotic Taiwanese flavor. Not as cheap and trickier to ship.
  10. Hi Steve... I fly out of a field just north of Clitheroe (still a bit of a trek for you) I tend to fly for three hours+ at a time in reasonably lumpy conditions but may be persuaded to dial it back a bit and collaborate on a jaunt or two if you are the sort of sidekick that doesn't mind being laughed at I'm hoping this fri might be doable... PM me a phone number or email and ill give you the lowdown.
