  1. Hi Casper Well I bought one at about the same time I bought my new wing (Speedster 2). Decided to get used to that before changing my set up further and then found I really liked it as it is... haven't tried it yet but it is all set up to go on my Bailey V5 - as I'm really only doing XC I'm not sure I'm going to bother now - haha! (If it ain't broke)...
  2. Sadly in Cornwall so not able to get there this evening... by the sounds of it above doesn't look like it's going to be on... another time soon
  3. Did you get to fly Alex? I've recently moved back to London so Barry's is closest to me now. It would be good to meet up with others there. pg
  4. No one can match Sussex Paramotors for service Morgy
  5. Going back to the initial post in this thread I thought I'd give a little shout out to Bailey, in the interests of partiality... I've had a V5s Matrix for two years and love it to pieces. Before that I had a V5 for 3 years. They are great, completely reliable machines with brilliant fuel economy on XC, which is all I do, as I'm not really interested in slalom or chucking it around, so power to weight ratio not really an issue to me. I'm 85kg and 65kg thrust is just fine. I've been following various threads on Fb and here recently and the talk of lines being dead, e-mails not being replied to, and poor service spooked me a little. Worried that the problems people were reporting might be a sign that the company was in trouble, I thought I'd order in some spares just in case (when) I have a heavy landing. Yesterday afternoon at 2pm I e-mailed Bailey Aviation with my request. They replied saying they had the parts at 4pm but by that time I was off out for the evening. So I e-mailed a confirmation of what I wanted this morning at 9.15am and Paul replied at 10. Dylan then called and my order was completed just after lunch. This, I have to say, has always been my experience. Bailey Aviation are a tiny company (there's only 3 of them so it is a little unfair to compare them to the likes of Parajet) and knowing this means I give them much greater latitude when it comes to responding to requests for parts etc. I'm sorry some people have had difficulties but I have never had anything but great service from them.
  6. Hi - has anyone had any experience with the Apco Split-leg harness? Ideally on a BAILEY V5 matrix but I'm interested in hearing what it's like both on ground (greater ease of movement?) and in the air (does it aid weight- shifting?). Interested also in how well the reserve sits to the side as I'm trying to clear out the front so I've got more room for the camera cheers Paul
  7. Ppg here in the U.K. and PG in the Alps where it belongs
  8. Simon's right - runwayhd is really great but yes you have to buy an annual subscription, but to repeat what Simon said it's really great. I think you also need a cellular iPad (or iPhone with 3G connection) to run it in the air (if you want weather) careful when you buy the iPad as they're not all cellular. You pay £100 extra for this. ipad mini is a great size (unfortunately I have a bigger one for work so too big for the leg/reserve dashboard on ppg - Waiting for the ssd microlight to use it in earnest.) the naviter oudie is also great and can be used in conjunction with SeeYou for flight planning, which was originally aimed at the gliding community. Love mine - anti glare screen works well in nearly all conditions. The view is intuitive and you can change things even with fat-gloved fingers. Very reassuring when on a xc - easy to reroute back to takeoff or set waypoints. Barometric altimeter is very accurate and the variometer is good (but you'll need earphones in). Airspace warnings are clear on both Oudie and runwayhd (you have no excuses!). Downside - both expensive. But to repeat what Simon said Runwayhd is really good!
  9. I'd love to know more about the vestals we should stay 500 feet from Simon... vestals as in virgins? Probably very wise... sorry, couldn't resist. Hope to see you all Saturday if I can get my slightly bent frame straight by then
  10. I'm sure they are Gordon. It's just that I'd hate to find out the hard way that they're not. £3 B&Q o rings are worth the peace of mind... Posh?? it's a mini Simon...(man with heli)
  11. ...from an original idea by Paul Martin
  12. Nice film. btw what app do you use to overlay flight info?
  13. Hi you could perhaps buy a wing that serves both ff and ppg…I saw that they have an advance epsilon 7 which is good for both… paul
  14. hi Adrian - not impossible but it may take time - especially in this weather. btw I did my ppg training with Steve - he's great! I have recently been with Carlo et al at Flybubble getting my hill rating on paragliders - they are brilliant too. (so you're in the very best of hands!) all the best paul
  15. Happy Birthday Seymore - sorry not to be able to join you but sitting in boring final exam board this afternoon until late, but hey, then its summer vacation! -have fun. Hope to be out flying again soon... paul
  16. jealous - have a good one paul
  17. Hi Mark I'd be up for that ... pg
  18. Hi Mark My measly 6 hours obviously precludes me from flying but I'd be interested in coming along to watch/help out on the ground - and then get fully involved in the future paul
  19. The removable tow bar hasn't fallen off my mini yet (tow bar says it can take up to 75kg -less than the easybase and motor)... paul
  20. 'Common' is a misleading term - its not referring common ownership. Since the enclosure act and the failure of the Levellers in the 1640's, pretty much all common land is owned by someone and certainly not us Plebs I'd be careful if I were you. Vive la revolution!
  21. Hi - saw your post earlier - 10 miles nw of Southampton would be the New Forest then Afraid because of the National Park bylaws you aren't allowed to legally take off within the Forest itself. And apparently that goes for ground-handling too. In the summer I was doing just that at Stoney Cross (the abandoned wartime airbase) at about 7.00am and was told to stop by a Forest Ranger - I argued that it was a kite as I had no intention or ability to fly but apparently there is a bylaw against kites with a wingspan of greater than 1M. Take off from Stoney Cross is sadly a no-no (legally). Misconception that the New Forest is common land - it's not. There is a landowner (The New Forest National Park Authority) and they won't permit take-offs. Until this May I've lived in the Forest for 11 years and it's one reason why I wanted to take up paramotoring. Fantastic place to fly. My friendly farmer is near Alderholt a mile south of Fordingbridge, just outside boundary and west of the A338. From there it's just a minute or so to the western boundary of the Forest. Lots of ponies as you say but it's ok airspace for us to be in - microlights are often going over on their way south to the IOW. Guess you'd be wise to stay above 1000 feet until right out in the wilds but then still be on the l/o for horses/walkers, etc. Paul
