davidreckitt
Does this rule apply to livestock? I fly over moorland which has sheep, cows(never move!), and some moor ponies. Of course I steer clear but was just wondering if this point of air law applies to these animals? david
pete_b
Depends if you class them as person, vessel, vehicle or structure
stuartasutherland
I make a point of avoiding livestock, especially horses and someone could be riding them. Remember - we need the farmers on our side!
davidreckitt
Oh yes, no worries, I always keep clear anyways Just when flying moorland it's just a matter of directing your route to keep distance. I don't think the actual law applies here but I'll simply assume so anyway. Thanks
gordon_dunn
I'd avoid cattle, as they can be startled and horses are a definite no... Sheep are generally OK, but keep an eye out for them and avoid them in lambing season. Again- keep the farmers on your side
poz
The poster was asking clarification as to a point of law, not an opinion, as obviously you wouldn't want to distress livestock. I don't know the answer to this question, it's an interesting one because by strict definition I guess a sheep is a structure, all be it a biological one. And I know a couple of people that would class them as a vessel and a person....don't ask
pauldeakin
No, livestock is not a person, vessel, vehicle or structure so you would not be breaking Air law, but a livestock owner could still sue if he thought you were bothering or buggering his sheep. AdEves
Yep they definitely don't count under Rule 5.
