    pull cord

quite possibly, thats something I will be looking into doing, although the engine has only done around 25 hours, if it does need cleaning will I have to remove the cylinder? Cheers, Dave.

    pull cord

My pull cord snapped at the weekend while attempting to start my motor, its a solo 210 engine, can anyone tell me what size cord I need and the best place to buy it online? Thanks guys. Dave.
  5. what you have to remember is the design and R&D has all been carried out by the original manufacturer, this is an expensive and time comsuming task, the person making the copies has not had to go through this so is able to copy the wing as all they have to pay for is manufacturing cost, they also dont have to cover the cost of future devleopment, it would be great for us to be able to buy wings and "cheap as chips" prices but this would be a disaster for the sport as it would stunt progress in wing design.

    Tip to Tip 2010.

I would have thought a helicopter would have been the logical vehicle to use for support, as most of the area you will be flying over will be hard to access by land, infact some of it may be so difficult to cross by vehicle you may end up leaving your support vehicles way behind.
  8. as theres no naked chicks option, I will go for the PPG shop
  9. dont watch the film "wolf creek" before you go

  13. what about a Faq for us newbies, I have only recently got into the sport and have found that when it came to purchasing equipment it was a total minefield, I was forever emailing sellers on ebay to ask such things as does it have high or low hang points etc, I did not know a good brand from a rubbish one, it took a lot of searching and questions to members of this forum (thanks francis and co). it would be good to have a listing of the most popular engines, wings etc with some info on each listing things like type of hang points, suitability for newbies etc, plus some sort of pricing guide.
  14. I supposed when you think about it, the unpowered forms of flight are probably closer to their roots than the powered, for instance ballooning? gliding? having said that I think hangliding has moved on considerably
  15. as paragliding uses the exact same method as we do then of course, I was thinking more along the lines of powered flight.
  16. to the originators of powered flight? I am a bit of a aviation history buf, I was just thinking about the wright brothers first powered flights from the sands of kittyhawk, their aircraft they flyer used a method of "wing warping" to control it and that got me thinking, the way we control our wings is not to distant from their method, I witnessed a flight of a replica of their aircraft at an airshow once, it flew for about 100 yards in a reletively straight line, I think the whole crowd must have had their buttock cheeks clenched firmly together for fear of farting and sending the thing spiralling out of control, to say the pilot had control would be extremely generous. so do you think there is any other form of aviation that is as near to its roots as we are?
  17. would not an independent observer suffice?
  18. I think I can add a little to this thread, up until now I have only been ground handling but I have been using a reflex as mentioned above and a genie almost back to back on some occasions, I found the differance between the 2 to be night and day, the genie being a delight to ground handle whereas the reflex took much more effort to get up and "flying" above you under control.
  19. not taken the big leap yet, I am still ground handling, although according to my instructor I am just about ready, I think if the weather had been kinder I may have got airborne by now, I have a motor, PAP 1100 AS and a powerplay sting 160, plus all the other kit, helmet, radio, GPS etc so I am just basicaly waiting for that "window" of oportunity
  20. what you do is find the pic you want to display and upload it to a pic hosting site, something like photobucket, you then cut and paste the link to its location into the "link to off site avatar" bit in your profile.
  21. I just picked up a sting powerplay 160, only 2 hours use with only 25 mins of that actually flying, came with rucksack, stuffsack, manuals and speedbar for just £1000, so sometimes there are some good deals to be had if you duck and dive a little you can find them.
  22. I just got my girlfriend to take my pic in my flying gear and then posted it up
  23. going to pop down westmill and do a bit of ground handling with my new wing
