  1. My first time was with one of said Colons! He checked my equipment, primed me, got me up and brought me back to earth safely... with his unforgettably firm but reassuring voice guiding my every step of the way!
  2. I would have fired up my brown smoke after something like that!
  3. Excellent, thanks Simon and Pete. I know you guys use these units loads with students, so I'll definitely strip and clean my carb. Many cheers Lee
  4. I checked the cap on landing and it was super tight to get off but I could draw air through it... so perhaps not that. I've also been told to check the diaphragm as my unit is getting on for 4-5 years old (I think) so this could have degraded. Does Parajet or anyone else for that matter supply a rebuild kit specifically for these carbs (sorry for my naivety)? At the moment my money is on it being a fuel starvation issue... but I'll attack it from all angles before that third flight. Thanks for your replies gents Oh, and yes the plug is perfect.
  5. Hello all, I went up last night for my second flight. All was going swimmingly until my engine started to fade and die. I was holding the throttle on full power but it literally fades and dies - see video. I do manage to feather the throttle initially to give me a bit of power and then (after it dies) it does re-start, but then fades again. After I landed the engine started on the ground without issue and ran up and down the rev range without hesitation!?!? The engine is a Parajet Volution Macro 1. My suspicion is that there was a vacuum being formed in the tank as the cap was extremely tight to remove after I landed. Has anyone else had anything similar happen using a first generation Macro? And, using any clues within my shonky footage, can anyone else please give me pointers of how to work out what's up with my engine (from the way it fades)? [youtubevideo] [/youtubevideo]http://youtu.be/fPXNYK8ZnDg Many thanks Lee
  6. I was there and I cut the grass! Loved being there, I'll be back for the whole weekend next year!
  7. Ahh I see... we're the clowns who run 100m, fall over and then put our wings through the blender! I'll wear my L plates!
  8. Will newly trained ppg folk be welcome and able to fly (weather permitting)? I've twisted the arm of my wife and may be able to come along to this now.
  9. Thanks to everyone who has replied - you've put my mind to rest... I thought I was missing something a bit daft. I did end up getting it right (ney better) by going back about three holes but, as Trickyh says, I didn't know how to account for the thrust of the prop. I don't want my first flight to be a baptism of fire!!!
  10. I wonder if someone can help me? I have a Parajet macro and when I do a hang test I seem to end up like a human blender rather than a paramotorist (i.e. my props end up pointing down). I am using the correct hang point according to my weight and so I’m a tad confused. Here’s what I mean: I weigh 14stone which is about 88Kg so I definitely should be in the hole marked 75Kg – 90Kg but yet I end up looking like I’m going to bed!!! To correct the problem in the hang test I end up using the hole for (55Kg – 65Kg)… which just can’t be right, and may even be dangerous for flying. Can anyone suggest what is wrong or have any of you (with Macro’s) experienced anything like this? Many thanks ahead of time for any suggestions or assistance received. Lee
  11. Hmmm... now I'm concerned that mine is vastly too big for me!?!?!
  12. Hi kwgkwg I weigh 89Kg and have also bought an ITV boxer... a lovely wing by the way. I have the XL size option as I figure that my parajet is about 30KG and fuel and clothes are going to add another 15Kg or so (reserve to be added later). I understand that the XL wing has a minimum in flight weight of 110Kg and a max of 150Kg (max extended is 180Kg) so I think this wing should be perfect for me and my kit. I've not flown the wing yet, but have been ground handling it loads. Its big, but should be a stable (slightly docile first wing). We're about the same weight but I'm not confident that medium would be as safe for a beginner. My instructor was very keen for me to have a large safe wing that was forgiving. I'm pretty sure you could exchange the wing if it’s never been flown anyway! Best of luck with it Lee
  13. What a first class muppet... sorry about that. I was obviously having one of my senior moments! The radio I was asking about was this bad boy: http://www.flightstore.co.uk/pilot-supp ... -pack-p713 Tis an airband radio, which I understand is most suited for air-air/air/ground comms? Up to now I've been using a Midland G7... so I need to up my game. Many thanks in advance
  14. Please forgive the daft question... but do we think this radio is suitable for paramotor use (I'm pretty sure it is)? If I purchase it'll be used with the usual Microavionics headset. Many thanks Lee
  15. I have the new Sony Action Camera (HDR-AS15) and I absolutely love it! That said, I haven't had a chance to fly with it and I've never had a different POV camera so can't give an objective apprasal. It was only just released the other week. My kids took it to the swimming pool at the weekend for a Birthday party and it was filming in, out and under the water with amazing clarity, perfect sound whilst getting knocked about. I also set it up and control it via wifi on my iphone which is real snazzy. You can instantly download the films to your phone, computer etc by wifi too. I think its a really great bit of kit... I'll happily recommend it although I think the wifi version is the one to go for. Lee
  16. Note - Wet and solid edges can be particularly troublesome!
  17. Forgive the daft question... Using a full size wing, what is the upper limit of wind speed/gusting us trainees should be aware of when ground handling? (i.e. 15mph wind gusting to 20mph is just about OK but anything above is too dangerous - guessing here).
  18. Was it a funky moped You might be too young to appreciate Sounds like an adventure Cheers, Alan Not too young It was good, and I'd never seen the Scottish highlands before, so I was suitable impressed. Was the JOG-LE anything to do with the Vzi trip? Sorry don't mean to hijack!
  19. Isn't that Cromer? The brown sea is the giveaway!
  20. My theory is that if I had proceeded with the sale I would have received an 'emailed payment instruction' from a fictitious paypal page. If I had then logged on to my account via that page I would have divulged my paypal account info and given this muppet full access. The wing would never have been collected but I would have seen my bank account take a hit! Such a shame that there are these clowns out there. I can see he is based in India. So if anyone else wants a Nuc Wing 31 as a gift for their father I have one going for 5 bottle tops!
  21. I'm selling a nuc wing and I've been contacted by a scammer. I thought I'd share this so everyone else can see the format... and nobody else lets this @#£% get their hard earnt coin. Just in case you're wondering I've not proceeded with the sale to Brian: I really appreciate your respond,I am a marine engineer and am currently at sea at the moment, due to my occupation as a marine engineer at this moment i am presently working offshore, sometimes access to regular emails and phone calls are very poor in offshore due to inefficiency of the immarsat service, I located in pacific WA, and i want you to know that am okay with the Nucleon 31 Wing status and also the conditions of the Nucleon 31 Wing and the asking price as well, I am buying the Nucleon 31 Wing as a gift for my Dad as a surprise for him,he wont know anything about the Nucleon 31 Wing until they get delivered to him, i can only pay through PayPal as i don't have access to my bank account on-line as i don't have internet banking, but i have my bank account attached to my PayPal account and this is why i insisted on paying you through PayPal, kindly get back to me with your PayPal details if you don't have PayPal account yet,it is very easy to set up at your bank and get it set up,after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address you use for registration with PayPal so as to put the money through so i can proceed with the payment and after the payment has been done, i have a pick up agent that will come around for verifications and to pick the Nucleon 31 Wing after i have made the payments for the Nucleon 31 Wing.So I will need you to provide me with the following information to facilitate the making of the payment. 1.Your PayPal full name. 2.Your PayPal Email Address. 3..Your phone number. 22. Hi Guys, Thank you very much for your kind responses. I now see that there is a mountains of reading out there and so I've been getting myself up to speed. Can I ask if there is a realistic budget I should be looking to spend to get me up in the air (specifically all the kit inc radio, altimeter, wing, motor basic clothing, helmet etc)? Is it wiser to start with second hand kit as once experienced I guess you need to upgrade the kit beyond novice spec. Is there a better time of year to learn? My guess here is winter as the cold mornings are obviously still vs the bumpy summers. Really appreciate your feedback and yes I really hope I can join you aloft sometime in the future Lee (Reaction) Jackson
